The Rough Guide to Chick Flicks is an essential guide to the movies that women love to watch. Taking a female perspective this book covers everything, from the history of cinema and the different films made around the world, to the stars, the directors and the people behind the scenes of this increasingly popular movie genre. The guide includes details on costume design and has a unique chapter on the chick lit/chick flick crossover. Written by a film scholar, this book leaves no stone unturned with an exciting mix of old favourites from Bridget and Bette Davis to some surprising choices - thrillers, warrior movies and even the odd western. With hundreds of film reviews, this guide opens up a whole new world of interesting and fun films that women will love to watch.
This is an excellent book. It's well written and researched, witty and great fun to read. The pictures are great, and I particularly loved all the entertaining film gossip, (eg George Clooney auditioning for the part of J.D. in Thelma and Louise, a part that famously went to the young Brad Pitt). The main section of 50 film reviews makes excellent reading, but I also really enjoyed the chapter on Icons, which looks at Chick Flick legends, both in front of, and behind the camera. The book celebrates the "complex, brave, brilliant and funny women" in film, but is a must-have book for anyone interested in films. Sit back, and enjoy, then debate the top ten Chick Flicks among your friend
