Rarely has a novel proven to be both nearly incomprehensible and entertaining at the same time. Loyalty and the Bed You Lie In by T.R. Nairn manages to do just that. Shay, who at first glance seems to be an aspiring clothing designer, introduces us to other main characters of the book: Diamond, Meko and Rae.

Diamond, Shay’s older sister, is the leader of her gang of drug dealer/robbery set-up women. Shay, in the beginning of the story, seems to be outside the chaos of Diamond’s, Meko’s, and Rae’s but longing to get inside. Suddenly, at some undefined point Shay became a gun-toting, man shooting target for revenge by people who have been offended by Diamond’s activities. That’s all well and good except there’s no real explanation for this transformation. Naturally, there is a great romance in the novel. Diamond finds her soul mate in the drug trade, T.O., who is running his father’s drug business while he’s in jail. Soon enough the two of them are living together with each running their own crime operations. Both have developed enemies who are looking for ways to take them down.

Nairn has provided us with a solidly entertaining read using the standard urban novel formula: love, betrayal, drugs, and jealousy to the point of insanity. I’m not convinced this is the best formula for nearly every single novel targeting the urban market but Nairn almost makes it work. The biggest drawbacks are sloppy editing and overuse of pronouns that lead to a certain amount of confusion as to who is doing what sometimes. A good editor would help with these flaws.

Nairn’s novel, although not original, is entertaining if somewhat confusing at times. Since the end is the set-up for a sequel, I won’t be spoiling anything by saying things are hot for Diamond at the end of the story. Hopefully, Nairn can tighten up the editing enough to make the story easier to follow next time around. I look forward to seeing how Diamond and her clan deal with the challenges at hand.

What did you like about the book?
An entertaining, fast-paced read.

What did you dislike about the book?
This story tends to jump around and there’s sometimes no lead up to certain characters’ behavior.

What could the author do to improve the book?
Overuse of pronouns, occasional misuse of words, and poor sentence structure make the story hard to follow at times and distract the reader.

This was an awesome read. It had everything, humor, sex, action, murder and betrayal.
There is already a summary of what it's about; so I won't say it again. But this is a must read. It will keep your attention page after page. I also like a lot of dialogue. This one has it, I hate page after page of self musing. I like to feel like I'm a part of the book. And T R made me think I was sitting around listening to my girlfriends (not that any of them were this crazy).I read the entire book in one day.

I loved reading something where the women didn't sit around waiting for their man to bring them money so they can go shopping or get their hair done. Yeah what they did was illegal but illegal or not it takes a mind to become wealthy selling drugs. Anyone can be a corner boy/girl.

Aunt Sharon was a trip and I love it when these young folks have to be school by the old heads.
Many a groups have been torn apart by jealousy and envy. You’re going to have to read this one to see if childhood friends can make it out alive and their friendship intact. Trust me you will be like the rest of us after reading. Sitting around waiting like a reader crackhead waiting for T R to give us the next installment. The cliff hanger at the end almost made me throw my Kindle. I kept press the next page button like, "Come on, it can't end like this. My download must have malfunctioned".

Pick up a copy you won't be disappointed.

First book I read from this author
Very good book
There's has to be a part two...

Author T R Nairn has done an excellent job in writing this book. I love the title LOYALTY AND THE BED YOU LIE IN.
Diamond and her friends have been together since child hood and have a very strong bond. Diamond, Meko and Rae have a good relationship that includes trust and loyalty of which holds these girls together. This book has it all murder, betrayal, drugs and sex.

If you love urban street , you will love this book. It's an easy read...a book that keeps you reading waiting to see what's going to happen next. The ending surprised me , I was expecting a different turn out. I hope there will be a part 2.

I would highly recommend this book. You wont be disappointed

After thinking about it the book wasn't completely horrible. The story just developed too slow for my liking. Just as the storyline began to develop, the story ended. I don't think I'll be reading part two. In my opinion, the author could've done a better job developing the characters and getting to the point of the story faster. The book really didn't become "enjoyable" for me until I was about 82% complete.

The author did a great jod on this urban tale. My favorite character is Auntie Sharon because she didn't play. The storyline was very well thought out and I can't wait for part 2.

The book was all over the place. The author didn't establish a plot until the end of the story.
