The author of over 80 books in a little over a decade of writing, Dan Gutman has written on topics from computers to baseball. Beginning his freelance career as a nonfiction author dealing mostly with sports for adults and young readers, Gutman has concentrated on juvenile fiction since 1995. His most popular titles include the time-travel sports book Honus and Me and its sequels, and a clutch of baseball books, including The Green Monster from Left Field. From hopeful and very youthful presidential candidates to stunt men, nothing is off limits in Gutman's fertile imagination. As he noted on his author Web site, since writing his first novel, They Came from Centerfield, in 1994, he has been hooked on fiction. "It was fun to write, kids loved it, and I discovered how incredibly rewarding it is to take a blank page and turn it into a WORLD."

Gutman was born in New York City in 1955, but moved to Newark, New Jersey the following year and spent his youth there.

I love this series for second graders. Great for reluctant readers, too. Mr. Docker is the science teacher who uses potatoes for batteries. Students will learn a few things about science as they enjoy the humor of students at Ella Mentry School.

Oldest loves these books. He's fast burning through the series. I need to find another one like it as it's hard to find anything that Oldest likes to read besides comic books (Garfield and the like).

Good! The spudmobile was a definite hit. This does a good job explaining scientific method, especially when the young reader has just learned that in school.

Mr. Docker is off his Rocker by Dan guttman is a humorous book on a kid named A.J who goes to Ella Mentry School and has a new science teacher that is retired and now works there. He makes the kids use their brains to ask questions, and do weird experiments that result in Mr. Docker's hair catching on fire and Mr. Docker building a potato clock and a potato car? And while A.J Is having fun on vacation to the beach, he goes to school on Monday and has to make a fake excuse about him forgetting to feed his fish prior to his vacation and the fish supposudly ends up dying. I reccomend this book to anyone who likes science and likes humor, I give this book a 5/5 because there were funny parts and a plot

A.J. and his classmates meet their new science teacher, Mr. Docker. who teaches them all about the scientific method, and how to use it when doing experiments. Mr. Docker, who likes potatoes makes a potato powered car, that really works and calls it the spud mobile, this changes A.J. outlook that science is only for nerds. Andrea reveals to the entire class what A.J. stands for as this adventure comes to an end at Ella Mentry School.

There are some weird teachers at Ella Mentry School, but Mr. Docker is the strangest science teacher ever!

A fun and silly story of an old teacher who teaches with unconventional ways and absolutely loves science. Maybe a little too much! My six and a half year old son has been loving this series.

AJ may hate school, but he surely finds science to be entertaining consistently throughout this book. In real life, that's not a given. Science isn't always a place to satisfy the young curious mind, and science resources never seem to answer "why" questions. Kudos to Gutman for giving us a vision of what a good science teacher should be like- potato powered car aside.

Mr. Docker is the new science teacher and he's a little crazy. Among other things, he's a little obsessed with potatoes. Honestly, same.

As always with this series, the antics were weird and cute. I always love how quick and enjoyable they are to read.

The book is very funny and it has potatoes, very funny characters and there are stink bombs!
It reminded me of my own experiments like the time I made ice disappear in water.
