Reality Check

Rate this book
Since the publication of Royally Jacked, Niki has received a lot of mail asking for a story about Valerie's best friend (and Ho-Ho addict) Jules Jackson. In response, Niki wrote this short story as a bonus for her readers.

* * *
Jules Jackson, Valerie Winslow's sarcastic, combat boot-wearing friend from the books Royally Jacked, Spin Control, and Do-Over, is interested in a guy. Is the world coming to an end? Does Miss Independence really want to be part of a twosome? And...will the target of Jules' obsession turn out to be a prince or a toad?

NOTE FROM NICOLE: My Goodreads library is by no means comprehensive. I have thousands of books on my real (as opposed to my Goodreads) bookshelves. However, my Goodreads library only contains those books I'd give four or five stars and would recommend to friends without hesitation (and I haven't even gotten around to listing all those yet!)

Clearly I'm really into short stories at the moment, I just find them easier to read as I haven't got a lot of time recently that I can dedicate to reading so it's nice to be able to just take 15 minutes and complete a book.

This is a spin-off from Niki's 'Valerie Winslow' trilogy which I haven't read but will definitely be doing now since I enjoyed the characters in this story so much.

This bonus story does include spoilers to the series I believe, but I didn't realise it was a spin-off of a series when I started the book so that's my bad; but I still want to read the series anyway.

It is told through emails between a group of friends which is a format I really enjoy reading in, and there were some plot twists that I didn't see coming. It was amusing and I liked how each character clearly had a different 'role' within their friendship group.

When Niki Burnham’s royal trilogy ended, Val was happily reunited with Prince Georg, Christie and her boyfriend Jeremy were past their rough patch and going strong, and Nat had just had a killer first date with PFLAG John at the annual Oscar party. And Jules? Well Jules was still her independence-minded, boyfriend-free-and-loving-it self. But the love bug is about to dig its teeth into Jules, right through her ass-kicking combat boots. Told completely in e-mails, Reality Check is a short story revealing exactly how crazy love can make the indomitable Jules Jackson.

A oneshot story relating to Royally Crushed series of Niki Burnham. It is formed as email correspondence between Valerie and her (A-list) friends.

Jules is an independent girl who became infatuated to someone. The only problem is that she is not sure whether the guy is a prince or a toad.

This is so short. I want mooooooooooore about them.

this book was honestly very good. i got it on my nook and it was free. i liked how it was written in the form of emails. although it only had about 32 pages it was good for a free book. if you can just get it. i promise you it was worth the time reading. before/after reading this book though make sure you pick up royally crushed that includes the books this short novella was for. i can honestly say i loved it.

Well, I don't know how I ended up reading this... I never really read Royally Crushed so all of these characters are new to me. Since it's really short, I'm not sure how to judge it so I'm settling with 2 stars for "it was okay".
