I read this back in about 2013, when I was in 9th grade and seriously hyperfixating on historical figures like Nikola Tesla and Mary Shelley - at the time, it was really fun for reading fictional depictions of these characters, and was special to me for that purpose.
I will say, it unfortunately dragged on a bit at times, as I remember there being extremely long scenes dedicated to infodumps and exposition, and I don’t recall if its representations of women and marginalised groups would have held up to my standards today. But it was cool as one of my first introductions to horror literature, and to give it a proper review, I’d probably have to read it again.
That said, I’m adding it to my goodreads to have a full and accurate record of what I’ve read in the past few years
I really enjoyed this book, the story stayed interesting from beginning until the end. There are so many books that have chapters or pages that make me want to just try to read through it or give up because there is nothing entertaining about it. This book Modern Marvels is not like that, the characters are great and they are from history which makes them more enjoyable. I could tell by reading this book that the author enjoyed some of the same movies that I have enjoyed. This book is a hard one to put down but when you do you won’t have a problem picking it back up again.
