About the author

Edwin Nicholas Arnold was a herpetologist. He was the Curator of Herpetology at the Natural History Museum in London. He made seminal contributions to the herpetology of Europe and North Africa, especially on geckos and lizards of the family Lacertidae. He discovered and described 36 species and 4 subspecies of reptiles, and wrote A Field Guide to the Reptiles and Amphibians of Britain and Europe, which appeared over multiple editions.

This small (A5 approx) hardback book has 128 pages full of excellent colour illustrations and black and white drawings including some track and dropping identification charts.

It covers all manner of animals encountered in Britain and Europe including rodents, insectivores, bats, carnivores, ungulates(hoofed), bovidae, horses, amphibians, tortoises, snakes and lizards.

There is a useful index at the back of the book giving both common and scientific names so you can quickly find things.

This is a nice little book that fits in your pocket and enhances any wildlife watchers day out!
