Tink vows to get rid of the cannonball and get back at Captain Hook. It's a lot for a five-inch fairy to take on, but if anyone can do it, it's Tinker Bell. The only trouble is, none of her ideas are working. Tink lovers a challenge, but is this one problem even she can't solve?

3.5 stars I read one of the books in this series early last year out of mild curiosity. It was better than expected, so I read another, and another. Then, as much for the book hunting challenge, I decided to see if I could track down and read all of them. The whole series is out of print. I learned how to use interlibrary loan in the process. This is the last one I needed to read to complete the series. (Well, technically there is one more, Iridessa and the Secret of the Never Mine by Nnedi Okorafor, but it was only available in English as a print edition published only in Australia. The only accessible copy I’ve found is in the National Archives of Australia, and flying to the other side of the world to read it seems…excessive.)

As for Tinker Bell Takes Charge, it’s a rare book in the series, but I found a reasonably priced secondhand UK edition on-line (ISBN 0-00-721403-0). It’s a bit disappointing in that it is missing the illustrations—there’s one at the beginning, but it’s in black and white. A big part of the charm of this series are the pretty illustrations. After I bought this edition I discovered it’s also in an omnibus, Tinker Bell: Two Pirate Tales. I found two other otherwise unavailable books in this series in similar omnibus editions, with illustrations in color, so that edition likely has the illustrations. Si I’d recommend seeking that edition.

The story is a good one about problem solving and overcoming setbacks. One of Captain Hook’s cannonballs lands in the fairies’ courtyard, and Tink has to figure out how to remove it. It’s too heavy to lift. And then a second cannonball destroys Tink’s room in the tree. Tink doesn’t complain to her friends about this; she does ask one friend to make a replacement for what she lost, and others volunteer help because that’s their community, and part of the charm of the series. And the help isn’t always perfect, but it is well-intended and Tink is graceful in her response.

As for removing the cannonball, Tink’s first few ideas fail, but she keeps trying. I see the concept of overcoming failure in business/leadership books for adults all the time, so it’s nice to see it play out in a book for kids as it’s a key life lesson.

buku ini tntg Tink yg ngerasa bosen karna tugas" remeh kyk nembel sendok/panci menurutnya gak menantang. trs tiba" ada peluru meriam punya Kapten Hook yg ngancurin kamarnya dan separuh halaman pixie hollow. nah loh, sekarang Tink harus muter otak cara nyingkirin bola besi raksasa itu (dan ngebales Kapten Hook! hehe).

kangen bgtttt sama buku ini (Tinker Bell Takes Charge, khususnya). pas kecil punya bukunya trus ilang, belasan tahun baru baca lagi. agak bingungin pembagian seriesnya, karna dari fisik sama persis. ngutip dari #goodreads , daftarnya :

A cannonball falls in the middle of Pixie Hollow...and guess who is in charge to get rid of it? Yes, Tinker Bell! as if she doesn't have enough trouble because her room is completely ruined by the cannonball, she also has to think about how to get rid of it when the other fairies dont seem to care much about it. In the end, the solution to this problem is quite ridiculous that I'm amazed the fairies cannot figure it out sooner.
