So I am currently researching magic systems for something I am working on, and I hoped some good, old-fashioned '80s-'90s sourcebook on all things magic, with options, rules for non-formulaic magic etc. might be of help. However, I have realized that GURPS, especially the earlier versions, is its own ecosystem mechanically, and most things do not play along nice outside of it.
I got MAYBE a couple of useful abstract ideas but absolutely zero on mechanics. That said, it is obviously not a bad book (and I am a sucker for such relics of the past), but its practical usefulness was limited.
