The Amazing Conroy #7

Buffalito Contingency

Rate this book
Publishers Weekly: "Fans of old-fashioned SF will love this fast-paced, chaotic, and good-natured adventure full of semi-farcical humor and pleasantly believable aliens." Conroy has left Earth far behind and taken his hypnosis act beyond Human Space. It should be show business as usual, except for the energy being the size of a hundred suns that wants to study him, a plot to smuggle liquid gravity, a troupe of alien sex wrestlers, a hypnotized ghost, and Reggie his buffalito stuck in a saurian toilet... BUFFALITO CONTINGENCY is the exciting sequel to the popular BUFFALITO DESTINY.

Lawrence M. Schoen holds a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology, is a past Astounding, Hugo, and Nebula, nominee, twice won the Cóyotl award for best novel, founded the Klingon Language Institute, and occasionally does work as a hypnotherapist specializing in authors’ issues. He is a chimeric cancer survivor.

His science fiction includes many light and humorous adventures of a space-faring stage hypnotist and his alien animal companion. The Amazing Conroy returns for another adventure. Set sometime after Trial of the Century, Conroy finds himself in a series of troubles that steady smash into each other to form one giant mess until the end, when we're left scraping each piece of this mess into the trash can... and then running away as fast as you can. I'm ... not sure where I was going with that metaphor, but in short, Conroy is a really fun character to follow, and I enjoy watching him get deep into trouble and somehow claw his way back out of it. This is the last of the currently published Amazing Conroy stories, so I hope that Schoen continues the journey. The new characters and twists introduced here were really fun.

All the elements were there, and the new characters were all fun. The overall plot is moving forward, though the coincidences sometimes got a bit out of hand!

The Amazing Conroy and his Buffalito dog, Reggie are off on another adventure! They've gone far beyond the normal sphere of human travel and are on a ship crewed by saurian type creatures. Not the best of company, seeing as they hate dealing with alien beings, but they do like taking their money to ferry them about. The first big problem is that the room was built for these creatures and Reggie, being curious and probably thirsty, has taken an accidental dip in the toilet. Can Conroy save him and go on to other adventures or will it all stop here? Grab a copy and find out quick, because this show is going on the road at Warp Speed!

A first rate romp

This a light airy entertainment. A whole delightful universe with diverse aliens. It reminds me is Shakespeare's comedies. The hero, a talented rogue with a really neat pet overcomes impossible odds, earns the eternal hatred of two species, a spaceship and gets closer to the girl.

A charming romp with Lawrence Schoen's Amazing Conroy, one of those delightful fictional characters I always enjoy coming back to. Looking forward to more of these stories.
