Peggy's Genre is COZY MYSTERIES. She's the author of 19 books: 17 mysteries in the Samantha Jamison Series, one memoir - The Riviera Is Burning, and one contemporary romance - Caché, Caché. She loves writing, both non-fiction and fiction, and revealing the truth—or her version of it. (And yes, many incidents in her books did happen—she’s just not admitting which ones! ...chuckle) #18 COMING DEC. 1

After raising her family, Peggy published her first mystery novel, The Puzzle. The setting was based on her log home in Highlands, North Carolina, where she sat on the back porch and plotted, wondering how a young widow would react after the mysterious, unsolved death of her husband. Would she ignore what she was being told, or pursue it on her own? Peggy soon discovered she loved writing mysteries from the first-person point of view, and the Samantha Jamison series was born.

Peggy has traveled the world, from Europe to Asia, even at one point owning a villa on the French Riviera, which played well into two of her books: her memoir, The Riviera Is Burning, and book three of her Samantha Jamison mystery series, 86 Avenue du Goulet. She resides in Florida.

Far far too many chapters, too many places where the story jumped and I felt confused. Glad I didn't pay for it.

In this roller coaster ride of a novel, Samantha has sought the tranquility of Ocean City to work on writing her next book when unexpectedly receives a call from her estranged friend Mona who happens to be outside her rental property. This unexpected guest came with a world of trouble and mystery. A hidden disk needs to be found and friends, the FBI, and the mafia are all interested in its retrieval, but Samantha is seemingly oblivious to its location. The story takes us along as readers can flesh out who is friend and foe and solve the puzzle along with Samantha. The central mystery is bizarre and complicated, involving a criminal conspiracy, FBI involvement, and intertwining pasts.

The author writes in an engaging way but has a penchant for including too many characters. The plot gets muddled as each sub-characters has something going on within the story that slows the book’s pace. Although most aspects of the plot are compelling, it was a bit hard to keep track of the characters and solve who was adept at espionage. The novel feels as if it doesn’t know if it wants to be a spy novel, a character-driven story, a mystery, or something else entirely.

Without Any Warning will interest those who enjoy mysteries or even spy novels. It will also draw those who love following the clues. Readers expecting a pleasant path of reading will find themselves trapped as they wait for the book to become exceptional. When the intrigue kicks in, the plot is revealed and the mystery is solved.

It was a silly thing to do but I got my first introduction to Peggy Edelheit's series of mystery novels by reading her last novel first. No matter because I enjoyed it so much that I decided to read more, starting with her first novel, 'The Puzzle'
.
'Without Any Warning' is the second in the series and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all three. As a writer myself I have to say how I admire the way this author tackles what I perceive to be a difficult genre. As in all intriguing mysteries, the reader is constantly being thrown red herrings and just when you think you've solved the crime, Ms Edelheit leads you off in a another direction. I didn't see the end of this one coming until the very last page.

I love the way each of these books is written as though the main character (Samantha Jamison) happens to be an author herself and every crime she solves ends up as a novel. How quirky is that?

I'm not going to give any spoilers because Ms Edelheit does it so much better than I could.

Another worthy Five Stars for 'WITHOUT WARNING'.

Peggy Edelheit follows up on the life of Samantha Jamison after the mystery that surrounded the death of her husband. Without Any Warning has Sam hiding away on the east coast trying to make her editor happy and completing her next book on time, but her writer’s block is being persistent. Excited when her long-lost friend, Mona, finds her; Peggy realizes Mona brought more than material for her to write about, but danger. The unknown around Stephen is still surfacing.

I love how Peggy Edelheit writes about another author and the struggles she has with her plots, timeline, and characters. Without Any Warning sets Samantha apart as not only a well-known author but as a sleuth. The elder ladies that help her in her cases add a zest of personalities and humor. And Clay’s appearance is always a welcome in her books, though I wish there was more commitment to their relationship, but that adds mystique. This is one of my favorite authors. I love how her short chapters end in suspense begging for more.

Another amazing Samantha Jamison novel

Without Any Warning is the second book of Peggy Edelheits, Samantha Jamison series. While the books all relate to each other, each book can easily be a stand alone book in itself because Edelheit does a wonderful job of filling the reader in on the situation when a previous mystery is referenced. In Without Any Warning, we follow writer Samantha Jamison (Sam) as she rents a beach house to write another novel in peace away from the craziness of her life. Well her crazy life follows her and it doesn’t take long for Sam to find herself in throws of another mystery with the help of her unlikely crew of helpers. True to for this book is full of chaos, humor, mystery, suspense and page turning fun. Every time I start a Samantha Jamison novel I can’t put it down until the last page because I have to know what’s going on!

What draws me to these books in part is the setting. The ones I have read have all had picturesque settings, up in the mountains,or as with this one a beach location. What a lovely place for our heroine to write - or is it? It's not long after a friend from her past looks her up that strange things begin to happen. Are they all coincidences or something more sinister?

I've read three books in this series starting back to front. The first one I read was the author's most recent publication, but then I started at the beginning with the first in the series, The Puzzle. It is a great series of mysteries, each story standing alone with a different mystery for Samantha Jamison to solve, ably aided by her trusty trio of feisty elderly ladies. Very well written and plotted, I could never manage anything so intriguing myself, neither could I work out 'Who done it?' A big surprise at the end.

Sam is back in a new and exciting mystery

Samantha Jamison is a very talented and exciting writer who always seems to find her way into some kind of trouble and that trouble is usually the basis of her books. Her life is just crazy enough that it makes for great reading. Her current adventure involves Mona, a long time friend who comes back to ask Sam for help after being dumped by the fiance. As the story develops Sam begins to question the secretive phone calls and habits of Mona. This is a great second book in this series and Samantha is ready to take you on a fun, exciting journey through another crazy adventure in her life. The characters are fun and relateable and the story is easy to follow and pulls you in quickly. I recommend this one to all of the fans of mystery and adventure.

Writer, Samantha Jamison, is desperately trying to find some peace and quiet in order to concentrate on rewrites and edits on her latest work. Ah, but the distractions are a bit overwhelming and only become more when she receives a phone call from a friend who had gone missing years before, Mona. Unable to get answers about Mona's mysterious disappearance, Sam agrees to allow her old friend to stay at her beach hideaway only to have her attempted quiet totally turned up-side-down! Ms. Edelheit knows how to keep the reader on edge with suspense and mystery in all her books, and you will not be disappointed while reading Without Any Warning--face paced, edge of your seat mystery that will keep you guessing to the very end! 5 STARS!

Without Any Warning is the second in the series from author Peggy Edelheit. I love these books because they are light mysteries - still having the suspense and intrigue but with funny moments and humorous characters and situations. The main character Samantha wants to getaway to a quiet beach retreat so she can focus on her writing. The quiet is all but that, as a parade of people end of joining her, and some rather mysteriously. This is another quick and entertaining read by Edelheit. It can be read as a standalone if you hadn't read the first, but the reader would have a bit more understanding if they read the books in sequential order. This is a great start to a great mystery series that is quite enjoyable!

Without any Warning is the second book of the series, written by Peggy Edelheit. The novel continues the story of Samantha Jamison, now renting a house at New Jersey's beach, in order to focus, relax, and continue writing under an alias, since she doesn´t want her past to reach her again.

Everything will change when a former college friend and a bunch of people find her, looking for a mysterious disc with critical information, even though she doesn´t have it, Sam will have to find it to ensure her safety and to return to her life.

Personally, I really enjoyed the writing and the characters in this novel, funny and serious at the same time.

Mystery in genre, this novel seeks to, actually, untangle the mystery surrounding the death of the main character’s husband.
It’s the second book of 12; it is as good as the first one, so one can guess the entire series is supposed to be promising and this is one thing that encourages readers to give it a try.
Every detail was well-thought in this book. Its pace is on point, the tone is far from being boring, the characters are relatable and reliable and their personalities are interesting to delve into, the events are masterfully linked together and imagination is awakened line after line. What a great piece of literature!

A second book that keeps the essence

“Without Any Warnings” is the second book of the Samantha Jamison Mystery Series written by Peggy Edelheit.

This mystery keeps the essence portrayed in the first book of the series. In this title, readers get to know more about the main character’s past, again slowly discovering aspects of her life that are quite unexpected.

The main character is lively and contagious, I had a good laugh while I was reading her dialogues and I could create a better picture of her in my head.

I still find the reader quite long, I am sure there are unnecessary descriptions that could be cut down.

I give four stars to this book because I was entertained.

"Without any Warning" is the second book in the Samantha Jamison Mystery series and let me say that so far it is one of my favorites.
This book reminded me since the very first pages why I love and choose science fiction. In a matter of a few chapters, the author, who is in my opinion more than talented, manages to build a fantasy and intriguing world full of suspense that kept me very engaged.
The protagonist of the story, Sam, gets caught up in a chaos that involved the Mafia, the police and very dangerous secrets. Will she be able to solve the riddle on the cd and save her life? Everything is too enigmatic, I felt trapped in the pages.
Highly recommended masterpiece!

“Without Any Warning” the backdrop of sun, sand and sea to lure you into a tangled web. Samantha is recovering from a deeply emotional upheaval in her life and is easing into her writing when an old girlfriend - Mona – pops back into her life. Mona brings craziness, deceit and danger to Samantha’s way as a new neighbour and an old friend add more curiosity to the mix.
The mystery was not as deep as it could and probably paralleled Samantha’s attempt at writing a new story. This was a pleasant and light read for me.

A good read!
As the title correctly suggests Samantha Jaminson, gets on the adventure without any warning. Someone wherever she goes trouble seems to follow her in some way or another, and his time it comes in the form of her old college friend Mona who suddenly appears after some time to ask for help. Mona’s and her phone calls are suspicious and here goes the roller coaster ride of adventure, mystery and fun. Yet another interesting ride with Samantha! Hope next one is better though.

Ocean City was supposed to provide Samantha with a time and place to write her next book.

Instead, her friends from the Highlands begin turning up to stay at the beach to protect her. They turn it into a nerve-racking life with plenty of new characters for Samantha to write into her next book.

Another fun read with the mystery unfolding as Samantha writes her book. The characters Martha, Betty, and Hazel are seniors with great verve for life and are simply fun in their antics. The cast of new characters is diverse and I enjoyed how they all keep coming in and out of Samantha's daily life.

This is my 3rd book by this author that I have read and she doesn't disappoint. She throws in quirky humor along with with suspense that keeps the reader captivated. This book could possibly be read as stand alone but I would recommend reading the first book for a better understanding of the trials that Samantha has just went through. It definitely helps to put in perspective why it immediately put her on high alert once she realized that "Joey" thinks she may have disc that Mona sent to her late husband.

The characters are lively and lovable with a steady story pace. The only thing I didn't like was that Sam's fraudulent credit card charges were never really addressed and I think that realistically mystery or no that would be something I addressed with my friend. Once again, the author surprises you with an unexpected ending. I had convinced myself that David was really Clay in disguise so I was disappointed that I was wrong! I kept trying to figure out where is the puzzle and who is Joey? It is a mystery that will keep you guessing to the very end. Overall, good read for anyone who loves a cozy mystery filled with suspense and humor.

I was fortunate enough to have this on my iPhone and was able to jump right in as soon as I finished The Puzzle. I couldn’t wait to find out what adventures awaited Samantha Jamison after unraveling secrets she’d never expected. This edition starts out with Samantha retreating to Ocean City, NJ to reflect on what her future now holds and work on a new novel. Things seem to be going well until a phone call changes everything.

A friend from the past who has been missing for years is in the parking lot and hoping Samantha will take her in for a few weeks. Unable to deny her curiosity, Samantha welcomes Mona into her vacation home and the excitement begins.

I have to tell you I flew through this book. Each time Samantha answered the doorbell I didn’t know who would show up next. I think this book was stronger in many ways than The Puzzle, and I can’t wait to continue reading the series.

Sam is back again after having written her adventures in her book The Puzzle. Now she is in Ocean City, New Jersey, to take a break and start her new book. .
Unfortunately she finds herself being host at first, to two "characters"..One is her old college friend, Mona, whose arrival spells trouble. The other is Martha, her elderly and eccentric friend in adventure.
Obviously thinking about these two, she quotes, "Women are an intriguing breed,. They tread where they shouldn't , are intrigued by situations and any after effects that might spontaneously happen."
Things get complicated living with these two and then add a few more interested lady friends from the Highlands and the fun begins. Although Sam loses her privacy due to them, she ends up getting new ideas for her new book.
Easy reading, humorous, with a plot that invites you to join "the girls" in their bizarre adventures. .
I recommend it as a good read!

I guess I love traditional mysteries too much. I keep thinking if there are no clues how can it be a mystery. Lots of confusion and a rather convoluted story but does this make it a mystery? I guess I have to yes but I don't want to say yes, LOL.

It was interesting enough to keep me reading but it also kept me frustrated. I wanted clues that were logical and lead somewhere but that isn't how this author writes so I just had to accept her style and sit back and enjoy the book.

This was better than the first one in the series so I do hold out hope for the third book which I have on my Kindle.

If you can enjoy a mystery mostly created by far-fetched lies and secrets, then you would enjoy this book.

Oh, the author did use a nice little twist of being the author and the main character.

Without Any Warning is a light-hearted mystery that reminds me of a French farce--who's behind which door? Samantha rents a beach house for a quiet getaway, but one by one, friends (old and new) show up to stay with her. Her handsome new neighbor, a real estate agent, and the cleaning crew join in the mix. No one is quite what they seem, leading to misunderstandings, false leads, and red herrings.

Samantha, a friendly, tolerant woman, trusts her friends--not always wisely. She's writing a mystery and using current goings-on for the plot. The book-within-a-book idea is interesting. The first-person story is written in a breezy, conversational style with wry asides to the reader. The scenes fly by, and the ending surprised me.

Ms. Edelheit gets better with each book. I enjoyed reading this story.

I was a little disappointed in this book after really enjoying the first Samantha Jamison book. Similar to the first one, this book finds Sam thrown into a series of bizarre circumstances that don't make sense until the dramatic conclusion. There are multiple characters with mixed agendas, and Sam is never sure who is trustworthy and who is manipulating her. This is sort of along the lines of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, only not that ridiculous.

What I didn't enjoy about this book is how many clues just "happened" to be overheard. In the library, on the beach, on the phone, at the market...Sam is in the right place at the right time to hear multiple arguments and conversations that lead her to solving the mystery. Not too believable. None the less, it was entertaining.

This is a quick read that will keep you guessing as you meet all the players in this game of cat and mouse. No one is as they seem. The author has a keen sense of humor and fun and writes with a light-hearted approach. I enjoyed her easy writing style that moves quickly through the story and how she rehashes the clues with the reader. She makes the reader feel as if he/she is right in the mix of things.

I read two of Ms. Edelheit's books and look forward to more exciting and entertaining reads. It is refreshing to read a book without excessive violence and foul language. Thank you, Peggy!

Must read the first book "Puzzle" before reading this one! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A mixture of characters both new and from the first book - all interesting and fun to get to know better. Like the Puzzle you will have to pay attention to follow the game. It does help once you know some of the players from Peggy's first book. I am looking forward to the next book and having another adventure with these characters.

I read Peggy Edelheit’s first book The Puzzle and loved it, so I was expecting her next one to be just as good. Glad to say, I wasn’t let down. Without Any Warning kept me on the edge of my seat with every knock on Sam’s door. Well written, intriguing mystery that held me captivated until the very end. Looking forward to reading the next in the series. Would I recommend this book? You bet!

After I finished the first book in this series, I wasn't quite sure I wanted to start Book Two, Without Any Warning. The author literally threw every character possible into the mix without rhyme or reason. I wished I had followed my instinct and saved myself time and aggravation.
