Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She's still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her, but when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.
Being around him awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline kick of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head—wanted: dead or half-alive—means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard she tries to keep things professional between them, she'll find that desire lasts forever... and that Bones won't let her get away again.

I did NOT know this was a thing! Dramatized audio is my new favorite addiction. I listened to like 70% if this in one sitting. I am amazed at how relaxing it can be to listen to a favorite movie. Just having it playing in the background. This format is similar and gives me the same satisfaction. This is my 4th time rereading this series over the course of nearly 2 decades. Cat and Bones were a favorite PNR couple when I first read the series in 2009 and still remain in the top 5. I can making this an annual or bi-annual series read for sure.
14 April 2023 - Bones' version of this book (Both Feet in the Grave) releases in a few days so it's the perfect time to re-read the same story from Cat's POV. The dramatized version is available from hoopla and it's a lot of fun to listen to. And honestly, they have a better narrator for Bones than Tavia Gilbert's cockney copy of Spike.
One Foot in the Grave (Dramatized Edition) is a graphic audio published by the company Graphic Audio and written by Jeaniene Frost, based on the second book in her Night Huntress series, One Foot in the Grave. Cat Crawfield hasn't seen Bones in about four or five years, but after she's targeted for assignation, Bones might be the only one who can help her. After having worked as for the last four (or five) years she definitely has acquired some new (and old) enemies. Will Bones be able to save Cat from the impending danger? Will they be able to rekindle their lost relationship?
I really enjoyed this addition to the Night Huntress graphic audio series, it was so entertaining. There was so much going on and the music, sounds, and voice actors really came together to help tell an exciting story.
The spicy scenes were okay in this. They weren't the best but they weren't terrible I'm giving the spicy scenes three chilies 🌶️🌶️🌶️ out of five chilies
This was really exciting and all the elements came together to make a really nice dramatized adaption of One Foot in the Grave. I'm giving this 4.5 out of 5 stars instead. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 4.5/5 Stars
The first book ended in a very exciting way, and in this book Cat, our half-vampire nowworks for the government. She still kills vampires but to protect Bones she had to leave him behind and disappear. But of course, in the end she is going to need his help, because someone wants Cat at all costs. I like the new secondary characters that are introduced, the team of agents working with Cat are very nice. CAt's mother gives me a bit of anger but when she meets Bones it's funny, more how he puts up with her than how she treats him.
Again the dramatization is excellent, with Danny Gavigan just as top as Bones, and Rob Moreira appears, who plays Juan, and I'm happy because I also love the way he works. Cat's voice..., I don't like it that much but she also works well.
Basic Plot: Cat is helping run a government vampire-hunting operation when she lets a vamp from Bones's past go. This turns out to be a very complicating factor in Cat's life.
These books are popcorn: fun to read, not much substance. While I enjoy them, there are some issues I have with the writing. There are some moments when there is threat to the main characters, but not much. They are so powerful, well-trained, and smart enough to plan ahead that in the end there isn't actually any threat at all. There's always an out. There's always a secret plan. It's kind of annoying.
Now, on the positive side, Frost avoids most of the romantic tropes that annoy me to no end. Cat and Bones have a solid relationship and they don't do overly stupid things. They also have a somewhat believable relationship. The mistakes they do make are believable ones. More than that, though, the plot centers around STUFF HAPPENING, not just the romantic storyline. This makes me happy. The pacing is pretty fast, the sex scenes are steamy but don't detract from the plot (at least so far), and the world does seem to be developing.
Really, the one question really pestering me at this point is the number of vampires and ghouls in the world Frost has created. They make up a significant portion of the population, yet still remain largely invisible to the larger population. This is the biggest thing irking my suspension of disbelief, and it isn't a small issue. Yet, I will soldier on...
These Graphic Audio productions are amazing. I love the casting.
Cat Crawfield is back—and she’s traded in “half-vampire on a mission” for “government agent who can still absolutely wreck your day.” She’s sharper, stronger, and very much not over Bones, no matter how hard she pretends.
When an assassination target gets painted on her back, the only person she can turn to is the dangerously charming vampire she walked away from. And oof… stepping back into his orbit hits her with everything she’s been suppressing—from the thrill of fighting beside him to the kind of chemistry that could power an entire vampire underground.
Their reunion is messy, electric, and impossible to look away from. Between deadly threats, unresolved emotions, and the fact that Bones refuses to let her run again, this book delivers action, tension, and enough steam to fog up a crypt door.
Fast-paced, emotional, and deliciously intense—this installment sinks its fangs in and does not let go.
I really liked this one. Had to listen to the regular audio bc Hoopla didn’t have the graphic audio for book 2. Tavia Gilbert did a great job overall. Although, I wasn’t thrilled with Bones voice. He sounded like an old lady at times. He has an English accent she did well but she didn’t make his voice deep at all. It was rather high pitched for one of the strongest vampires and MC Hero. She can do deep male voices bc she did several other male voices that were deep. Those were fantastic with Spanish and southern accents. Ok edit to add. I started the next book in graphic audio and realized I don’t like the main female narrated as much for those books and she does most of the talking. I’m not sure if I’ll just listen to the regular version. Overall I thought she did great.
This was my first ever dramatized adaptation, and I had no idea this was even a thing! While I’m only a so-so fan of traditional audiobooks, I absolutely LOVED hearing a story come to life with a full cast and immersive sound effects. 🎭🔥
I just happened to stumble across this gem and honestly have no clue how many books like this exist but I need more! 😍
I read this series probably 15 years ago, and I’m really enjoying revisiting it the second time around. 💫
I've finished all the main novels in the Night Huntress universe before I listened to this graphic audio, so I knew what happened to Ian and how badly his "friends" treated him. Unfortunately, I also knew who ended up badly in next books, which made me a little sad while listening to this.
Cat's mother was her usual irritating-self. Cat's catfight with Bones' ex wasn't as "entertaining" as I expected in this format. Cooper was still my favorite of all her co-workers. Don was surprisingly not as overbearing as I imagined him. Felt a bit too mild.
"Jeaniene Frost's 'One Foot in the Grave' audiobook is an electrifying adventure filled with gripping drama, unforgettable characters, and spine-tingling romance. The incredible narration in the dramatized version brings each character to life, offering a deeply immersive experience that truly sets it apart. With Crispen 'Bones' stealing the show with his magnetic charm, this audiobook is an absolute must-listen for anyone seeking an unforgettable journey into the supernatural world of Jeaniene Frost."
There’s just something weird about the voice and intonation of Cat that I didn’t really notice in the first book. It can get quite irritating at times. I don’t know if it’s bad acting or it’s really just the narrator’s voice. Thank goodness the other voice actors are great, especially Bones so it kinda balances out. And of course, their awesome banter, humor and story made up for it. Onto the next book…
You know what? This was fun. This was better. Cat was cool but now, she is a real badass. The story helps but it's her transformation that's the real bonus. She is no longer about to put up with any shit, she knows what and who she wants. Going to see this through, I think.
I'm going with four stars, but to tell the truth this story is not for me. I listened to the graphicaudio and the narrators did a great job. But the story doesn't klick with me. I tried the next book in this series and felt the same way. So I just give up on this series. I might return to it later.
This was AMAZING!!! As a die hard, Cat and Bones fan these graphic audios make me feel like I am experiencing their story all over again for the first time!
I loved the dramatized edition of Halfway to the Grave, but these Graphic Audio versions aren't as long as the original audiobooks and content was cut. There was stuff I was expecting going into One Foot in the Grave that was not there. Stuff I wanted to be there that wasn't.
Did it take away from the story? Not really, but as a fan of the series since the beginning, missing certain things was felt deeply. I mean, I get why it was cut, but I still don't like it. No time to really talk about One Foot in the Grave, so I'm linking to an old review about nothing but the book.
