New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author Suzanne Brockmann has thrilled audiences with her tall, dark and dangerous series. Experience them here, with two classic tales of heroes who face the most daring adventure of all--falling in love.
The Admiral's Bride
When six canisters of a lethal nerve agent are stolen from a military testing lab, Admiral Jake Robinson must recover the chemicals--by any means necessary. With Dr. Zoe Lange at his side he defies convention and decides to infiltrate the compound where religious fanatics have stored the deadly toxin. But Jake fears his instant attraction to Zoe might compromise the mission.
Unknown
Navy SEAL Mitchell Shaw woke up one morning with no clue as to who he was. The items hidden in his possession were no an address and a .22 caliber sidearm. But the address led him to the Lazy 8 Ranch--and its beautiful manager, Becca Keyes, who made him believe he might have a future. Even if he wasn't sure about his past.
After childhood plans to become the captain of a starship didn’t pan out, Suzanne Brockmann took her fascination with military history, her respect for the men and women who serve, her reverence for diversity, and her love of storytelling, and explored brave new worlds as a bestselling romance author.
Over the past thirty years she has written sixty-three novels, including her award-winning Troubleshooters series about Navy SEAL heroes and the women—and sometimes men—who win their hearts. Her personal favorite is the one where her most popular character, gay FBI agent Jules Cassidy, wins his happily-ever-after and marries the man of his dreams. Called All Through the Night, this mainstream romance novel with a hero and a hero hit the New York Times hardcover fiction bestseller list. In 2007, Suz donated all of her earnings from this book, in perpetuity, to MassEquality, to help win and preserve equal marriage rights in Massachusetts.
In addition to writing books, Suz writes and produces indie movies and TV including the award-winning romantic comedy The Perfect Wedding. Her recent feature, Out of Body, is streaming on Amazon Prime.
In 2018, Suz was given the Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award from the Romance Writers of America. Her latest projects are Blame It on Rio (Tall, Dark & Dangerous # 14), available in print and e-book from Suzanne Brockmann Books, and Marriage of Inconvenience, a six-episode LBGTQ rom-com TV series, streaming on Dekkoo in April 2023.
Opening Line: "Sergeant Mathew lange had been left to die." I’m just loving this fun, sexy and exciting series, giving us larger then life Navy SEAL heroes, capable of anything it seems except falling in love easily. Here we get books 7 & 8 from Brockmann’s Tall Dark and Dangerous series (being re-released as 2-in1’s with way better covers) And I would have to say that these two particular stories are my favourites so far.
Using proper military jargon Brockmann gives us delicious alpha-male heroes and just the right amount of action, suspense and sweet romance to keep you coming back for more. And with each story just different enough from the last so that it feels fresh and unique while still connecting the series as a whole, they’re totally addictive too. Each can be read as a stand-alone but I recommend trying to read them in order due to the continuing story arcs, then I dare you not to fall for any member of SEAL Team Tens alpha squad.
Both of the stories here are super good, with fast paced plots, memorable characters, searing love scenes and sigh worthy endings. I couldn’t choose a favourite although Jake Robinson from (The Admiral’s Bride) really stole my heart. Who knew I had a thing for older men?
First up was the aforementioned The Admiral's Bride. Yummy Jake Robinson; at 53 he’s just a great hero regardless of age; kind, selfless more then capable and oh so sexy. Defying convention our Admiral decides to lead his SEAL team here in retrieving 6 canisters of a stolen nerve agent from within a cult leader’s compound. To achieve this he’s teamed with the much younger Dr. Zoe Lange and together they go undercover, posing as a newly married couple.
The sexual chemistry is off the charts hot, in part because of the “big brother” scenario our couple find themselves in once inside the compound. With their every move being monitored they’re forced to fake newlywed intimacy, which of course brings into play real feelings. Jake however is still getting over the death of his wife and not completely comfortable with the age difference which leaves Zoe wondering if the Admirals affection is real or for the benefit of the cameras. With crazy cult members, and wisecracking SEAL’s watching everything from the base, the shower becomes the one place away from prying eyes and then lookout.
In Identity: Unknown (Tall, Dark & Dangerous #8) (Silhouette Intimate Moments, #974) we get amnesiac Mitchell Shaw’s story, giving this a Bourne Identity flavour with a more romantic edge. Our hero “Mish” wakes up in a homeless shelter; dirty, bloody, in pain and apparently hung over. He also has no idea who he is. The items in his possession are of little help; an address, a gun and five thousand dollars in cash.
The address leads Mitch to The Lazy 8 ranch where manager Becca Keyes just assumes he’s her hired hand. And despite the fact that he’s useless on a horse, the sparks fly between them with Becca taking the upper hand here and seducing Mish. This proves to be interesting later when they discover a Priests collar among his belongings. Mish knows he’s not a priest because of the bad dreams but still. Throughout this clever story we piece Mish’s life back together right along with him, giving it an element of suspense. Not to mention the team of SEAL's trying to locate him through his marked cash. Mish thinks they’re the bad guys and they think he’s gone rogue. It all made for some hilarious banter and this story had me smiling throughout.
A 2 in 1 deal. Part of the Tall, Dark and Dangerous series by Suzanne Brockmann. The Admiral's Bride was a good addition to the series but I've never been a fan of the May to December romances. However, it was done in a way that made it an enjoyable read for me. The Admiral is Jake Robinson who is ready to get out in the field in a covert op to locate dangerous canisters filled with deadly toxins. The bride is Zoe Lange, a much younger doctor who is an expert in the area of bio-chemicals weapons.
Identity: Unknown was my favorite of the two. I enjoyed the way the amnesia plotline was used. Mitchell Shaw wakes up in a homeless shelter without his memory. He finds an address that leads him to Becca Keyes. He has dreams that have him sure that he must be scum of the earth and so he is determined to find out who he really is. Meanwhile, members of the SEAL Team are on the lookout for Mitch, unsure of his loyalty to his country.
Just what you would expect from Suzanne Brockmann's Tall Dark and Daring series. The admiral's Bride is about saving the world from a terrorist chemical weapon attack in America. The admiral needs to prove to his team that he can still lead a mission. Identity: Unknown takes us on a journey where Mitch Shaw has amnesia from being shot in the head. As in Mitch's memory slowly starts to return he gets flashes of things he did, but out of context don't tell the true story.
THE ADMIRAL’S BRIDE 2 Star I really struggled with this book; it was just too much. I found the “instant” attraction between Dr Zoe Lange and Admiral Jake Robinson (our heroine and hero) a bit over the top. It just didn’t gel for me that they were both in such an important meeting but could only think about how attractive/handsome they were. The chemistry between Zoe and Jake felt forced and unnatural. The action was a bit slow and drawn out. The plot was disjointed and there wasn’t any real a of why. Apart from the regular SEALS, the other secondary characters especially Christopher Vance felt 2 dimensional and flat. However, as I am binge rereading the TDD series and as this ties in with the next one in the series, I had to finish it. There were flashes of Suzanne Brockmann’s humour, but not as much as in her previous books. It was an okay read, but I never really connected with Zoe and Jake. Not the best in this series.
IDENTITY UNKNOWN 3 Star This is Mitch Hawkins story. Up to now, he has been a shadowy figure in this series, and in this book he still is. We don’t really get to know as much about him as Becca Keyes, our heroine, nor the other SEALS. Becca Keyes, like many of Suzanne Brockmann’s heroines, she is strong, hardworking and independent. The Alpha Squad are looking for Mitch and their hunt for him is and along with Mitch’s mystery this is woven into the book really well. The main focus in this book is on Becca and Mitch and apart from the Alpha Squad, there are few secondary characters. However, a couple of those add a bit of humour and light relief. A good read, but not a great read.
A very well written and perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. A touching story of dealing with life and death. Strong characters and family and friends to get you through how to deal with it all.
This book contains the stories The Admiral's Bride and Identity: Unknown.
I really enjoyed The Admiral's Bride. It's a fun and silly story about an older man and a younger woman. I thought it was so funny everytime the admiral (Jake) focused on the age difference because it clearly wasn't going to make a difference in the end. Jake is a really great character because he is kind of a super hero but he thinks of himself as just another guy. Zoe is a great heroine because she is smart and tough. She tells Jake that she is willing to use sex as part of an op but she is not comfortable with it. The build up of Jake and Zoe having sex for the first time is so much fun. I just couldn't put this story down. Yes, there is a terrorist plot that involves a cult and bioterrorism. Blah blah. I didn't pay much attention to that except that is how Jake and Zoe ended up together.
Quote: "And we know he used to be a SEAL-" "A long time ago-" "But it has been about a million years and-" "You know how on Star Trek," Bobby started earnestly. "On classic Trek,"... page 121
I wasn't as enamored with Identiy: Unknown. Mish was a pretty good character. The idea that he had near total memory loss was a good setup. The layers that were revealed as each step in the story occurred was neat but didn't really draw me into his story. Becca started out such a cool, strong character. She ended up being the typical dumb woman that sticks with the guy even though he keeps telling her to go away becuase he might be dangerous. *Head banging wall* The thing is, a woman as well grounded as Becca wouldn't keep insisting that this guy might be the good guy. He says and does some stupid and insane things but she just keeps holding on. And the ending made me roll my eyes. I think it's the weakest in the series so far.
Quote: She was looking at him like he was some kind of hero. And he knew in a flash that his refusal to accept the money had only made her like him more. Damn. page 333
The Admiral's Bride Suzanne Brockman has a great series going. This book is about Jake, an Admiral, and Zoe, a scientist. They are put together to stop a nut job from blowing up a devise and wrecking havoc. Jake is older and some doubt if he can get the job done. He is also tragically widowed and has closed up that part of himself. Zoe is much younger, but very mature. I usually don't like the heroine to be so much younger than the hero, but Jake and Zoe really make it work and they are perfect for each other.
Identity: Unknown I simply loved this story. It was action from the first page. Good romance, though not as hot as other books in this series. The plot was over the top awesome and I have added it to my favorites shelf, which says a lot.
On a mission to recover stolen Plutonium for The Grey Group, Lt. Mitch Shaw, U.S. Navy SEAL, wakes up in a homeless shelter and has no idea how the got there. When he looks in a mirror a stranger is staring back at him. He has no idea who he is. In his boot he finds a .22 pistol, five thousand dollars and a fax from Rebecca Keyes, manager of the Lazy 8 ranch. That is the only clue he has and a starting point for "Misch", as the attendant has nicknamed him. Mitch follows his clues in the hope that he can figure out who he is. At the Lazy 8 Becca hires him as a ranch hand. Together they avert a tragedy and discover a powerful attraction. Mitch fights it, because although he doesn't know who he is, he feels the need to keep his condition to himself and it is not fare to Becca to get involved with someone who doesn't know who or what he is. But, their growing attraction can't be postponed or reasoned away. Becca stays with Mitch as he follows his clues and they discover not only his true identity, but true love.
Oh my god it was so awesome i loved both stories ,they were so entertaining i could not put this book down.
The Admiral's Bride. I loved reading more about Jake he is so Mmm hot and i was so glad that he found someone else that made him happy ,i was so sad for him when Daisy die ,it was so awful ,but i am so happy that he found Zoe because they are perfect for each other ,i mean the chemistry between the two of them is so steamy ,Jake and Zoe are both such interesting characters that it was awesome to see their story unfold.
Zoe is totally awesome i loved her from the start of this book,it was great how she and Jake end up together ,i thought it was funny that Jake kept fighting what was between them but Zoe would not take no for answer,i know it was hard for both her and Jake to get together because in a way Jake wasn't ready to let Daisy go but in the end they see that they were ment for one another, i really enjoyed their story.
Identity: Unkown. I really liked getting to know more about Mitch and i thought he story was so good,i loved how he meets Becca and i was so bad for him when he can't remember who he is ,but i was glad that he trusted Becca to help him find himself,he's a great character and i was happy that he got his own story.
Becca is pretty cool ,i liked that they both had instant chemistry with each other ,i get why Mitch was trying to fight it but in the end there was no chance that he could fight it any longer ,they make a great couple and i was so loving their story, some steamy stuff going on between teh 2 of them.
Over all this book was so awesome ,i am totally love with this series and i can not wait to read the other books :) , Suzanne Brockmann has become one of my favorite authors and i am loving her books, if you love super sexy navy romance stories then read her books.
I really love this series. I'd give 5 stars to both stories, The Admiral's Bride and Identity: Unknown. The Admiral's Bride deals with Admiral Jake Robinson, SEAL and leader of a team doing black/gray ops. He decides to go undercover to recover stolen nerve gas with an young doctor, an expert on biological weapons, Zoe Lange. She's 29 and he's in his early 50s and a widower. I wondered how I was going to feel about an "older" MC, SB made him into one sexy man and it was easy to see them falling in love and totally believable. Their story is very action packed and the chemistry is amazing, as in most SB books :) Identity: Unknown was great too. Mitch, a SEAL and member of Admiral Robinson's black ops team, goes undercover and suffers a head injury in the middle of a mission. He is alone, and wakes up in a homeless shelter with amnesia. He finds cash, a gun, and an address and name in his boot. The story takes off from there. The address leads him to the Lazy Eight Ranch and manager Becca. I thought the amnesia line would drive me nuts, but it was one of the better ones and the reveal to Becca was well done. Becca is not as fleshed out as I would have liked, but she is very likable. Mitch is, of course, a hero to the core and comes through even before he knows who he really is. Ended kind of abruptly, but to be expected in what was once a category romance.
Picked this up at random from a book sale. Lol I can see why someone gave it up. I got bored with the first book and skipped straight over to the second one. It was interesting, but so full of cheesy cliche's I had to laugh more than a few times. I liked Becca, I thought she was a fairly good heroine and I also liked Mitch, but the amnesia storyline felt... I don't know, thin? There's so little info about his mission and there's suspense (the beginning is pretty solid IMO), that I went along for the ride and just waited for it to get better. Sadly, I never got the OMG feeling I want when I wade around in the romance books. I figured out the ending with about 50+ pages to go. The other SEALS are all so interchangeable and there's nothing about their subplot that stood out to me, either. Now that I know this is a series, I feel like I should go to the beginning, but since I didn't really LOVE these two books I don't see a reason for going back to the beginning or reading any others here. Sorry Brockmann, lovers! It just didn't do it for me.
I give the Admiral's Bride 5 stars, and Identity Unknown 4. The two packaged together, books written 11-12 years ago, are still a hot combo and enjoyable.
Identity Unknown, where SEAL Mitchell Shaw is dropped in a homeless Mission shelter after a gunshot wound to the head, is woven as a good thriller. For those who like military romance, it doesn't disappoint. As he remembers events, most of them horrible details of his past life, I found it believable he does not know if he is a good guy or a bad guy. The reader knows, of course. We get to see how Mitchell is conflicted between wanting a relationship with the beautiful Becca, the heroine, and wanting to do the right thing by perhaps staying away from her.
The sparks were there. As Brockman does with all her SEAL stories, the hero's characters are well defined. The heroine, not so much.
O.k. so while I try and appreciate what Jake Robinson went through (amazing man/character etc) I struggled a little with this one. He is the same age as her father. He might be totally hot, in shape, wonderful, yada yada but I couldn't help but think how sad it would be for her to have such a short time with him (and he w/her and their kids) and then she's putting both her husband and her father in the same old folks home. Sorry, while it was well written and everything I just couldn't get past that.
Mitch was tough for me too. As he was such a minor character in the other books I didn't really get to know and appreciate him the way I do Brockmann's other characters. So, I then found it difficult to buy into the gigantic leap of faith by Becca...
Still love Brockmann and what she does but this book wasn't her best for me.
She never disappoints... love her stories they become addicting ... i can't put the book down till i finished both stories... then i can't wait to start the next one till im done with the whole series .... which of course i never want to end! I love suzanne brockmanns books there amazing.
#7-8 of Tall, Dark & Dangerous series! #7 is The Admiral's Bride & #8 is Identity, Unknown
My favorite military series so far!! I read these books so fast and had to keep going to the book store to buy the next one because I just couldn't wait to read it. Lots of suspense and romance!
Its been a long while since I've picked up a book by Suzanne Brockmann...and now I'll be going back to retrieve other books in this "Tall, Dark and...." series...LOVE books about Navy Seals...Love mixing danger and romance....and being rescued...YUMM... A great read...
I picked this up at the library with no real expectations and really enjoyed it. The storyline and the characters kept me enthralled in the book. Great read. I will be looking for more of Suzanne Brockman.
Loved the continued Jake Robinson story line and how Suzanne blends the characters together to flow thru her books. The sex, romance and suspense are always superb!
This ending dissappointed me. Felt very anti-climactic after everything the MC's had been thru. Still hasnt turned me off Brockmann or her SEALs series tho.
I thought that this would be just a sexy read. Talk about a surprise. I really enjoyed both of these books and will purchase more of her books in the future
