The comrade of the Ackerley sisters’ new brother-in-law was anything but unattractive. Lachlan Kimbal, the newest Marquess of Asheburton, loomed tall, dark and rich—and he was looking for a wife.
Yet, wasn’t right for Charity’s sister, whom he seemed intent on courting. Amity was in love with another man. But the Ackerly family stuck together, the twins most of all, so they would perpetrate a deception. Thwarting the infuriating Scotsman would even be a laugh. For one night Charity could act demure and gracious, strong yet obedient—everything that Lachlan sought. In that same night, he would prove himself everything she desired.
DENEANE ELISE CLARK lives in South Carolina, just across the border from Charlotte, North Carolina, with her teenage daughter and son, and a cat clinging in ignorant bliss to her three remaining lives. The eldest of three girls, she grew up just outside of New Orleans, Louisiana, wandering through her childhood with her nose buried in a book when she should have been cleaning her room.
Currently, she spends her days working full time, her nights writing, and the in-between times sitting on bleachers and selling concessions for the high school booster club. To relax, she likes to go to a local restaurant on a nearby lake and sit on the deck enjoying laughter and drinks with an amazing group of friends.
I was a bit overwhelmed by all the names at first (6 girls to keep straight and 4 or 5 guys). The story started rather slow, and rather predictable, but with some unique twists and surprises towards the end. I lived the authors style for the love scene too!! (So, SO relieved not to deal with the "inch by inch" of the description of the first "insertion") I also REALLY like that Charity was naïve with bedding, but at the same time had her own passions. Look forward to more light romance stories from Ms. Clark!!
This book is what I call a "quick read." The characters were not fully developed. The plot needed more foreshadowing. I would recommend this book to someone who enjoys a light mystery.
I kind of wish I did not read all three of these right in a row. I would have enjoyed them more as stand alone books if I'd read one, waited a few months, read another, waited a few months, and read the third. Charity was better than the last one, and I liked that the characters, though falling into the "have a conversation already and clear things up" trap, at least made an effort to get past that and keep an open dialogue through the rest of the book. I felt that Lachlan was the worst of the three husbands though, and Charity the most childish. Still a quick, easy, enjoyable read though.

Main Story is of Charity and Lachlan. Amity also Marries Greg, the Dr. Sides story is of the Ackerley sisters : Patience, Grace, Amity, Charity, Faith and Mercy the youngest at 15 nearly 16!! The story is delightful and enjoyable to read. Mercy is a Hoot will she every get her Dashing Duke!! Recommend Highly. Historical Romance, with Drama and a slight bit of Ton Action. MF.
The beginning is a bit slow, and there are parts where it would have probably been better to read the books in order. At a little over 250 pages it is a short read. But it actually turned into a pretty good book. More a 3.5, yet definitely better than a 3.
Can't shake this feeling, like the author was too lazy to type more words to give us more explanation. Sometimes I even checked over the paragraph I just read, because it's like there's some things still missing.
Maybe if I had read this series from the start I would have felt better. The girl in the first half of the book seemed to stupid to be the one in the second half of the book.
