This was my very first astronomy book given to me by my grandparents in the seventies and although the information is dated it's still a good book with lots of basic information that doesn't change. It contains a set of sky maps in the back that are wonderful, printed on heavy black paper to simulate the night sky.... if you don't keep the book at least cut them out and keep them, if you are into observational astronomy. I may buy a damaged copy to do just that, if the maps are intact.
