Rachel runs Rapunzel’s, a high-end salon on the lower level of a downtown Chicago high rise and lives happily in self-imposed exile in an apartment at the top of the tower—that is until Jake Malden walks in with his teen daughter, Emma, and presents Rachel with a dilemma. Young Emma is determined to defy her mother’s wishes and get her long, beautiful, untouched hair cut off so she can donate it to charity to honor a friend with cancer. Rachel’s decision to cut the girl’s hair starts a snowball of drama, turmoil and hidden secrets rolling downhill on a course with destiny that no one is able to stop, one that ultimately threatens not only Rachel’s livelihood, but her slowly melting heart as well.

A modern retelling of the story of Rapunzel. It is sweet, romantic, touching, and funny. The characters are genuine, the situations are real, the writing style is enjoyable, and the erotic scenes are delicious.

The epilogue is too cheesy though, let alone one of the elements I despise the most in romances (that is ). But overall it is a very sweet story.
“On or off?”
She glanced at him, at the light in his eyes, and wondered what he was thinking.
“Off.”
“On.” He disagreed, grinning.
“Wait... was that lights or clothes?”

I started this as a kinky Fairytales retold but this was more a romance with good vanilla erotic moments in. Nothing kinky here except use of terms top and bottom and him controlling action in the limo. It is a heart warming story of Rachel/Rapunzel the high class hairdresser and her struggle with chemotherapy on her hair. She meets a brave young lady Emma prepared to sell her hair to wig makers for cancer sufferers as a gesture of solidarity with her best friend Livy. Emma's father and Rachel develop a romantic relationship based on similar love of hockey.

It is well written, very sweet, has moments that hit my emotions and brought a tear to my eyes. In this the ending as HRN was ideal as any fairytale, original or retold.

Considered for 3 or 4 stars. It is borderline 4 for me. Edited and decent standard of English.

I clearly am never going to be a fan of how Selena Kitt writes sex scenes, but Rapunzel was a sweet little story and I loved the last sentence:

"Then, like a magician, he got down on one knee and turned hope into something with wings."

Isn't that a great way to write a proposal? Not cheesy, just lovely.

I've been reading through Selena Kitt's Modern Wicked Fairy Tales, and this one so far is my favorite. Everything about the story in this one brings on the drama of what I would call a modern fairy tale while still be absolutely believable. The characters all made sense and for once I didn't feel like Kitt was randomly throwing details in to help the story flow. We should all be so fortunate to find a Jake.

I did enjoy the story a lot. It had a good plot compared to the other story in the series (in my opinion). The book tackles an issue about a woman and her hair. They do say that a woman’s hair is their life.

This was a fun light read that tackles a woman fighting a disease that causes them to lose hair. The world building and flow of the story even though it was short was really good and would recommend it to everyone.

This was really good story. I liked Jake and Rachel and their story was short but sexy and very sweet. This is the first story I've read by this author and based off this I'm likely to try more of her work in the future.

Rachel is a hair stylist that owns a salon called Rapunzel's. She's a nice lady but isn't having a good time right now as she recently learned she's sick and is struggling to get past it and move on with her life. She doesn't have time for a man in her life and wasn't expecting one to walk in her salon.

Jake is a corporate lawyer but is still a nice guy. He is divorced and raising a teen daughter. His daughter has a friend with Leukemia and wanted to cut her hair to donate to "Locks of Love". Since her mother objected, Jake agreed to take her to a salon to get it done.

Rachel is starting on a customer when an issue arises with a double booking for another syslist. Rachel decides to handle the second client herself and finds it's a girl with her father who wants to cut her hair to donate. She agrees to squeeze them in but quickly realizes the man's ex is one of her clients who happens to be in the salon right then. Rachel manages to get the girl's hair cut quickly and get them out before the mother realizes but before they leave, Jake asks Rachel out and she says yes. They go out and have a hot time afterwards but it freaks Rachel out and she takes to avoiding Jake, thinking he wouldn't stick around if he found out about her illness. Jake is persistent though and they meet again. Jake finds out her secret but doesn't care and they start on something more. There's some drama they have to face but they get past it and the epilogue shows them a few months down the road, happily together and starting their HEa.

I really enjoyed this story. I liked both Rachel and Jake very much and the story was sexy and sweet and ended leaving me feeling touched and happy. I'd recommend this story. 2 thumbs up! :)

Sweet love story (erotica lite) about a hairdresser with amazingly beautiful hair, which turns out to be a wig. We find out that she has just gone through chemo and is battling her inner demons. Of course, that would be the time she happens to meet someone, and has to decide if she wants to let him in.

As with the other books in this series, these lean more toward the erotica lite side of things. They are nothing like some of Kitt's more detailed and taboo books. If you like the idea of a sweet love story with an extra helping of steam, this is a good pick.

Rachel Lange is the owner/operator of a high-end salon who prides herself on providing the best possible services for her clients. When a teenage girl asks for a haircut with her locks to be donated to 'Locks Of Love' Rachel personally undertakes the appointment. Unfortunately, even though her father supports his daughters decision, it's the mother who makes a big stink about the whole thing and proceeds to file a lawsuit requesting damages be awarded.

Jake Madden is a loving father and prominent lawyer who is still in close contact with his ex wife as they share custody of their teenage daughter. When his daughter insists on getting a haircut and donating to 'Locks Of Love' he readily agrees and goes with her to the salon. Fallout occurs when his ex blows up demanding justice. As a lawyer he jumps in to represent ... Rachel Lange.

* * * *

A light hearted chick lit read that includes some hot and heavy adult content scenes. Personally, I don't see any parallel to the fairy tale 'Rapunzel' except the is a hair slant and the name of the salon is Rapunzel’s. A few story line surprises and a feel good HEA made this enjoyable. The only thing is it doesn't have any depth or character development so what you read is what you get.

Rachel, stunning and successful, is hiding a secret. One that has her locked in her busy tower salon, cutting the hair of rich witches like Nina Malden. When Nina's daughter and ex-husband enter the salon with their request, they set off a series of events that could either set Rachel free or bring her to her knees. The relationship between Jake and Rachel is tentative and hot, the type that rocks them both off their axes. Emma Malden is as sweet and kind as any altruistic princess should be. Joshie is the creative and supportive right hand man of every girl's dreams. The story is delightfully crafted with just the right amounts of sweet, sexy and sassy. It deals with a tough issue with dignity and without moralising. If you like fast, hot reads with damsels and white knights who support as much as they save and where no character has to lose their strength, then this is perfection.

Definitely not your typical fairytale. Oh if the real Rapunzel only knew the possibilities. She would have GLADLY let down her hair sooner!! But in this Wicked fairy tale--our princess/salon owner is named Rachel. Yes, she has long, flowing hair. But it's a wig. You see, Rachel is in the middle of cancer treatments and has lost all of her own gorgeous locks. Ironically, she owns a salon that caters to the ritzy and demanding. If they knew she wore a wig---would they ever come back to her salon?
Rachel finds the inner strength and courage from the most unlikely place. And her life will never be the same.

Another amazing book by Selena Kitt!!

I couldn't put it down.

I love it! I think it is my favorite short story in this collection so far!!

Rachel is a salon owner who has cancer. Jake brings his daughter into the salon because his daughter Emma wants to donate 18 inches of her hair to Locks of Love (against her wicked mothers wishes). While at the Salon, sparks fly between Rachel and Jake. At first she is so nervous about telling Jake about her cancer but there relationship becomes hot and serious pretty quickly.

On top of everything, Rachel is getting sued by Jakes ex-wife over a certain haircut that Emma gets at her salon. It is a really touching story.

Rupunzel was heaps better than Briar Rose! The story was really "nice" (ugh that's a sappy word, but it works in this instance) and I even felt emotionally attached (ie got tears in my eyes) to the cancer sufferers even in the space of an hour! So, really well written for a short story.
The only thing that doesn't work for me in really short novellas is the instant love. In the space of 45 minutes they've met, had one date, sex 80 times (OK that is a little exaggerated), fallen in love and become engaged. That is a tad hard to believe.
But the overall story was nice. I liked it. 3.5 sweet (and Selena sexy) stars.

I loved this short story. It's Selena Kitt so of course there's sex (and hot sex) and while that is enjoyable, what I loved more was the story. Who couldn't love a story about a selfless girl doing what she can to make her friend feel more comfortable? And the father who supported her AND showed Rachel she didn't have to hide from him. This story made me so emotional, and I don't think it's easy to pull that level of emotion from a short story. Well worth the buck!! Now I'm going to go cry (tears of joy) some more. This is one I'll continue to think about, and not just because of the sex!!

Great short story. We get a complete tale in a small word count. I won't go into too much detail, but we get a bond over a serious desease, a divorced couple's drama, and limo sex. These things don't go together you say? Well you haven't read Selena Kitt before have you? I swear this woman could make corndogs sexy.

Other than some exhibitionist treats, we get some regular gritty M/F smexin'. Great story.

I felt this was a more contemporary romance book than erotic. Or maybe I'm too immersed in BDSM that this came off as regular old romance. I found this story to be sweet and delightful. It was very short and it was moving because of the reason behind the hair. I liked it and felt it was just the right length. It moved very fast from meeting to marriage. It's a fairy tale (American style) so I expected a happily ever after. Good for the romantic.

This was a very short novella that had a minimal plot to support some very steamy sex scenes. However, the supporting plot was very touching, dealing with the subject of maintaining your femininity in the face of cancer treatments. The plot does have an HEA, but it is so short that the reader can't really form a connection to the characters. A good diversion, but too short to be truly meaningful.

Not a lot to it. The writing is very good in terms of readability. flow, grammar, etc. But it needs more story and depth. Kind of stuck between a contentional romance and an erotic story withoud deciding which it wants to be.

I am reading "The Real Mother Goose" it looks better and has decided to be an erotic story in the "Beauty" series by Anne Rice.

A nice short story that didn't actually have much in common with the fairy tale it's named after. The characters were pretty good considering the length of the story; the relationship was rushed but that was to be expected. All in all an enjoyable, quick read.

This was a good story, and while it was enjoyable, I learned more about the characters from the summary than from the actual book. I know this was a short story, but it felt odd depending on the summary for essential knowledge.
