Another re-read in pursuit of getting all the books republished with Speaking Volumes.
This was a fun story, very in touch with the "space opera" feel of the earliest volumes. We've got a planet settled by an Amish-like people who hate tech and therefore are VERRRRY good about sticking their heads in the sand with regard to that giaormous volcano casting shade over them every afternoon, which has to be dormant because they really need it to be.
Hint: It's not.
We have Bandit running stealth missions and stealing bits of cake from the spacers she's charmed. There's a bunch of burly space traders who could snap an I-beam in half bare-handed and become staunch allies after having their butts kicked in a tavern brawl. There's a lot of danger and a bunch of science and in the end, this is what Star Commandos should be.

Islaen and Varn are definitely trouble magnets, never mind that they were sent into this situation expecting trouble. Some people just have the talent for inspiring troublemakers to make trouble and it seems that Islaen and Varn are two of those people. I just did not expect a watery paradise to explode any more than Varn expected to make friends with some people whom he would have tasked with destroying in his previous life. So many fireworks!

This whole series is a fun sci-fi romp from an author who is local to me. Worth the read!
