Tyler holds a M.div from the Master's Seminary and has spent most of his life seeking to inspire children and youth to follow Christ and know God's Word.
After seeing 20 minute bedtime stories change his son's life, Tyler decided to take up the challenge of changing the world through biblically faithful and beautifully illustrated books.
This is one of my new favorite children’s storybook Bibles! It’s part 2 of a 2-part set with the OT. So very well done: Rich biblical theology and accurate retelling of biblical stories combined with beautiful illustrations. As the author of the book (a graduate of The Master’s Seminary) describes it, this is a storybook Bible for children to grow into, rather than out of. Through 15 chapters, it masterfully tells the unified story of the NT, with a sustained focus on the Kingdom of God, covenant, offspring, and Savior.
The author summarizes God’s Kingdom with four elements: “God’s presence With God’s people In God’s place Through God’s promises.”
At the end of each chapter is a page that recaps the advancement of each of these four elements in that particular portion of the NT story. These pages also contain review questions, a gospel glimpse, and a suggested prayer.
Each chapter begins with a page that has a Bible timeline for what’s to come and Bible references.
This is not as good as the Old Testament volume, mainly because it has pictures of Jesus. I don't regard them as necessarily violations of the second commandment, but it is very hard to do it well, and I disliked the way Jesus is portrayed here. It was nice to see epistles dealt with (which are often missed in children's Bible story books), but the authors' Baptist theology came through very strongly when discussing the sacraments.
Apart from these things, this book continued the previous volume's emphasis on biblical theology, astute selection of stories, and careful use of Scripture.
"Who is this, that even the winds and the waves obey his command?"
♥️ JESUS. "Jesus is the one all the prophets were waiting for! He is our promised Savior, our great High Priest, our perfect Sacrifice, and our faithful King."
♥️ This beautiful storybook Bible divides the New Testament into 15 chapters for a seamless, chronological retelling of Scripture.
♥️ Each story is closely crafted by Scripture. I recognize limited creative license. The text is age appropriate and the illustrations are vivid and captivating. I have minimal notes to make on content and will include these in my full review on my site.
💭 This is the first storybook Bible that I can wholeheartedly recommend. 👀 Keep an eye out for my full review on ✨mudpieswithsprinkles.com✨
♥️ The Bible is God's Word and must take precedence. I believe strongly and reading straight from Scripture and oral retellings. But this is a beautiful companion to add to our Family Bible & Breakfast.
For reference, my older girls are 3 and 5. This is perfect for them!
The first storybook Bible that did not oversimplify God's word and one they can grow into. We just finished reading the OT storybook, and will soon start this one together.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 out of 5 stars! I RECOMMEND both the OT and NT.
____________ Thank you Lithos Kids for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is central as every story points to Him, who He is, and what He has done. I love the format of the chapters with additional resources at the end filled with questions for my kids to think through deeper. Though it is not lengthy as a whole, it covers each aspect that is crucial for basic understanding of the gospel and what God’s purpose is for fulfillment of Old Testament, the sacrifice (death, burial, resurrection of Christ) and looking forward to things to come. I loved this! My children (8, 7, 4, and 2 years old) listened and enjoyed it greatly so I am confident children of all ages can glean from this amazing resource. My heartfelt thanks to Tyler Van Halteren, pointing to Christ with clarity, helping my kids understand what great things God has done!
We have all of these books! It started with the Little pilgrims big journey and we were blown away with how beautiful it was and we’ll written. The quality and design is hands down the best I’ve seen in a childrens book. My kids LOVE them! These New and Old Testament versions they’ve created are spectacular!! My kids grab the books by themselves to read them. There’s nothing more encouraging than seeing your kids fall in love with the word of God! We have 5 young kids and they all love them. We now buy them as gifts.
This was a very well summarized, beautifully illustrated, theologically rich book with excellent connections to Christ, the gospel, and provoking questions to help kids work through the story of the Bible.
There were a few instances where things didn't fit, like when there a picture of the sun in the background of a text that said there will no longer be any sun, for God will be there. Also, those who are against images of Christ will not appreciate this book, because the intended depictions of Jesus are plentiful.
Our 4 and 2 year olds really love it despite some of the language going over their heads. The illustrations are beautifully engaging. Bible stories are all told with reference to God's Kingdom which helps kids hang the teaching on a single theme. Looking forward to re-reading.
It was such a joy to read these books to my son. The illustrations are gorgeous! The focus is not as much on specific Bible stories, but more on how everything in the Bible points to God’s plan of redemption and His kingdom. I felt like I learned a lot reading these books and I’m looking forward to reading them to my children many, many times in the future. Highly recommend.
Like its Old Testament counterpart, I found this quite repetitive, beyond what would be helpful for little kids’ attention spans, and I didn’t think it properly captured the joy of the resurrection. A helpful resource and beautifully illustrated, but I don’t think I’ll read the whole thing to my kids again.
Impressed by how the author brought together the history, epistle, and prophecy books of the New Testament into a cohesive story for kids. Just as with the Old Testament volume, the writing and illustrations were on point!
These are solid options for a Bible storybook especially with the summaries and questions following each chapter. Note there is a sentence that implies limited atonement in the "cross" chapter.
