Now that I’ve killed the head of a foreign government agency, I’ve got a lot of fallout to deal with. But it turns out, being The Alpha comes with even more power and influence than I ever imagined possible. And it’s a good thing, too. Because the secret world of werecreatures is under attack. Life as we’ve known it is about to come crumbling to the ground, and it’s up to me to keep shifters all over the globe from being exposed.
I really liked the first part of this series, was disappointed with the slowing of the pace in later entries, so skipped ahead to part 12 to see where the series was headed. Well, it's all the negative things of the previous parts to the nth degree. No suspense, formulaic sex, super slice of life, extremely boring (I didn't finish it, but after listening to 3 hours / 30% of the audiobook I think I had a good impression of how little was happening here). Also, what's with these extreme French-American accents of the ladies in the audiobook? I understand there are Canadians in the story, but this sounds like a comedy sketch?! All in all if you like extremely detailed slice of life stories Vall is great, I guess.
So, to be clear, my comments about the previous installment still stand - bunch of thoughts/wishes lacking a home still stand. Though the arc with Hazel finally came home to roost, just too many other issues to reconcile. At the time, I mentioned that it may be time to end The Alpha, because it felt like the Author was no longer invested in its success.
While I don’t feel a need to back off from those sentiments , I truly enjoyed this installment. Episode 12 was more “carefully” crafted - i.e. “leaving more leeway” to continue or kill the series.
Make no mistake - I LOVED this series from the outset. Sadly, though, it felt like “author disinterest” would kill it prematurely, and that was particularly evident after the previous installment. Hopefully, some sharply worded reviews helped the author realign his priorities appropriately to recognize the ramifications for laziness. And ‘nuff said. Good installment. Please, Mr. Author - keep it together long enough to finish this promising series appropriately, instead of ‘with a whimpering conclusion’. It on you, dude.
The Alpha has always been a favourite series of mine and I'm loving the intricate world, pack politics and more recent developments, but this one takes the cake.
With a threat to not only Jesse's pack, territory and family, but to the entire shifter community world wide, it's one thrill ride after the other. I couldn't put the book down.
And with the way things ended, book 13 is going to be even better!
The only thing that I can see wrong, I may have read it wrong, is that Yukon and Alberta do not have a common border. Other than that, I found this to be as good as ever. I know what it's like to travel with a baby, MAC flight in the military, and boy it can stink. The rest of the story was great, you can see the way the other Alphas are, it seems, accepting his station as "The Alpha". Keep up the good work!
Mix international Werecreature relations, daring plans, beautiful girls, tense situations, humor, and sex, you might have an inkling as to the mc's troubles. But, this werewolf wants to keep his human ID and finish college. Vall has been building this series longterm and each book builds upon the next so things hinted at in ALPHA 1 are important the others. Keep the series going and buy this series.
This was an incredibly engaging entry to this fantastic series, the scale of the adventure has just been taken up a notch! I cannot wait for the next on the series!
I love this series and I think the characters are amazing. I really have a hard time story reading these books once I start. If you haven't checked this series out I highly recommend it.
Another minimal effort by Eric Vall. For the record Eric, Vancouver Island has almost 1 million people living on it, the way you write, it sounds like a small island with maybe a few hundred people.
