Mysterious blood has been discovered on the remains of an ancient religious artifact. Some believe it is the blood of Christ. And experiments with specific genes from the blood have brought surprising findings. Now it's time to introduce those genes into a human. Enter Michael multiple killer, death-row resident . . . and, if he is willing, human guinea pig. There are no promises. The effects may kill Coleman or completely destroy his sanity. He agrees to the experiment, with results so astonishing that the research must continue--but not in prison. Given a new identity and new employer, Katherine Lyon, Coleman reenters society. And that's when a plot far darker than science alone could construct begins to emerge. A carefully researched science and psychological thriller, Blood of Heaven is a nonstop page turner that looks deep into the heart of man, examining the nature of good and evil, flesh versus spirit, and the ever-growing controversy over genetically determined behavior.
Bill Myers was born into a Christian home, and although as a child he became bored with Christianity, he decided at the University of Washington quote, to "make God my boss." Ironically, at the University his worst subject was writing. He claims to have prayed, and said that he would be able to do anything for God, except write. Even so, he has become a prominent Christian writer, and has a large amount of successful books and films to his credit.
Bill Myers was my introduction to Christian fiction. Though I didn't really get into it until I was in my twenties, I had fun with Mr. Myers' My Life As... series. Since then, I've read almost all of his adult books, some more than once...including this one. It's an exciting story, and it got me thinking about spiritual matters. I'm glad I have the rest of the trilogy on hand.
This book was fantastic. Its the first in a trilogy that easily qualifies as som eof the best Christian fiction that has ever been written. Bill Myers is a master of Christian fiction that shows us the heart and personality of God as well as the truths about ourselves all within a suspensful, compelling story.
It was probably one of the first Christian Suspense books that I have ever read. It was pretty good. I don't remember much of it,but I remember that I couldn't put it down.
Great for the science-geek in me & the Believer in me. We listened to this book on tape in a Bible class in high school at Midland Christian School. It was pretty neat!
This book had some good parts in it. I took the good parts and enjoyed that. Some of the other parts were so so for me. Bill Myers is an excellent author though.
Michael Coleman is a convicted criminal on death row for murder. Dr. Philip O’Brien is the CEO of Genodyne, a biotech firm with a major gene therapy project. In the remains of an ancient religious artifact, mysterious blood has been discovered. Some believe it to be the blood of Christ. Experiments at Genodyne have led the scientists to a new a place where they are ready to try out their theory on a human.
At first Coleman thinks the scientists are nuts. The Blood of Christ? But he’s no fool. These doctors want him. He refuses to go along with their plans to use him as a human guinea pig unless he gets a pardon. It’s days before he hears back, but somehow the scientists have done it. They explain the particulars and inject Coleman with the substance that is thought to be part of God himself.
This was an awesome book. I loved how all the subplots worked together. Bill Myers confronts the topic of good and evil all the way to the heart of a man. Can an evil man change? Is there hope for everyone? I really liked this book and am excited that there are two more in the series. Recommended.
Similar in themes to Michael Critchton and style/purpose to Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker, Bill Myers is an excellent author. I read this book many years ago, and it is just as good as I remembered. An exciting thriller that asks what if the blood of Christ could be genetically introduced into a human being - and not just any human - a killer meant for death row. A very interesting, thought-provoking, and exciting read.
This book is an excellent read. I could not put this book down. Not since the left behind series have I wanted to lose myself in a book. The author created the perfect mixture of story line, characters and final ending. I would highly suggest this to my fellow readers. I ran out that afternoon and purchased the other two books.
This was very suspenseful and definitely kept me reading, but parts of it were just a little bit too far fetched for me. I also found something that I thought should have happened but didn’t. When Eric’s blood mixed with Michael’s, if Eric got the God gene, wouldn’t he have also gotten the virus leash and become sick?

Wonderful book. I love how the narrative is styled. Love the message. It is a thrilling, unique, and suspenseful adventure. Can't wait to read it again and thoroughly analyze it. Bill Myers is a genius to have been able to pull this off.
(NOTE: I'm stingy with stars. For me 2 stars means a good book or a B. 3 stars means a very good book or a B+. 4 stars means an outstanding book or an A {only about 5% of the books I read merit 4 stars}. 5 stars means an all time favorite or an A+ {Only one of 400 or 500 books rates this!).
The great news is that I can listen to a book a day at work. The bad news is that I can’t keep up with decent reviews. So I’m going to give up for now and just rate them. I hope to come back to some of the most significant things I listen to and read them and then post a review.
One of those books where you don't have to read every word.
Special gene introduced in blood of a death row convict; expected results to reverse his aggressive tendencies. Only problem is the president of the company and the researcher are motivated by two different reasons and the researcher's is bigtime evil greed. Heard this is one of a trilogy. Investigating....
I read this book ages ago and really, really loved it. It takes you on a really wild ride. The main character is a convict who gets experimented on with the blood of Christ. The transformation that takes place in this man is amazing. It's awesome!
An entertaining entry in the "Jurassic Park" DNA manipulation genre employing an effective Christian fiction twist. Though based on 20-year-old technology (copyright 1996), the tale remains quite entertaining and thought-provoking.
I enjoyed this book very much. It was a good book that had a good message without being preachy and it was a Science Fiction book that didn't insult my intelligence or leave me in the dark. I would recommend this book to everyone.
An incredible storyline - what happens if the blood of Jesus is found and put into a killer on death row? Will it change him? Keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time!
Solid first book by Myers in his trilogy. Enjoyed how he showed the tension & war between the old man & the new man (Romans 7 & 8). Great cliffhanger, too.
