July 15, 2021obviously haven't read this cover to cover! (but as i studied Medicine at uni, i probably know a lot of the contents, and have skim-read a lot of it.)

Content/Scope: This dictionary is a quick reference for all things medical. It includes illustrations and diagrams, and the 12,500 authoritative entries, appendices for SI units, biochemical units, commonly used medical abbreviations, and medical associations.
Accuracy/Authority/Bias: The particular edition is edited by a team of medical professionals and is updated with the latest information. Oxford University Press has been publishing in some form since the invention of the printing press in the 15th century. They have sterling reputation for academic and reference publishing in particular, and operate as a worldwide authority in dictionaries specifically.
Arrangement & Presentation: As all dictionaries, this one is alphabetically organized by term. There are multiple appendices included for various medical reference needs, like SI units and biochemical references. Full color diagrams are also included.
Relation to Similar Works: Dictionaries are widely available in the library and classrooms alike; this is one of the few dedicated to medical terminology. Its updated diagrams will also be helpful resources.
Accessibility/Diversity: The entries are are “jargon-free”, so will be more approachable for high school students.

25/12 - Of course I haven't actually read the entire 832 pages of this medical dictionary, but I have used it in order to setttle questions or discussions with family and friends about medical terms and conditions as well as during the course of my work as a medical transcriptionist. This dictionary has been very useful in both situations, especially since it uses the Australian/British spelling which was taken more closely from the Latin than the American spelling. The Australian spelling keeps the 'As' in words like hypoglycaemia, which is how I'm supposed to spell it (instead of hypoglycemia as America does). Highly recommended for anyone who needs to be able to look up out-of-the-ordinary medical terms with the original British spelling. My favourite word at the moment is agammaglobulinaemia, which is the total deficiency of the plasma protein gammaglobulin.

An excellent medical dictionary for the patient researching their illness (i.e. reading medical journal articles, scientific findings and research studies). Specifically, the best I've found for patients with Atrial Fibrillation who are conducting research into the best treatment options. Includes occassional illustrations (for fun check out p. 276 for the types of fingerprint patterns).
Compact and easy to take with you to do research at the public library or local medical school library. (Tip: use your yellow highlighter to mark each entry you lookup; sometimes you need to go back and refresh your memory.)
