Do you know who Heaven Liegh Eldeen is? I didn't until recently, when I had the opportunity to 'meet' with her in a writing group of fiction flashers. Turns out her debut novel The Demon Side, was AWESOME.

The readers are swept away in the point of view of Ra, who is a demon. It was really refreshing to be in the mind of a male {demon}. Okay, so maybe 'refreshing' isn't the right word to describe him. Hm, he get's his rocks off by scary the crap out of any inhabitants of his home. You see, Demons are like ghosts, only seen by a few, or unless they want you to see them. They terrorize, victimize, and feed off of your fear.

Ra has been trapped in his home for 500 years, and has done some despicable things in the name of evil. But lately, he just doesn't remember HOW he got trapped there. There is a cool mystery surrounding the circumstances of Rahovart and how he came to be, and it was fun being present as he learns his past.

Etta, our unlikely heroine, is seventeen, and just moved into Rahovarts home with her Dad and Mother. Etta has had a shit last seven years. Despite her circumstances, she is remarkably brave and strong. I really liked Etta's... huh, I can't think of a word to describe her that suits her properly. I like her balls, I guess. She is strong, determined, yet vulnerable and somewhat demented. I admire her grit despite all that she has suffered at the hands of someone who is supposed to love her, and something that is unleashed upon her.

Etta is but a pawn in a serious game of Angels versus Demons. Only question is, who is who, and who will win Etta's Soul in the end? Will it be Lucifer, Alastor, Rahovart, or maybe Michael?

Let me clarify that last statement, there is NO love triangles. It is not that type of novel, however it is a political novel of sorts.

This is not your typical young adult novel. thank god, because I really am not a fan of young adult, angsty teenage love triangles.

The demon side is a fast paced, compelling and somewhat sinister novel about finding redemption in the unlikeliest of places, and finding love against all odds.

I was completely surprised by how the Demon side ended, and that was bloody fantastic! I love surprises way more than cliffhangers. I do hope that Heaven Liegh Eldeen is writing a sequel...

If you are a fan of Susan Ee's Angelfall, then you might like The Demon Side. It's not anywhere near the same type of book, but yet feels similar somehow.

As an avid reader and reviewer, I have read alot of books. ALOT. Yet, none of them have ever been told in this point of view or with such intensity. It was refreshing and different to see things through Ra's eyes. This book made me laugh, cry, feel angry...you name it.

Never in a million years, do you ever think you can feel pity for a demon. I've never given a second thought to the essence of what a demon truly is--A tortured soul. Until now.

Heaven Leigh Eldeen takes us to the other side. Literally. Forget everything you THINK you know about Demons. Remember, there are two sides to every story. Sadly, we usually only hear the one. This book changes all of that.

Everyone needs to grab a copy of this book, relax and let your mind go with this page turning, "hold onto your seat" ride set to the tunes of mod-rock and metal....This book is everything it promises to be and more. This author is definitely one to watch. I cannot wait to see what side she takes us to next. I am buckled up and ready!!

I have not read a book quite like this one in a while. I really enjoyed how different it was. It was kind of like a haunting mixed in with a love story mixed in with some demon and angel antics. And the ending was unexpected- in a really good way! I'm really glad that I found this book and decided to give it a shot.

Etta is a really sweet character. She is understanding and patient but not a pushover at all. I tend to be a bit of a pushover so I like it when characters don't take any nonsense. It's something that I'm working on myself. (I have been getting better about it recently) What I really like is that Etta is still compassionate and sweet but still a little bit of a hard ass. It's a cool combination.

Rahovart is kind of a strange character. He wasn't really all that mean for a demon. It was a strange mixture of frustration and indifference. That's the vibe that I got from him anyway. I liked him. I was not immediately drawn to him. I was lukewarm for almost half of the book, but once Etta started really warming up to him I slowly started coming around. Eventually I became attached to him, but he is not a huge book crush of mine. And I can't really tell why. He is a good character, he actually turns out to be nice and pretty caring for a demon. But for some reason I could not 100% connect with him. I ended up liking him well enough, and once I learned his backstory I certainly understood him better but something was missing and I don't know what it was.

The story moves along at a brisk pace and I really appreciated that about it. It's a pretty short story, so it doesn't take long to read at all. I enjoyed the writing style and the plot was really interesting. Other than some mysterious disconnect issues with Rahovart, I really liked The Demon Side. Good book!

What a refreshingly different book this is! I have read a gazillion books, but never have I read a book from a demon’s point of view. I’ve had this book on my tbr list for some time now and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but once I picked it up and started reading, I was hooked right from the start.

A couple of things I liked about it was that the writing was clean and the author didn’t feel the need to use excessive profanity or explicit content to get her point across. This book is suitable for young adults, but I’d say it would appeal more to older readers even though the protagonist is eighteen years of age. The main voice in the story is that of Rahovart the demon, and I was surprised how much I liked him and how much sympathy I felt for him. The story starts a little slow but the pace picks up from around the fifth chapter and then speeds along towards the action-packed finale. One of the many things which made this book so memorable is the epic battle scenes between the demons and angels at the end. Nothing was predictable and the plot was rife with twists which kept me engrossed.

Essentially this is a love story, and although I’m not big on romance, this one was like none I’ve ever read before. It was truly beautiful and the author created unforgettable characters which had me rooting for them all the way. The finale is not much of a cliff-hanger ending, but it leaves you curious enough to look forward to the second book in the series. The Demon Side is a quick read which I finished in six hours. It’s exciting, exceptionally unique, and full of surprises. Six hours of my life well spent!

Etta’s not had an easy life. So, why should it be surprising that when her father tries to give her a fresh start, they wind up moving into a house inhabited by a demon? But what about the demon? Has his un-life been any easier? And even more importantly, what happens when their worlds collide in one big bang? In a word: chaos.

Rahavort is both your typical demon and he’s not, not really. While he lives to torture, annoy, and frighten the living daylights out of the living, there’s more to him than that. And it takes a seventeen-year-old girl to make him realize it. I was intrigued by the idea of the story being told from his point of view. However, you can take all your preconceptions and throw them out the window, because Ra is going to surprise you paragraph after paragraph until he’s even surprising himself. Never have I read about a demon so compassionate and caring, even if only when it comes to Etta.

Etta is awesome. She’s damaged, she’s young, and yet she takes no prisoners. Despite the fact she’s literally been through hell and back, she never lets her circumstances get her down. I laughed out loud every time she stood up to Ra and told him to, basically ‘stuff it’. Her bravery and her fragility combine to make for an intriguing character.

At first, I had some trouble with the author’s style. It seemed a bit inconsistent but she happily pulls it together after the first couple chapters and settles into a style that flows in a better way. I’m very thankful for this as it turned out to be an enjoyable story with a shocker of an ending. Demon stories are a favorite of mine and I was excited to find this waiting for me. I was even more thrilled when I saw how the author so wonderfully turned everything we knew about demons on its head. A nice twist of events never hurt anyone, right? I absolutely hope that there is a sequel in the works.

The Demon side is a fantastic beginning to a new series. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a copy because I was interviewing the author. The story at times is sadly intense and Etta is an amazing heroine. She is strong and sweet, damaged and delightful and I cannot wait to see how this young woman is going to grow in the coming adventures. Rahovart is a truly complex hero with his multifaceted personality that seems to fascinate and surprise himself as much as it does the readers. I found this to be a raw read that left me wanting more. The emotions in this piece are so intense, entertaining and left me hypersensitive in a good way. The lead characters secure a deep connection with each other and I quickly became invested in the outcome of their interactions. The supporting cast was just as well developed and I cannot wait to read the follow up to this story.

The Demon Side
by
Heaven Liegh Eldeen
What do a teenager, father, drunk step-mother and a demon called Rahovart all have in common? They all live in the same house. Etta had her issues, and her father had her on medications for those issues. He couldn't come to grips that Etta was actually seeing demons, and the step-mother, just thought Etta was crazy. Etta had no one else to turn to, since her mom died and the only mother figure she had in her life was an alcoholic and could have cared less about Etta. That was until Rahovart came into her life. As a demon, the last thing he wanted to do was fall in love with a human! As a fallen angel there was no hope that Rahovart could ever be anything but a demon. Or was there?
I thoroughly enjoyed this short read by Heaven. She takes the reader on a journey from earth to hell and from hell to heaven. She puts you in the shoes of Etta, a teenage girl whose only issues were the people and demons around her. If not for all the drama, she would probably be deemed 'normal'. Heaven used a great deal of imagination and creativity so the reader can visualize and place the themselves in the story. I am very curious to see where part two of the series, The Human Side, takes me.
The Demon Side is written in a way that it can be read by all ages. It's a fun book to read and has a tremendous twist on unconditional love.
I loved The Demon Side by Heaven Liegh Eldeen and give it five stars *****

The basic premise of Heaven Liegh Eldeen's "The Demon Side" is that Earth is the battleground for a war between good and evil, with the “soldiers” for each side being God’s angels and Lucifer’s demons with one lone American Marine and his family caught in the middle. The prize in this war is an 18-year-old girl named Etta. Etta has been visited by demons regularly but unlike most humans she can see and hear them, particularly the demon Rahovart. The story is told from Rahovart’s POV, as the demon who possesses the house where Etta, her father John and her step-mother Rene live...

I won a copy of this book in a contest and was not exactly looking forward to reading it, since I am not a big fan of YA novels, but this one was good!

It is not your typical young adult novel. There is no teenage angst, no teenage love triangles. The story at times is sad and intense and Etta is an amazing heroine. She is strong, sweet, damaged and delightful. Rahovart is a complex hero with his multifaceted personality.

The emotions in this book are strong and entertaining. Etta and Rahovart develop a deep connection with each other and I was very interested in the outcome of their interactions. The supporting cast was as well developed as the main characters and I was completely surprised by the ending.

If you like young adult novels, try this one. You won’t be disappointed.

This amazing freelance writer has been sent from “heaven” above! One of the very first male point-of-view books that I absolutely could not put down. The emotional turmoil that Ra—our demon protagonist—went through, the heart-warming connection between the beast he’d become and a young high school girl tormented by her ability to see his kind, and the countless action-packed twists and turns this novella spun me through have left me completely breathless and panting for the next book in the series—The Human Side. This paranormal thriller is a MUST READ, and in my opinion, safe for a mature young adult audience (a little bit of language and sexual innuendos, but nothing too bad). The novella had everything; despair, regret, pain, love, and redemption. The stories I like the most are those that take a very human story. A story of pain and relationships and then weave the paranormal into it perfectly. What I took away from this reading is that there is a fine line between good and evil. I think the characters walked that line flawlessly.

Heaven was able to make the story delightfully funny in an evil way and yet sadly tragic at the same time. I thought it was well done, and it makes me able to say I look forward to whatever she writes next. I recommend this as an excellent and believable escape from reality.

Heaven Leigh Eldeen has written a heart wrenching, tender, brilliant, wonderful, magnificent story!! A girl who sees demons and the demon who remembers who he really is because of her. It doesn't get better than this. I loved every single sentence. I started reading and figured it would be a good book to take to the tub everyday but after spending two hours getting all pruny I came to the conclusion that my life would have to be put on hold until I finished The Demon Side. This book is brilliant!!!

I won this book from the arthur YAY! I am in agreement with the other reviewers. This book is brilliant, it enthralled me from beginning to end. Etta's family moves into a new home. She see's and hears instantly that the house is already occupied by a demon. Her family thinks she's schizophrenic. Her father is on the brink of mental breakdown, but truly loves his family and fights for them all. Etta is strong, brilliant and determined 18 year old heroine. I really loved this book, it was an intense read with ups and downs and a great beginning of this series.

I enjoy books that challenge our spirituality to make us stronger in our faith. Heaven takes us inside one tortured teenage mind. I felt compassion for the struggling young girl attempting to make sense of her world.
The story kept me engaged from start to finish and I enjoyed the tension of the battles between the angels and the demons. Although the angels are the "good guys", they had to persevere through the dark underworld to try to save her young soul.
I will definitely read more this upcoming author has to offer.

**Four and a half stars**

The book started out a little bit rocky, voice-wise and I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy it much. But around the second chapter, the author pulls it together nicely and really delivers a story you can't put down. Stuffed full of twists and turns, I wasn't always sure what to expect next. Even when a plot point was predictable, she still found a way to take that predictability and surprise you with it. The end was the biggest surprise and one I definitely didn't see coming, but wow all the same.

I had the opportunity to read both of these books back to back, so I am going to give you my thoughts on the two of them together. You can read on down for more individual information and excerpts from each book.

I actually liked The Demon Side, Book One better than The Human Side, Book Two. In The Demon Side, we meet the demon, Rahovart the Heir, who has been living in this house, or I should say, whatever dwelling was on this property, for centuries. He cannot remember much of anything prior to waking up on the banks of a river, close to where he now resides. He has spent his existence tormenting whomever happens to be the latest tenants.

Then he meets Etta. She seems like a harmless teenage girl, and he thinks it will be easy to get the latest family to leave -- that is, until Etta actually speaks to him and tells him to please get out of her way. Whhaaattt?? She can see him? Where Rahovart was interested in getting them to leave before, now he wants to get to know her better and learn why she can see him!

I am not sure why this book appealed to me more than book two did. Maybe because it was sort of like a Beauty and the Beast beginning? I thought that Book 2 would be Etta's perspective, but it turns out that Rahovart gets sent back to earth as a human to try to get Etta to remember the feelings that they had for each other.

They were both quick reads but I did get a little confused at times with the different hierarchies in the demon and angel worlds. That soon sorted itself out though. I am wondering if there is going to be a third book called The Angel Side?

What if a demon felt emotion, at least something other than hate? What if a girl who shouldn't relate to him suddenly finds a soul within the soulless creature? This is the story of a young girl who has been traumatized in life but can still see the good inside the demon that occupies her house.

Okay, I have to say that this was such a unique plot that I just had to read it. Well, I was not disappointed. In fact, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this story. This is more than a paranormal story. This is more than a romance. This is a very deep story that is about the soul and redemption. It is one that I could easily see book clubs reading and enjoying.

The characters were very well developed and real. Even though many were demons and angels, they were believable within a fiction story. I could relate and see myself in every scene. Extremely well-done.

There are some rather dark topics discussed and hinted. This is not a book for the young, yet it is not something I'd strongly warn you about. Just be prepared for topics of possession, rape, and more in this book yet full of love, forgiveness, and so much good.

If you like paranormal stories that are more than the mainstream that will have you thinking of the book and talking about it long afterwards, this is the book for you.

Note: I was given this book as part of a book tour with no expectation of a positive review.

The Demon Side (The Demon Side #1)
by Heaven Liegh Eldeen

A home haunted by a demon that has driven some to murder. The newest owners are A Father, an Alcoholic Mother, a Teen Girl with mental problems. This should be easy for Rahovart aka Ra to get them out of his house either by leaving or dying he doesn't care. But Etta the teen girl is more then Ra would have thunk!
Etta can see Ra, she shouldn't tho. This intrigues Ra, he becomes a roomie to Etta, so he can figure out what is going on. Etta does not want some creepy old demon watching her in her room. She is very vocal in this! Ra can enter peoples minds to get information, you know just the basics like what scares them the most. With Etta he can only get glimpses and those glimpses unnerve even him. Soon the house is filled with another Demon and Angels. The Fighting can now begin!

I won this book! I am so thankful, other wise I would have missed out on a Fantastic read! Talk about an author giving the reader their all, with this author you can tell she pored her heart and soul into this book. I received this book to give an honest review.

Man on man this was one story I did not want to put down. I actually found myself slowing my reading down so I would not finish as fast as I normally would.

Here you have this demon who terrorizes family whenever they come to his home. (You are reading his P.O.V. in this story.) Until one day the family that moves in well the girl can actually see him and is not scared of him. She sees Demons and for that her family is completely messed up. Her stepmother drinks (which you find out later why) her dad is trying to hold the family together as best as he can, and Etta well she is suppose to take pills to help her not "see" the demons. No one believes her when she says they are real.

Etta has dealt with a demon before and he is not willing to let her go he has plans for her. But Ra and Etta end up falling for each other and she gives Ra hope that maybe he could be good. She also helps him remember how he became a demon.
Etta is the only girl that good and evil are fighting she is the one that can tip the scales in favor for good or evil.

What will become of Etta and Ra's relationship? Could they ever be a couple? What exactly are the plans that Etta is in the middle of? If you are looking for a demon type book, with angels and a fight for good and evil you have to give this book a read.

First person perspective from a demon's point of view. I found this a wonderful story.

The character's of the demon Ra and Etta, Etta's parents, the demon Alastor, and the arch angels were well written. Ra did some truly horrific things, but the author handled the writing of him in such a way that the reader is empathetic and interested instead of repulsed. Etta might have the appearance of a teen girl, but she's as strong and good as they come. Is she strong enough to convince Ra that there is good in him?

The angel/demon world that Heaven Eldeen created was fascinating. The intricacies were revealed a little at a time so as not to be pedantic reading. Her exploration into the demon side of things before later showing us the angelic side was very much part of the unraveling of the plot. The plot was very well written with the mystery of why Etta was drawing demonic attention, why Ra had no memories beyond being left alone on earth, and lastly what the antagonism beyond the obvious was between he and Michael the angel. The final great battle was thrilling and the denouement was fitting.

It's a shorter novella length tale and a clean read.

This is not your average demon tale. And I am not sorry about that at all. From the little I knew about this book starting it I wasnt sure what to expect. I was happily surprised by what I found. This is a great story from a new author that I cant wait to read more from.

This is a story about demons, angels and a girl who can see them. We have mystery, action, paranormal and a touch of romance. Ra who is our main character is not your typical demon. Yes he works for the evil side and is supposed to encourage people to be bad so they end up in Hell. But you really get a feeling he just doesnt care. His origins as a demon as mysterious as well. He has this history that he doesnt quite remember. And we get to discover this history with him. We also get to see him interact with another demon, angels and the humans that have moved into his house.

The story moves at a quick pace and you dont want to put it down once you start. It is completely unexpected and the ending was fantastic and completely surprising. I seriously can not wait to see what we get next from the author.

Absolutely the best book I have read this year, and I have read quite a few. To start with the premise of the book is intriguing and the writing flows so perfectly. Each page building on top of the other and I immediately fell into the characters so deeply that I wouldn't move for anything. I was transported into the story and became completely spellbound. The authors attention to detail, research, and accuracy made each aspect of discovery even more intriguing. Ra made me laugh and cry while I lived through his eyes. Etta is a doll and one of the strongest characters I have read about in a long time. The struggle between good and evil on the outside brings action and suspense to the book but what is more fascinating to me is the struggle of good and evil within Ra. I hit the jackpot with this story, from beginning to end it is great. I only hope that if you are reading this review you will get this book and then come back after you read it and tell me if I am wrong, you won't be able to. It really is a book to read. Best of 2012 in my humble opinion.

Etta and her father move into a house where a demon, Rahovart is trapped. Etta can see demons and her family thinks she is mentally ill. Etta is being tormented by a different demon. Rahovart first tries to scare the family to leave but finds it difficult since Etta can see and hear him. He becomes sympathetic to Etta's plight. I thought this was a very well written, fast read. The demon, Rahovart strangely enough cares for Etta. I found the characters really intriguing. I was compelled to keep reading to find out more about Rahovart.

Alright I have to say this is a first for me. I have never read a story quit like this one. The human & demon world that Ms. Liegh Eldeen created was fascinating. I found it to be so compelling and somewhat sinister. This was a story about finding redemption in the unlikeliest of places, and finding love against all odds. The author did such a good job entwining the lives of the characters. I'm looking forward to see where this series goes!
