The bit where they struggle to learn how to ski then give up and decide it's stupid and resent all the people who are good at skiing made me feel really seen, lol.
I love how Ryuuji has gained enough confidence throughout this story to be able to whine at Taiga and demand an explanation for her absence by the beginning of this book. I think a few books ago, he would have just taken whatever mean thing she said to heart and went off to sulk on his own (although it's been established that Taiga easily crumbles in front of his sadface all the way back in the culture festival arc.)
Another amazing thing is how he's come to the realization that people like and respect him now, although he still doesn't understand that they actually consider him a catch. I love how Noto and Haruta are completely incredulous over the idea that he could be rejected and are like "if I was a girl, I would totally date you" and he just brushes it off as them being weird and jokey.
I think what I'm getting at is that I seem to love protagonists with low self esteem. I always knew I don't like stuck up douches but I thought I like moderation, not the opposite end of the spectrum, lol

Wow, what an ending! This is a major turning point in the story. Can’t wait to see how everything gets resolved before the end...

* If you’re reading the manga (currently only 9 volumes are out, so it’s unfinished), chapter 4 of this light novel, is a great place to continue reading the story. Although, I do recommend reading all of the previous volumes of the light novel because there’s so much detail and even whole scenes missing from the manga.

The ski-trip arc is the turning point! Despite the snow, things are heating up!

I'm so excited to see how the last two volumes align with the anime!

The much awaited school trip to Okinawa becomes a ski trip, which in itself is not too bad, despite their initial grumbling. Unresolved romantic feelings between various members of the group lead to unexpected friction. While the story is still interesting, there is much less comedy (and very little of the over-the-top stuff of earlier volumes) and much more drama. Great for character development even when it comes with the dense MC trope (although a couple of the side characters are rather dense as well) with a few eye roll moments.

We're approaching the endgame here and, since things always need to get bad before they can get better, wow this volume is a heartbreaker. Takemiya-sensei understands teen angst and heartbreak incredibly well.
