The Guardians are going to the beach. They can't wait for the sand, sun, and, of course cut lifeguards. But their vacation soon takes a different turn. A visit with Yan Lin in Canracar reveals a new threat against the Guardians. Nerissa, an ancient guardian, has tunred evil and is set to take her revenge on the five Guardians. The girls must find a way to stop her devious plan...before it's too late.
Ah, W.I.T.C.H. So much of my childhood was spend obsessing over the series. The books. The comics. The cartoon. The merchandise. You name it I was into it.
So why only the three stars if I loved it so much?
Well as time went by, I grew disinterested in the series. I went along with it mainly to see how it ended. I simply wanted to know what the final outcome was.
Surely that is not enough to merit three stars? You loved it!
I did, but that was because I was a pre-teen with very low expectations. This came before my vampire-loving period, so you can imagine what my standard was like. Don’t get me wrong, they’re not bad books – they’re simply not something I can go back to now that I’m older.
Thoroughly enjoyable at the time, but not quite so much now.
The Path of Revenge Will, Irnma, Taranee, Hay Lin, and Cornelia take a vacation to the beach. With the help of her powers Irma decides to help Cornelia learn how to swim. As they bask in the sun the conversation turns to Will’s date with Matt. Matt took will to a swanky restaurant and then forgot his wallet. So, then Will suggest a place with reasonable food “The Chinese Dragon” (which is their hang out). Matt is embarrassed and thinks Wil won’t want to see him again, but she tells him she really likes him and wants to continue to see him. Her friends crack up and then Will wishes she’d never told them. Cornelia tho realizes by looking at Will that she’s in love.
Will reminisces about telling Matt how special he is and how she never felt that way about any other boy. Irama asks did he kiss her and did he ask her to be his girlfriend. Will says they just ate their burgers and talked all night. Irma says she let him slip through her fingers and when they get back, he won’t even know her. Will thought the date went great but then she starts to second guess it. But then she thinks Irma doesn’t know what she’s talking about. She waits for her phone to ring to prove Irma wrong but it doesn’t. Cornelia breaks up the tension by saying they should all get some ice cream. Irma asks Will is she mad at her but she says no (even though she doesn’t know). She decides to just forget about Matt and just relax. Then maybe she’s just not ready to have a boyfriend. Still, it’s normal to worry right? That doesn’t mean she shouldn’t continue to go out with Matt. Then she starts to think about how emotions can screw you up and then there’s her secret identity. But she can’t keep it from him. She tells herself she just needs to think things over but she doesn’t have to come to a decision *right* then.
Will falls asleep and hears a voice that asks her what’s weighing her down. It says it’s an old friend that wants to “help” her and asks for her heart. (In the dream she’s swimming). The unknown peron demands to have the heart, The person drags her underneath. Then Taranee wakes her up from the nightmare. There’s a strange, purple, shape on her hand. It’s a circle and arc and a chain that looks like the Heart of Candracar. She tells her friends she thinks it’s a message. Someone wants the heart and she has to stop them. They transform and are taken to the Oracle.
Just as Hay-Lin hopes they’re greeted by her grandma. She looks at the design on Will’s hand and confirms it’s true. The Oracle said it would happen. She saw Nyrissa has returned. She says she’s an ancient evil that she thought was conquered. She said once she was the one who had to remain all evil traces of her and now it’s up to them. They look at Will’s hand and the mark is now gone. Now tho it’s on her grandmother’s palm. She tells her pain never completely leaves. Tho it may be erased. Then she tells them to follow her and jumps into one of the relecting pools. She takes them into her “Crypt of Memories”. Each is in a gold stopper. Some are tarnished. She starts to tell them about Nyrissa who represents Kandracar’s darkest hour. She and Yan Lin were the best of friends. She oncewas the keeper of the heart. There were five chosen ones. One day Nyrissa decided to use the heart for dark reasons and was consumed. The others tried to stop her, but Cassidy (one of the guardians) died because of it. So, Nyrissa was sent away and sealed up in stone. But now she’s escaped. They learn hat because they reunited it was what brought her back.
Nerissa notices Hay Lin and tells her dog that she will strike her first and leave the guardian of the heart for last. Even though her magic was stripped she’s not gotten new powers and she uses it to transform the dog into a massive man. She makes sure no traces of her magic will be found. She names him “The Destroyer”. W.I.T.C.H now back from Kandracar notice bad weather approaching. At Irma’s vation home, WITCH tries to take their mind off Nerissa by playing a board game, but the weather gets worse and when Cornela looks out the window it’s pitch-black outside. Nerissa watches as Keyar terrorizes a couple at camp with hhis axes. Then she watches as the campers run back to camp and tell the (camp conselor?) there’s man out (in the woods) with an ax. There’s a panic and they go to call the authorities. Then she sees WITCH and Will but she tells Keyar not to attack them this night through telekinesis. She tells him to find a place to stay for the night and wait.
WITCH talk about what the campers said and debate if it’s true. Wil decides to just let it go for now. She’s on vacation. But she can’t help thinking about Matt and things will ever go back to the way they were. Not shortly after police shows up and tells them everything is under control and he has people looking into the situation. Another detective contradicts him and says he hasn’t even combed the area. He says the water will have washed away any of the clues. The detective that contradicted him says maybe if he would have gotten there earlier, but he just brushes it off. Will decides that they need to get to the bottom of it.
Will asks Cornelia to use her powers but when she tries she’s tangled in vines. She continues to reach out to the earth and they start to tell her their story. Eventually they show her the monster and a dark cave. He has a shield that she’s seen before. Then the vision ends. Cornelia tells the others they can’t go to the police and then she recognizes the symbol as one Nerissa had.
They decide to go to the beach the next day thinking that the monster won’t bother then there in the day time. They talk it over and don’t come up with a plan. Irma just wants to push it to the side and continue on with their vacation. Will is happy. Matt starts to text her again. Irma admits her frustration to her freiends and what’s really bothering her that not only did she just want to get away from being a Guardian for a minute , she doesn’t want her mother and brother involved. So, that night they all decide to take shifts to be on the look out for Keya or Nerissa. Hay Lin thinks she’s having a dream later of a snake with glowing red eyes. It tells her she will be the first She tries to yell for help but the snake vanishes and when she wakes up she’s staring at her friends. Somehow she tells WITCH she knows it was Nerissa.
The weather gets chilly and they head back for the cabin. Then Hay Lin starts to sink in quick sand. Will rushes to the hole and grabs Hay Lin while Cornelia grabs Will’s ankles. Hay Lin says “But today is a new day”. They’re able to pull Hay Lin back up. Will and Cornelia jump into the hole and see something blue covered in the sand after Hay Lin says something is down there and grabbed her ankle. It turns out to be a tunnel. Made of glass. Then they hear a thump and see a man who warns them to get out of there. Cornelia decides they’ll have to come back later. The police show up and ask that everyone clear the area.
When they sneak out later, they hear the police telling everyone it’s ok. Will knows they know more than there saying. Still, they tell everyone a section of the beach will be closed down. Will hears Detective Hamilton saying what he saw in the hole might be the strangest thing he’s seen and he’ll have to call in back up. Even though two cops are guarding the tunnel, Cornelia says there’s an underwater passage they can use. They reach Nerissa’s cove but she’s not there.
My Thoughts: If the ending of this review got a little (wrong) it’s because I had it read aloud on Open Library and unfortunately it doesn’t read comics well. The endings of these (the last pages) are always in comic format. I got the gist of it well enough (I think) but I do have the comics in Kindle if I have to go back and correct it. I know I did a lot of these chapter books reviews. Nerissa is an intriguing addition. I’m curious about what she plans to do with the heart of Kandracar if she should ever get I I’m also fascinated by her power to “dream walk” and use her dreams torture. That’s a pretty wicked ability to have! I could sympathize with Irma just needing some time away from it all. I’m not even a Guardian and I’ve been feeling like that A LOT lately!
Rating: 5 and a half.

Nesmím zapomenout ani na Elyon, i když udělala pár nesprávných rozhodnutí, samozřejmě i další důležité postavy : Věštce, Caleba, Joela, Orube, Cedrika, Matta, Luka, Erica, babičku Hay Lin.... Rozhodně to byla má nejoblíbenější dětská série, at už komixy nebo seriál. Doporučuji všem mladším slečnám. ;)
This was an interesting read, the girls are back together and they are learning to work as a team once again. With a new enemy Nerissa. She was an old Guardian that went bad and because of what Luba did she was set free. The girls are on vacation and they are trying to enjoy it while this new evil awakes. Their was lots of growth of these characters and the story fantastic. This was a brilliant re-read and very enjoyable.
Nerissa is such an interesting villain. The fact that the previous guardians have a part in the story has always been one of my favourites. Also, we rarely get female villains so heck yeah.
Great continuation of the chapter book series. With new plot beginning and new characters. Same about of suspense and importance of friendship in the book.
I like this book because of all of the action. A fun, relaxed trip to the beach takes an exciting turn into something, well, not so relaxed for Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin. They are the guardians of the veil, and they created the name, W.I.T.C.H. using the initials of each girl's name. All W.I.T.C.H. books are amazingly awesome and great. But in this book, we meet Nerissa, and the introduction of her character gives the book even more action. There is nothing I didn't like about this book.
I used to like these series. Now, I don't think they're so good anymore. I got up to number 12 or something like that, and they've gone up to #26 or something... and they're still coming out!! I'm not really interested into them anymore, but I used to be.
I loved this series! All of the different girls had their own individual personalities that made the series more enjoyable to read. Also, of course the cool magical powers was a plus. I loved the character relationships and adventures the girls got themselves into.
