In this enchantingly out-of-this-world romance, two set-in-their-ways soul mates discover that true love exists...but sometimes it just needs a little extra help.
eh. like most romances it was clear from page 2 who would end up together and there was very little tension getting there. The secondary couple was much more interesting and their courtship was too. The conceit of the angel trying to get a promotion has been done before and better.
Ms.McCoy just recently passed away. I am sad to say that I am not aware if I've ever read anything written by her til now. I liked the premise behind this story, one in a series of books about couples being brought together by angels, just like the title suggests. I'm not exactly sure where this book lies in the proper order of the books, but the blurb was one which caught my fancy, so I picked it up.
Take one straight laced and prim school principal and put her in a hot, tight, red dress. Then put her up for auction at a bachelor's auction ti help raise money for her school. This is Honoria. Then you've got the handsome, mega wealthy, and suave guy who can't believe he's just offered $20,00o on Honoria. And also somehow agreed to a bet in which he beds her in the week they're away or has to give a $120,000 donation to Honoria's school. This is Alex. They're two unlikely souls who are meant for each other but don't know it. It's Junior's responsibility to get the two together in 9 days so he can get his "wings" and become a full time guardian angel. Does Junior get his wings? Does Alex win the bet? Will Honoria loosen up and live a little? Read the book to find out!
First off, what's with the name? Hahaha. Really, I think there are thousand other names that could have been used than Honoria. Or maybe it was used to go with the headmistress idea. There had been fun parts, yes, but I think there had been some that were over the top - like the gun pointing and the bathroom mess. And I also don't get why Alex, now that he is able and independent, didn't do anything about his disability. Humiliation? Thinking it's too late? But, if it's me and I could afford it, why not do something about it?
Oh well, I wonder if I should try another of her books and maybe I'd like it more...
This was my first Judi McCoy - she has since made it big with her dogwalker mysteries, but I thought it was rather nicely done. It's a contemporary romance with a bit of divine intervention, much like It's a Wonderful Life, which is always a comforting vibe for me. Still, while the hero had plenty of hangups, the heroine's conflict just wasn't there for me - which made the 180 to 'I'm betrayed' and the next 180 to 'I forgive you' all too abrupt (and it literally happened within just a few pages of each other.) Still, this was an early work for her, so I may persist with this author.
Nothing special. Light reading. I've liked some of her other books much better. A gimicky plot and predictable plot twists. If you like guardian angel storylines, Debbie Macomber has done it better.
This was okay for me. I had a little struggle getting through it. It started rough as I was not sure if I liked the main characters. It did pick up a little.
