This might’ve been a big deal in 1989-90, but now there’s just not that much to it beyond some vivid descriptions of shady bureaucracy and dystopian chaos—it doesn’t really explain WHY the USSR would devolve into chaos if Communism fell, but I guess it’s a matter of IYKYK.

A well-written time-travel dystopia - of course dystopia feels like documentary these days...I enjoyed this. Not my usual reading fare, glad I picked it up.

Moscow barely exists in a riotous, violent chaos - no food, no housing, no work -- only guns and suspicion. Really good

Standard dystopia fare. Well written and interesting in a historical context, this is an easy and enjoyable read.
