Nora Roberts is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of more than 200 novels, including Hideaway, Under Currents, Come Sundown, The Awakening, Legacy, and coming in November 2021 -- The Becoming -- the second book in The Dragon Heart Legacy. She is also the author of the futuristic suspense In Death series written under the pen name J.D. Robb. There are more than 500 million copies of her books in print.
"Megan's Mate" is the story of Megan and Nathaniel.
This book has our heroine returning to the town she has shamed out of leaving with her son in tow. Years ago, she had been cheated and wrongfully seduced by evil dbag OM, who later turns out to be married to Suzanna Calhoun, and the heroine moves away from the town to become a mother and a successful accountant. She returns to be a part of the Calhoun household, find her roots again, reunite with her family and soon finds love in our hero- who is instantly enchanted by her. Not put off by her wary and cold attitude, he relentlessly pursues the heroine until she gives in, falling in love with both her and her son- while the evil OM tries to break them apart. The hero and heroine were likable characters with a sweet burn between them, and I'm glad they found each other.
Good read with a satisfactory end to a long kept secret, which is finally unveiled.
This is another book in the Calhoun series. Written so that I want there to be lots more Calhouns that she can write about. I know there are a few more in the series. Definitely wan to read them.
I am not a great fan of the star-crossed lovers and love at the first sight ideas and, as long as I love all books by Nora Roberts, I prefer her later ones. But this one is quite good for a category romance written in 90s.
There is not much to write about this book. It is very short, so the romance part is definitely undeveloped. I wish Nate and Megan have more time to get to know each other. But the characters are really likeable. I have already read some other books in this series, so I know the background characters. It was nice to meet them again. And I like the MC.
It is an average but a nice book. I would give it 2.5 stars.
Technically neither Megan nor Nathaniel are Calhouns, I like the storytelling ---- simple yet entertaining because of all the other characters whom you've already gotten to know in the other books in this series, they are all here.
This final installment in the series was much more romance than mystery. At this point, the mystery of what happened to Bianca has been solved, her emeralds have been recovered, and the hotel has been finished and is opened. Megan, who is not a Calhoun sister, but a sister-in-law, and whose son shares a father with Suzanna’s children, has come to join the family and work at the hotel. This book tells her love story, with a few problems with her son’s father thrown in. It was a good epilogue to the series, as we get to see how each of the Calhoun matches have turned out.
Classic Nora Roberts. Wonderful characters, an engaging story and detailed descriptions, this time about boats. Megan joins the Calhoun family after her brother Sloan marries Amanda. This is despite the creepy fact that she had been an innocent 17 year old when she was seduced by Suzanna's ex, then her fiancee, left pregnant and gave birth to their son Kevin, while he was off on his honeymoon with Suzanne. She and Kevin and welcomed with open arms by the family and she take sup the position of accountant for the Towers Retreat and also Holt's boat busness. When Holt's partner, Bar Harbor native Nathaniel Fury sees her, he is a goner. But v=can he convince her to let go of all her hurts and fears and open her heart to another man?
A perfect end to the Calhouns family. This book was mostly romance and I adored it.
Megan, Kevin and Nate make an amazing family. I loved that this book was set an year after and the other sisters all had babies 😍
I saw the chemistry between Coco and Dutch from the beginning 😌 The arguing was hilarious as well as the scene when Nate and Dutch both came out of their respective women's rooms 🤣🤣
I was disappointed that Bax hadn't died yet but it was great to see him beat up again. Sloan didn't get a chance to do that though ☹️😂
The magic was so convincing and absolutely perfect in all the books. The ending was fitting 💙
I enjoyed this book as much as the others even if the mystery and the thief had ended in the previous one. Megan is a troubled woman.. and who could blame her after what she's been through? She had a bad experience at 17, the phase where a girl starts to become a woman. However, her bad experience gave her a gift, her son. And I would say it gave her 2 gifts, the other being Nate. Everything in a life leads somewhere and the things in her life, well, led her to him. As for Nate, he had an abusive father but that didn't stop him from becoming a good person and "a perfect guy". "Somewhere in these pages he says "Sometimes a wind comes up, blows you off course. You're not ready for it, but if you're lucky, you end up in a more interesting place than you'd planned" and he is totally right. I am very fond of Fury's character.
It is a beautiful book that I certainly loved and I had a good laugh when Colleen appeared at the hotel, when she talked "privately" to Meg while the others were at the door and especially when Nate took care of Bax. It is true that I hate Bax but if he didn't pass by every now and then, how else could he be hit by Holt and Nate? haha... and the way that Holt watched Nate teaching Bax a lesson was a very pretty moment, especially that he had been there before. Destiny, fate, magic and love, all mixed together and you get the perfect book.
Did anyone notice that Nathaniel in this book and Michael (in the third book of the Dream trilogy) have the same last name, FURY? Well I don't know if there's a link somewhere but both characters had a violent father. Nate's father used to hit him and Mike's father used to hit his wife. The Dream trilogy also involves a treasure hunt, cliffs and a single mother. However, I still think that both series are pretty good.
Author: Nora Roberts First published: 1996 Length: ~200 pages Setting: Contemporary, 1990s. Mount Desert Island off the coast of Maine. Sex: Explicit. Hero: ex-Merchant Sailor now co-owner of boat shop Heroine: Accountant
Very much an addendum to the series, visiting with the new babies, seeing the relationships carrying on, tying up all the loose ends. Nicely paced and an easy romance.
The fifth and last book of the Calhoun sisters. The whole book was like an epilogue, you found out how the other marriages had worked out. The book is full of babies and happy stories about The Resort (smartly named "The Resort", oh my...). This book is about Megan, who is a sister-in-law, and her meeting the charismatic Nathaniel. And, no, it didn´t work for me. It was tedious and very predictable. A pity really, because I liked the earlier books. Could be that the mystery story with finding the emeralds was over so this was more a straight forward bland romance.
Not sure how Ms. Roberts uses her formula for siblings finding their mates over and over again. Yet each time, it still is endearing to me. I enjoyed this one. I think it's because Ms. Robert's siblings shows the good and some of the bad, yet at the end the family loyalty and unity wins. This is a fantasy I enjoy and wish could have happened for me. In the Calhouns, Megan who is related by marriage is still included in the "club". Nick was an okay guy and I'm glad they had their happily ever after.
I wasn't going to read this, because I wasn't particularly enamoured by Megan when we met her in one of the previous books, plus the mystery of the emeralds had already been solved.
But then I did. Call it unwillingness to leave a series unfinished, or just having no idea what to start next, but in any case, aunt Colleen showed up again which made this into a 2-star read. Everything else just failed to keep my attention for very long.
Megan O'Riley and Nathaniel Fury's story. This the final book of the Calhoun series. Megan is Sloan O'Riley's sister. Sloan is married to Amanda Calhoun. She comes to join the family and be the Tower's Retreat's accountant. She meets Holt Bradford's friend and partner, Nathaniel Fury. Sparks fly.
The Calhoun ladies rally around Megan who was left pregnant by the lout Suzanna had married. She moves to the island and finds love with a sea faring hero. Sweet and I like the way the author tied up the loose ends of the series - but once again - these men are magical because Megan was in love within days of meeting her man.
2.5 stars, rounded down because of the secondary romance (she is far too good for that misogynistic, arrogant creep, imo). The first romance was okay, but I can't help but feel that in a effort to tie up this story to the original series, Ms Roberts tried too hard and tripped over the treads of her writing.
Typical romance. Not too much mystery is this book. Any one else notice that Dumont's side wasn't finished? Aunt Colleen said she was going to do something about him and then it never stated what happened to him. The rest of the stories seem to come full circle but that part.
The last book in the Calhouns series, though this one focused on Megan and Nate, who are on the periphery of the Calhoun family. Megan had come up in the series before, but Nate hasn't. The mystery of this book is Megan deciphering Fergus' journal and explore more about what he thought, especially about Bianca.
I enjoyed this book. It did really feel like it was an add-on to the main four sisters, but I liked how it was all sorted. Coco's romance was okay (Dutch and Nate running into each other in the morning after made me laugh) but introducing Dutch and Nate at this late stage did add to the feeling that this book was more added on. That said, I did really appreciate seeing Kevin integrate with the Calhouns, and the scene between Nate and him near the end of the book was done so well (I really appreciated that the final conflict had to do with .
This was one of the more forgettable books in the series but I did appreciate it as a closer.
When choosing this book at a used bookstore, I had no idea it was part of a series (in fact, the last book of the series). I did not find out until after I had read it. But it makes a great stand-alone story. I had trouble at the beginning trying to keep all the characters straight (which husband belonged to which wife, which kids belonged to who). So, I now see that starting the series with Book 1 would have been beneficial. I actually had to make a flow chart of the who’s who of characters! The more familiar I became with the characters, the better the story got. Strong Calhoun women welcome a basic stranger, who has an odd family connection to them, into their community of family and friends. I enjoyed it as a stand-alone once I got the characters straightened out. It might be beneficial to read previous books in the series, although not totally necessary. Another great Nora Roberts experience!
Megan O'Riley learned early that there are bastards in the world when Baxter Dumont seduced her when she was seventeen and then left her pregnant while he went on his honeymoon with another woman. Years later, her brother falls in love with the wife's (Suzanna) sister and Megan and her son, Kevin, are brought into the Calhoun orbit. Since Megan and Suzanna are both classy ladies, they are thinking it would be a good idea for the half-siblings to grow up together. Also invited to the Calhoun family is Suzanna's husband's business partner, Nathan Fury. Nate had a hard time growing up so he understands that family can be made not just by blood but by love and Megan and Kevin might just complete his. Not as in depth on the relationship building, this was an okay book but almost felt like an epilogue to the rest of the series.
