Ascent To Hacker is it just a dream; or is it your future?
Charlene's worried if she'll have a future, not what it may hold. Violence until death seems a most likely outcome. Currently healing from her many battles; Charlene is surprised by what may be a way to survive. Does this hacker really offer a small chance of escape?
Maybe human rights hacktivism is in her future. Probably not. Is it foolish to trust someone because he remembers how to laugh?
This is one of the free books on Kindle that is actually worth some real money! My favorite thing about the book is the post-apocalyptic world the author paints... a world where most books have been lost due to converting all books to electronic form... sound familiar? In this world, once a certain book had come out all a powerful person has to do is press a button and the book is deleted... permanently.
I liked the characters and the main plot - reclaiming the lost knowledge by hacking - I'm looking forward to more!
I dl'd it because it was free and I am always interested to see how technology is portrayed in fiction. I gave it 3 stars but I think I would give it 4 if there was a little more filled in. However, I enjoyed the seeds of what was put out there. I see that it is a prequel to a trilogy so I might have to check that out for more story and details. Overall, I found it pretty interesting and I kept wanting to know what would happen next.
I think to really enjoy this book you must have to read the others in the series. I think it was meant to be a prequel, but there was quite a bit that was confusing and not explained at all. I can't recommend it if you haven't read the others.
This started out pretty good with a girl in learning how to defend herself in juvenile detention. Then it got weird and all sci-fi. It lost me going way over my head. I had no desire to finish it, but if you are into sci-fi, you may find this book enjoyable.
