Sunday Brunch: The Best of Zits Sundays

Rate this book
In their immensely popular comic strip Zits, Pulitzer Prize-winning artist Jim Borgman and writer Jerry Scott have succeeded in creating one of the most poignant, realistic and funny portrayals of teenagers found in any medium today. This book features the best Sunday strips.

Belly up to the buffet . . . it's time for a Sunday Brunch. Inside this immense all-you-can-read hardcover, close to 300 of the best and most popular full-color Sunday strips are presented along with annotations, essays, and original sketches by Zits creators Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman.

Parents themselves, Borgman and Scott have learned a thing or two about living with and parenting teenagers. Lauded by the Los Angeles Times "as one of the freshest and most imaginative strips," and designated as Best Newspaper Comic Strip twice by the National Cartoonists Society, Scott and Borgman's Zits offers shared experience on both sides of the generation gap.

Inside Sunday Brunch, sixteen-year-old Jeremy, the son of parentals Connie and Walt, grapples with the latest trends, confronts hot-button issues ranging from sex and impending career choices, and tackles lighter topics such as sleep schedules and appetite cravings. Next Sunday, sleep a little later and make your pancakes and mimosa even more enjoyable with Zits Sunday Brunch.

I have a soft spot for this comic strip, and seeing a huge (255 page) collection of the Sunday strips in all their full-color glory is exactly the kind of comfort reading that I need to get through dental work. This strip is not only funny, but it can be sweet as well. Really looking forward to going through the treasuries and re-living the best moments!

As expected, 'Sunday Brunch: The Best of Zits Sundays' was a fun and lighthearted read from start to finish. There was so much to enjoy about it - Jeremy being a typical teenager (his lack of verbal communication, his messy room, his eating habits, etc), Jeremy's parents struggling to understand him and Jeremy's friends.

The comments from the creators were interesting and funny while simultaneously providing insight on where they derived inspiration from or simply their thoughts on certain matters. The illustrations and text for every strip were on point. I especially liked how the size of Jeremy's sneakers was deliberately exaggerated.

Overall, 'Sunday Brunch: The Best of Zits Sundays' truly showcased the best of Zits through one hilarious strip after another.

Having read Zits for years, I decided to buy and read all of the books in the series and I am really enjoying it! This volume, which collects the Sunday Zits strips, may well be one of the best Zits collections ever! Large, oversize format, and every strip in well reproduced color! Because these strips were written for Sunday newspapers, there is no loss of continuity. Almost every page will bring a smile and a laugh! Great to read on a summer deck or screened porch. Anyone who likes Zits will love this collection!

I love Zits. Probably because it started when I too was a teenager so I totally related to Jeremy, and probably a little more so to Sara. I remember my mother loving it too, as the parent of a teenager haha.

This was a lovely collection just of Sunday strips. Included were snippets from the creators, Jim Borgman and Jerry Scott, on how they make the cartoons and come up with the ideas, etc. The best part of the book, though, were the vignettes from other cartoonists on how the comics influenced them as children and how they came to be cartoonists.

A great collection for Zits lovers, and comic strip lovers in general.

What can I say about this book? As with all the Zits books, it's funny. It's ridiculous, sometime crude, but always entertaining to read, especially when you don't want to have to think about what you're reading. I've read a few of these Zits books and all are amusing. Some comics are repeated in this one and found in others, but no big deal.
Need a light read? Want to snicker and laugh? May I suggest Sunday Brunch: The Best of Zits sundays?

As a mother of a tween son, I couldn't appreciate this book more. I have never read any of the Zits comics, but after this book, I realize I have been missing some good stuff. Highly recommend for any parent out there (or tween or teen) who understands the insufferable thing that is living with family. Too cute and lol funny.

I've loved ZITS for many years. It's the teen version of BABY BLUES as far as I'm concerned. This "brunch" does not disappoint. I identify mostly with Mom and Dad of course, but there's a little bit of Jeremy still left in me! I remember my youngest son saying to me that I reminded him of the Mom, even in looks, which was an amazing coincidence since he reminded me a lot of Jeremy :D

A fun book. Sprinkled through out are stories from comic strip creators sharing their memories of reading the Sunday funnies growing up. I really enjoyed those as well as the insight into the different strips that you get from the commentary.

I am a huge fan of Baby Blues and Zits. It helps me to laugh as I am the mother of teens and it helps to realize someone else goes through this insanity
