Lauri Robinson's chosen genre to write is Western historical, and when asked why, she says, "Because I know I wasn't the only girl who wanted to grow up and marry Little Joe Cartwright."

With a degree in early childhood education, Lauri has spent three decades working in the non-profit field for Head Start, Child Abuse Intervention, the March of Dimes, and United Way. She claims the once upon a time and happily ever after premise of romance novels has always been a form of stress relief. When her husband suggested she write one, she took the challenge and has loved every minute of the journey.

Lauri lives in rural Minnesota, where she and her husband spend every spare moment with their three grown sons and their families, which includes three granddaughters, two stepgrandsons and two granddogs. She volunteers for several organizations, including her local library, and spends most fall weekends filling the freezer with homemade foodstuffs from the bountiful harvest of her husband's green thumb. She's a diehard Elvis fan (yes, she's been to Graceland), and loves to spend Sundays watching NASCAR, either live or on TV. However, she says her favorite weekends are spent in the woods of northern Minnesota on the land homesteaded by her great-grandfather.

Most of her childhood was spent in western Kansas, which is the setting for several of her stories. Lauri is a member of RWA, Northern Lights Writers, and Hearts Through History Romance Writers, as well as several online writing groups. She writes for Harlequin, Mills and Boon and The Wild Rose Press.

Eva Robertson and Bug Quinter’s young love, so pure and true, has been put on hold for three years. Both Eva and Bug have grown up. Now each fears they have grown apart during the hiatus. Bug has done well in the oil business that he loves and wants to start his own business. During the three years he has been gone from Kansas, Eva has become a world renowned artist with the help of her agent, who sees to her every need, and a lawyer who watches over her business. She is no longer the shy girl living in a soddy on the Kansas prairie.

All of the Quinter men and their brides have intriguing, attention-holding stories, but Bug and Eva’s story has a special twist with Ma Quinter and her shotgun. Ma has a unique understanding of human nature and emotions that often elude others. She, along with all the Quinters--blood kin and chosen kin--rally to the cause when any one of them needs assistance. Humor, love, work, and a “can-do” attitude radiates from the mighty army they become when they join forces.

Bug fears he has left things too long when he sees how Jack Houston, Eva’s agent, anticipates and takes care of Eva’s needs. Eva’s heart quakes when she sees pretty, blonde Jenny Staples possessively clinging to Bug’s arm. Eva soon learns Jenny is used to getting what she wants and is not concerned about who gets hurt in the process.

Other characters like the three orphans, Tucker, Reed, and Heather that Bug meets on the Orphan Train and Chester Staples, Jenny’s father, add an undercurrent of “what-is-going-to-happen?” that simmers while other conflicts and obstacles thwart Eva and Bug’s getting back together. However, the uniqueness of Bug and Eva’s story as compared to the other Quinter Bride stories makes Wildcat Bride a compelling, heart-touching story about young love that matures to a richness while holding on to the special joys of first love and friendship. Their love encompasses so many others. It makes the heart happy.

Lauri Robinson creates stories that bubble with life as the characters deal with adversities and rise above them, then move on to be instrumental in the great things happening during the historical time in which the story is set. Wildcat Bride gives a low key but powerful picture of how the oil industry started to flourish in nineteenth century America. The historical references give a strong sense of time and place as they are subtly tucked into the needs, hopes, and dreams of Bug and Eva.

If you have not read the other Quinter Bride stories, Wildcat Bride is a great one to start with then work backward. They take the reader back to the nineteenth century--a robust, energetic time when all things seemed possible, especially when loves like the Quinter men and their brides’ have undergirds the efforts.

Wildcat Bride is good reading.

WILDCAT BRIDE by Lauri Robinson is a great read for fans of western historicals. While it's not ‘wildly' passionate, this 5th installment in the Quinter Brides series is a lovely story.

Bug (Brett) Quinter is shocked and excited to see the love of his life in New York City. Eva Robertson has left the small town in Kansas to finally debut her work as an artist. Their meeting ignites old flames and new feelings, but also reoccurring doubts. He was the man who promised to come back in six months for her and instead has been absent for three years. Now Eva questions whether or not he still loves her and Bug questions the same feelings from her.

Determined to marry her, Bug tries to convince her that he still loves her, but realizes she has run away back to Kansas. Now he is on the chase, but encountering a few problems along the way. His boss's daughter has fallen in love with Bug and is determined to keep him in New York to marry him. Back in Kansas, Eva realizes she has to find the wildcat within in order to fight for and win the man she loves.

A charming tale about first loves, WILDCAT BRIDE is a western novel with a lot of heart. Well written and entertaining, Ms Robinson creates a leading man and lady that will make you smile. Bug has a big heart and warm personality, which makes his ‘take charge' personality absolutely charming. Eva is the quiet and shy young girl that blossoms into a strong and independent woman. Sometimes she's misguided, but she does her best to find her own way. At times her second thoughts and doubts became just a tad bit annoying. It took her some time to find her initiative, and eventually she came out of her shell.

Fans of westerns with large families will love WILDCAT BRIDE. I read this 5th book in the Quinter Brides series without having read the first four books and enjoyed it as a stand alone novel. Most, if not all, of the secondary characters are from the Quinter family and previous novels. So some may feel that reading the previous novels is necessary. I had quite a few laughs at my first introduction to the family and all it's crazy personalities.

It's a romance a little on the tame side when it comes to passion. Which wouldn't ordinarily be a problem, but the author does tease the readers into believing something more substantial is in the remaining pages only to be sadly disappointed when it's left out. If readers are looking for that sweet and chaste romance, WILDCAT BRIDE will surely fit the bill. I would have preferred just a little more passion since the novel attempted to go in that direction.

Overall, it was a satisfying story that I enjoyed reading. WILDCAT BRIDE had great characters and two charming leads. The story had interesting plot points, but at the core was a solid romance. I would recommend WILDCAT BRIDE to the reader looking for a sweet, gentle romance with a lovely western setting and fun secondary characters.

I have been reading the Quinter Bride series since the first book, Shotgun Bride came out and Wildcat Bride was on the list of books I was looking forward to in 2011. The wait ended this week when I received a free copy of Wildcat Bride from Wild Rose Press.

There has been a different twist to each book in the series and Wildcat Bride is no exception. Unlike the previous Quinter sons and their brides there will be no shotgun wedding for these two.

I first met Bug and Eva in Shotgun Bride and they have been present in all the previous books. They are in love but have not been together for several years. Bug’s big love is oil and Eva’s is painting. During the last three years Bug has been in Pennsylvania learning the oil business while Eva has become a rising star in the art world with her western theme painting. When they meet in New York sparks fly and not all the good kind. Both return to Kansas and when they try to get married Ma uses her shotgun to prevent their wedding. Both Bug and Eva must adjust to the way each has changed in the last three years. What follows is a wonderful story filled with many different forms of love.

Lauri Robinson writes wonderful romantic stories and Wildcat Bride is no exception. Her well-drawn characters are people you would invite into your homes and your hearts. They face challenges with grace and humor, are loyal to a fault, admit their mistakes and act out of love. The villains get their just desserts and the good guys come out on top.

In some ways I hated to finish the book because Bug was the last Quinter son to find a bride. However, there is a hint of romance for Ma. Will Ma get her own story? I guess I will just have to wait and see.
