Rae’s fragile emotions are becoming unhinged. Lochlann demands she keeps the bond with his brother secret, and the duties of High Priestess threaten to crush her rebellious nature, diminishing her glow. Breandan is her warrior, her light in the dark, but even he cannot hope to protect Rae from her own blood, and the extremes his need to possess her push him to. At odds with his kin, struggling with his own purpose, he fights for his claim on Rae to be honored. Rae must break the irons of doom and embrace her fate. She must become the Priestess demonkind cry out for, and wield magics that are hers by birthright. Or watch from the arms of her love as her Wyld perishes in flames. BrE.

Amazing!

That was my exact thought when I finished this latest book in the Rae Wilder series. Fantasy is not my thing, but Penelope Fletcher makes it work in a dystopian setting with effortless flair. Again, she paints vivid scenes with beautifully descriptive wording and creates a world that sucks you in and keeps you trapped.

I really enjoyed this book immensely.

WHAT I LIKED

The Lead Character - Rae made more sense in this book. Her personality didn't take any wild swings that just didn't jive with pre-established characteristics, and even though she does some crazy stuff it all made sense. Also, her evolution seemed much smoother and not so hasty. She's such a fun character to begin with and in this latest book she was a rock solid. I really loved the little brat in this one.

The Supporting Cast - I seriously love all the supporting characters. Even the added character of Daphene worked really well. Each character has a distinct personality and has an important niche in Rae's world. Conversations and scenarios surrounding the supporting cast always feel real and very fluid. I really, really loved all of them.

The Villain - I think one of the problems in the first two books was that there was never a clear villain until toward the end of the second one. We had the clerics, but they never felt like they solidified into the big bad (which they weren't). The Big Bad makes himself very apparent and he works on all levels. He's everything you need in a villain: psychotic, powerful, mesmerizing, slightly sympathetic, and a whole lot of scary.

The Plot - The plot around Rae seemed to always zig-zag in odd directions, especially in the second book. But that changed in the middle of the second book and holds throughout this one. The storyline was rock solid in this one. It worked on every level.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE

THE INSTA-LOVE - At one point our lovers admit that they know nothing about each other at all. They're willing to live and die for one another, but they really have yet to fully discover who the other person really is. They love each other because of a magical bond that basically has stolen all their free will when it comes to making the life choice of a partner. The two characters are once again swept away and lost in the plot and their connection continued to feel forced.

(Weirdly, another case of insta-love (or insta-attraction) between a vampire and fairy actually worked a lot better. I believed in it instantly and was rooting for the couple.)

THE MALE LEAD - I know he's beautiful. But..that's...kinda...it.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

AMAZING! I loved it. I really did. I wish the first two books had the same pacing and clarity as this one. This series is GOOD. Have no doubts about that. I do recommend it to people who love fantasy. I also recommend it to people who enjoy the magical love element of Insta-Love. I realize that scenario works well with some readers. It's just not my thing.

Penelope Fletcher is such a good writer. She does know how to build an amazing world, create fantastic characters, and write killer action scene. I do think an editor could help her shape her narrative into a stronger one, but that doesn't detract from her vivid imagination.

I'm ready for the next book in the series!

Note: The author uses British spellings in the book. These are not misspellings.

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!

I rarely get that "punched in the gut" feeling from books, but OMG! This punched me in the gut, and then apologized and MEANT IT!

Demon Dark was a SUPER fabulous read! The 3rd installment of this series is THE BEST by far! Don't get me wrong, the first 2 were amazing, but Demon Dark, pulled out all of the stops!

Thank you Penelope Fletcher for this!

THANK YOU!!!!!

This is the third book in the series and I really enjoyed it. It plunges straight back in to the story, the first page of this book continuing where book two finished. The reader is therefore plunged straight in to a fast paced chase scene! Once more Rae is forced to buck stereotypes as the apparent "bad guys" help her and she finds that she can't always trust the people that she loves! The story continues with enough twists and turns to keep the reader reluctant to put the book down. The reader is drawn in to a world of humans, faeries, shape-shifters, witches and vampires. The story is highly emotional as it explores romantic and familial love, individual, tribe and even species loyalty. I enjoyed the way that the author explores relationships, their complexities and nuances. The fast paced action literally fills virtually every page of the book, as Rae rushes from one conflict to the next, insecure, unsure but ultimately acting on pure instinct. The ending of the book took me totally by surprise and I stared at the page numbly at the unexpected twist. I will be purchasing the sequel Demon Boy (available in the Summer) as soon as I am able to pre-order it!

This is the 3rd in the series & I believe the 4th (Demon Boy) will be the last of this series. I still really like the story line from 1 & 2 and am looking forward to see how Penelope is going to end the series. Demon Dark took a different direction then I thought it ever would at the end of this book........The fight scenes are always intense & I like that it was not all THEY LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER ending. Not everyone will survive a war & that is exactly what this is, a war between 3 groups really. Humans, witches, & everyone else. Rae learns a great deal more about her family in this continuation of the story. She will learn more about the He-Witch & why he is so hell bent on destroying everything & everyone. She will face the tribe in the Wyld & have to convince them to follow her & her plan to unite the races. Rae will have to be strong & stand up for herself & her faery mate if they are to fight for their home. It was a good read & always held my interest.

**SPOILER**

How many books have you read, written in first person, that allows the main character (who is telling the story) to die at the end? Even in Twilight, Meyer switches to a different characters point of view. I was surprised. So Rae leaves us. Of course, like all well written sagas, things happen as they must. Not always a happy ending, but not all is lost, as long as there are brave characters who will do what they must to save their world. Will they be brave enough to bring Rae back to us? Or will Breandan learn to survive a different way through their bond? Keep writing, Ms Fletcher, we're all eagerly awaiting the answer! Well done.

Just like the first two books, this one follows as another awesome and exciting adventure. I love Rae and I feel for her as she struggles to find her way in a life she she is just barely understanding. She nvere asked to be put in the situations she finds her self but she does her best to deal with it. She finds out some hard facts in this book and copes the only way she knows how. My heart breaks for her and everyone she loves. I happy to see there will be another book in this series (Demon Boy) since ther was no way it could just end the way it did. Summer 2012 is awfully far away, lets hope by some small chance it geta here fast.

I am still reading this. I have been reading it for some time. I still love the characters but I'm finding the storyline to be a bit draining. I can only read for short periods of time, and I'm having more and more trouble getting back to it. I will finish it... I have to find out what happens, but I doubt I will read the next book in the series. I have never "quit" a series before, so I will probably eventually read the books that follow. I loved the first book so much...I will keep you posted.

Finished recently. Took forever, but it was worth it. Good story, but I'm done with the series. She has changed the names of all the books too.

This series has such a raw intensity to it that drags you under without any warning! Penelope Fletcher, you are an absolutely amazing author that brought the characters, the settings and the feelings to life! I am anxious and desperate for Demon Boy because I know that it will be just as amazingly intense as the rest! I NEED to know what happens!

This is the third book in a four book series. The action in this book takes a very serious turn. There are a couple of elements in this third installment of the story that took me by surprise. I appreciated the twists because they felt right even if they weren't the expected path to the typically anticipated happy ending. I moved immediately into the fourth book because I couldn't wait to find out how the story resolved.

Cliffhanger

I am looking forward to seeing where book 4 goes Rae sacrifices herself and then they want to bring her back that does not bode well. These books are in way about family the ones we find the ones we make and the ones we leave behind

The ending to this.. oh my. Midway through I was unsure if I was getting bored of the storyline that follows on from books 1 and 2, but with a bit of perseverance I was gripped again and i’m so glad i carried on! Well done Penelope Fletcher. Fantastic 3 books so far

This book picked up right where the last book ended and it was fantastic! The author has such a way with words that pulls you in so you can really picture in your mind with is happening. I really understood how Rae felt. She was born given a birthright she only finds out about when she is older. Never brought up to know about it, but taught to hate and fight against who she was because she did not know the truth. After finding out the truth that changes her whole life and thoughts, one of the biggest shocks anyone can handle, she is thrown into a role she has no clue how to fulfill, yet she does the best she can. Each book she grows more and more, becomes more and more who she is suppose to be while being thrown so many heart wrenching things her way.

She fought for peace for everyone, even the ones who hurt her the most. They even fought her up until the end of the book. Her own people who fought to find her for years did not open their eyes and see they really did have a great priestess in front of them. Even they turned their backs on her thinking she was always doing the wrong things, but if you go back and really think about what happened was not her fault. A lot was because of knowledge they kept from her!

In the end she was the perfect priestess and no one stopped long enough to see this with their own eyes. She felt she did everything wrong, when in fact she did what was right given what was thrown in front of her. The humans hated her and tormented her, the vampires also caused her much pain. The weres thought she was trouble and her own people cast her out! Yet she did not want to fight and kill any of them, she saw how they all needed each other and wanted peace with them all. She tried to get them all to listen, and fought to save them all.

This book was the best out of all three. I cannot wait to read the next one! There is so many ways this can go and I want to know so bad which way the story turns. With her feeling nothing but failure with everything she has done, not feeling accepted and cast aside and rejected. If everyone just stopped and saw the true power in front of them before it was too late....

The bond is broken, the misunderstanding filled with hurt, the feeling of failure the sacrifice! A being that has feelings and connections is not something a God can really be. There are reasons why the gods dont walk the earth, hell they don't even answer anymore except for their own purposes. What would happen if a God was brought physically to their world? Given all that power, without having the feelings of a living being? It is everyone's fault things turned out they way they did, not Rae's. She handled what was thrown at her without knowing the real truth about any of it, yet she was the only one who fought for peace and understanding for everything, even the worst ones. Now I am afraid they are all going to make the biggest mistake EVER, because they realized too late she was perfect the way she was. Rae can never be who she was before, she is no longer that person but I think they will find that out too late....GOD I cannot wait for the next book!!!!!

Confession 1: The first three Rae Wilder novels were the first independently published e-books I'd ever read.

Confession 2: Up until then, I was pretty much oblivious to the rise in the indie e-book market. As an aspiring author, working on my book Chasing Pavements, I should have been hyper-aware of this new trend in the market. Even worse is the fact that it was a friend of mine, one who hardly reads books (well, most of my friends hardly read books!), that alerted me to this exciting avenue available to unsigned writers. Very poor form on my part!

I won't be too harsh on myself though - Chasing Pavements wasn't a planned project and until I started writing it, I hadn't been in author-mode for years.

Anyway, the year was 2012, the month March, my manuscript for Chasing Pavements constantly being edited and re-edited, when I became aware of how easy it had become to self-publish. After some Google searches, I came across e-book distributor Smashwords. I can't remember exactly how, but I think I stumbled upon Demon Girl (now renamed Glamour) by indie author Penelope Fletcher through one of the searches on the site - perhaps on the first page of the highest-rated free e-books chart? The book cover (since been updated) and synopsis grabbed me and the favourable reviews on the book page enticed me to download the book.

From the very first chapter, the book had me hooked! And after the introduction of the vampire, I knew there was no turning back - I was going to read the entire series! The author creates the kind of world you want to jump into, and introduces characters that you instantly develop a connection to. I finished it in two and half days and wished it was longer! I would have liked to have spent a bit more time with Rae at Temple, learned more about her day-to-day life as a Disciple before discovering her real identity and destiny.

The story continues in book two, Compel (previously Demon Day), and is probably my favourite out of the first three novels. With so many supernatural creatures in the mix, we really were spoiled! The author explores these intriguing species in detail and doesn’t brush past them in order to focus on the main characters, so you are not left wondering about their roots and origins. When I finished the third book Enchant, (previously Demon Dark), I couldn’t believe that I had to wait for another book to find out how Rae's story ends. At the same time, Rae is one of those characters, and this is one of those series that you don’t mind having the story extended.

60% of this novel could have been cut out. I've never seen a series that is so damn repetitive, WE DO NOT NEED THINGS TO BE EXPLAINED SEVERAL TIMES A BOOK. We are not stupid. I have a love/hate relationship with Rae, she proved to be brave and selfless in the end but she was damn irritating getting there. And I'm sorry but Loch & Daphne...it doesn't just happen like that. It wasn't even that simple for Rae & Tomas. Would have liked to have learnt a little more about the fairy world...Fletcher touched upon it when they were travelling to the wall with Gunarr, but no luck, back to the same old crap afterwards. Oh & also, Samuel may be a good guy but that particular scene just by the wall was a tad ridiculous. Also, curious as to Runts whereabouts and the fate of the rest of the Goblin horde & the fairy who assisted him...Anyway, it was somewhat enjoyable, but I feel that what could possibly have been an amazing series is constantly let down by repetitive description, drawn out inner monologues and poor bloody editing. Get someone to read your work Fletcher! Then get another person & yet another! It really does take from the readers enjoyment of the story. Roll on the fourth & final book...who will die now everything is so damn tidy and sweet and lovely? Also; poor Wasp. Only she can suffer eh?!

First, I’ll mention that my Kindle edition of this third installment to this series is titled: Enchant; it seems maybe the author changed her mind at later editions. Anyway, once again, could not put the book down! (Well, I had to at times, lol), but the book continues beautifully from the 2nd. Rae finally has to confront the others at the Meet, where other shifters, fairies, and weres come together and have to face some tough choices regarding the upcoming war between the Humans and them. I could not believe the way the ‘others’ treated Rae in regards to letting her fight for them; they actually shunned her and asked her to leave; well not in those exact words, but still! After all she’s gone through and done for them. And even after that decision is made. . .she still ends up fighting on their side when they get attacked by the Clerics! This fight did bring a loss I was sad to read about; and it gets tougher as I read further into the book. It definitely made me teary-eyed at the end! And . . .ends in a cliffhanger.. sorta. Can’t wait ‘til the next one. (I hope it doesn’t end just like that…and you readers know what Im talking about) =)

Penelope Fletcher wrote another great book! I love to read about Rae and Breandan's story. It never gets old. Penelope really has a way with her words and it is so easy to get caught up in her work. I can't praise her enough.

I definitely did not see what was coming at the end of this book though! I almost couldn't finish it, but I couldn't put it down either! It definitely left me in suspense for the next book to come!

If anything, the only downfall would be that I wish this book was a little longer like the first two in the series. However, with such a short time span between the release of the second and third book (plus the other books she continues to write) I can understand her reasoning. Hopefully, the fourth installment will be longer. I just can't get enough! I hate to even see it end!

Thanks so much Penelope! You truly have a gift!

In the beginning of the book I was very critical of it. I think it had to do with reading a review that sounded as if thing would end how I personally did not want them to end. What I should of done was read this without my "tainted" thoughts. I loved this book, I loved how the author wove the story, and I love how it ended. I could only hope this series goes on forever like some of thos murder mystery books that are out there right now (insert eye roll here). This was one of those books that I was thinking about for days after I finished it and wished the next portion of the story was available NOW! All I can say with certainty is that you should start from the beginning (Demon girl) and read the whole series. Loved it!

This one was better but STILL had chapter/break issues and her spelling... SMELT is NOT the past tense of SMELL!!! Ugh! Make sure your children pay attention in grade school!

It also kind of makes me crazy how there NEVER was any cross-species dating and now all of the sudden one being looks at another and they are love-struck! -- except that there is no explanation about this, just that it is unacceptable. I know, I know... Love at first sight and this is a fantasy story but give me a break! They haven't even had a conversation and now they're meant to be forever?!... It's happened to four couples now. It's a bit unrealistic -- even for a fantasy story.

I just don't know... To read Book 4 or not to read Book 4? That is the question.

It just gets better and better...I loved it , I knew I would...I was broken hearted and cryed my eyes out in the last part of this book, but I can't wait to see what this new and upcoming author Miss Fletcher has in store for the 4th book in this series. I would recommend this to all of my friends age 15-and beyond. It is an engaging tail about a girl who finds out she really is something unique instead of being a the person that just wasn't like everyone else...and really rises to the level of something great...Would give more indepth description, but I don't want to ruin it for everyone I hate that!

So, I really loved book 1. I liked all the characters, the world they lived in, everything. Then book 2 felt completely and totally rushed, it read like a bad 1st rough draft, where thoughts were all over the place. However, since I liked the 1st book so much I decided to give the 3rd book a chance and I was once again happy. Breandan is my favorite character, I love everything about him. There were some good twists in this book, the ending was definitely not something I expected but definitely left me eagerly waiting for the next book.

Oh my Gosh!! This series is EXCELLENT!! Edge of my seat action! Now that I've plowed through the first 3 books, I have to wait until summer 2012 to read the 4th (and hopefully NOT last) book.

I grabbed the first book on a whim, offered as a freebie on Amazon for Kindle...and swiftly went back to Amazon and bought the other two books that were out.

Penelope is an amazing author, and I look forward to reading anything she has written!!!

Great series, didn't expect to get so hooked but I have and the ending of this book was soooo good I can't believe I have to wait a few months to see what happens. Great writing and character that I was able to fall in love with. Also enjoyed the twists and suprises that I did not see coming. Looking forward to the next book!!

I was very excited when this book came out. I absolutely love the characters. It was a quick read (only 200ish pgs) I couldn't put it down. My only issue is that the next book is not due to be released until some time in summer 2012. With the way this book ends (cried) I am anxiously awaiting the conclusion.

While I loved the ending, I found the rest of the book just dragged on and on! Always in trouble, never where she should be, I am tired of Rae. Also-the typos and spelling errors were overwhelming. I would be more forgiving with the quality if it were free, but since it cost me money, I feel like running a grammar program isn't too much to ask.
