Hi there! I am a writer of gay furry fiction--but you probably know that if you've seen my book listing here. I live in California with my husband Kit, and when I'm not writing, we like to go out to eat and watch movies. We travel a lot, too, mostly around the West Coast, but occasionally to the midwest and east.
I blog at http://www.kyellgold.com/wpblog about upcoming travel plans, upcoming books and news, general writing principles, gay rights, and whatever else seems interesting. And I co-host a podcast, called "Unsheathed," where we talk about the craft of writing and the furry fandom, sometimes at the same time.
If you have a question about any of the books, check the FAQ on my website and then ask away! :)
The latest story in the Argaea series, it is an all new adventure by the talented Kyell Gold.
Based in the Argaea setting Kyell has developed, it is the latest installment in that world’s story, following a new character, Coryn, a wolf farmer.
The main characters of this story are Coryn, a young wolf struggling to get over an adventurous night in the city, and Two Claws, a rat ex-thief seeking a new path.
On a trip to the city with his father, young Coryn snuck into the Great Cathedral in the city of Divalia. The adventure left him in debt for five long years. Returning to the city in an effort to put it all behind him, he gets more than he bargained for.
With every book Kyell Gold reminds me why he won 13 Ursa Major awards before taking himself out of the running for future editions. He manages every time to craft a fantastic, well written tale in which the twists and turns always catch me by surprise as I am so engrossed in the tale being told I almost never see them coming. Crafting a fantastic story in this world he built, it is yet another wonderful example of furry writing.
The protagonist is very likeable, and indeed the entire cast is well fleshed out. The story moves at a good pace, with twists and reversals coming at the right times. The sex is never extraneous, always placed well with just enough detail to be interesting. The power dynamic between a lot of the characters is played well, and it was yet another masterpiece by a really good furry author.
I must admit that whenever I read a Kyell book I like to take my time, because he really managed to surprise me more than once while reading, and a few lines hit me right in the feels. I mean, the impact of a few words is just so powerful. It’s one of the reasons I enjoy stories, both reading and writing them.
If there’s every any doubt that words have power, read a Kyell Gold book, and especially this one. A standalone adventure, it’s a good story with a great tale to tell.
A solid addition to the Series (copied from my Amazon Review)
I did not purchase this edition from Amazon, but from the Bad Dog Books website, simply because I couldn't wait for it to go on sale here.
It's a solid chapter in the series... a tale of a young country wolf who had an adventure in the big city as a young man, made mistakes and ended up both regretting his youthful folly and looking back at it with nostalgia as the last time he was really alive. I could relate, as someone who suspects he's wasted most of his life.
There are some weaknesses... While part of the Argaea series, it doesn't really involve any of the characters from the previous books, which the other volumes do.. mostly revolving around Volle the Fox, some of his relatives and his close friends. *I* don't see it as a real detriment, but some may.
In the same way, it almost stands as a solo book on its own, save that it takes place in the same world, in the same city as the others do. A newcomer to Kyell's writing might be drawn into the series by finding this one, but I think it may have been stronger that way to include *some* appearance of the previous characters.
Return from Divalia is a sweet, coming of age romantic adventure that longtime fans of Kyell Gold will particularly appreciate. Set in the world of the Volle series, but focused on characters from a short side story (conveniently included in this book, in case you missed it or need a refresher), Return from Divalia is both pleasantly familiar and stands well on its own. The experiences of Coryn and his family and friends, mainly farmers and thieves, are so different from nobles like Volle, and I enjoyed getting to see a whole new perspective of a place I've visited before. Coryn goes through a meaningful, relatable transformation as he overcomes guilt from his past mistakes and learns to move on from harmful ideas his father instilled in him. I loved the themes of loyalty to family; karma (Coryn is successful in part because other characters see him act faithfully and honorably, and thus want to help him); and forgiveness. Overall a satisfying read!
