For Ella Eastman, firefighting is life. She’s devoted her body to being the best, but everyone needs a break from reality once in a while. For Morgan Hail, art is life, but she has to make a living. Their lives collide when television fandoms intersect at The Blacktree Comic Palooza. Morgan’s captivating fanart leads to a heated misunderstanding, and a cosplay contest brings these two women together–though only one of them knows the truth. This unlikely pair heats up when their real-world lives collide, but what will happen to their budding romance when Ella reveals her secret identity? And can they find a way to make things work when Ella’s job hits a little too close to home? Conned is a story of love, loss, new beginnings, and fandom.

I appreciated how they initially met, as I have never read a book where people meet at a sci-fi convention that includes cosplay.
This felt almost old-fashioned in a way - refreshing in that the women didn’t immediately have a physical relationship. They got to really know each other first. Lots of emotional vulnerability throughout.
This may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there is definitely a place for sapphic books like this. Ones where the emotional takes precedence over the physical.
I listened to the audiobook version and while narrator Jessie Elwyn had a lovely, soothing voice, I didn’t feel like her delivery added to the story. I would go the written route if you’d like to experience this work.
This was a bit of a weird one for me. I felt like each of the interactions/dates with the MC followed a pattern of one of them traumadumping on the other, being sad about it and worrying that she's sent the other running for the hills, and the other letting them know it hasn't scared her off. Repeat a few times and then skip to the L word, which felt like a bit of a disjointed jump for me.
Also the initial premise and title is about cons and cosplaying but this quickly fades into obscurity as we bring up childhood trauma, deaths being mourned, scarring, and a myriad of other sensitive subjects so it truly felt like a turn into a confusing place for me.
I really enjoyed this book. The character development was spot on for me. You could really see the growth in both these women throughout the story. Whether it was within themselves or with each other. It is a sweet story of love, loss and rebuilding. Looking forwarding to reading more from this author.
Ella, a firefighter, meets Morgan when they are both attending The Blacktree Comic Plaooza. After a slightly intense conversation over Morgan’s fan art at a stall, they meet again and only one of them actually knows they have met before. When Ella finally admits she and Morgan already know one another, it could ruin everything that had been developing between them.
I loved this! As someone who goes to the odd convention, there was a lot at the beginning of this that I could totally relate to. Sharon captured that environment and how fans interact in the most perfect way! The way that Ella and Morgan meet originally was so interesting, especially when life then brought them together outside of that environment. I listened to this as an audiobook, and the story was elevated further by Jessie’s amazing characterisation and delivery of the more emotional and intense scenes throughout.
Being a firefighter, Ella was carrying a lot emotions and under immense pressure every day. She needed outlets to deal with her emotions and she found them in her favourite show, and when attending the rage rooms that Morgan managed. I really felt the weight of what she was carrying and that emotion was poured out perfectly in the audio book, making for some holding of breath moments and a real connection to these characters. Morgan had also had her own personal tragedies relating to fire, and that was what ended up really making them grow closer. They could both share empathy in the impact fire and accidental situations have upon lives. It did contain very sensitive subjects, but they were all relevant to the story and building emotional connection with these characters. Sharon made sure to handle them in the most sensitive and respectful ways.
I really enjoyed this and look forward to reading the next Rage Room romance story!
This book gave me such feel good fuzzies, I couldn’t put it down. Don’t get me wrong, there’s drama and heart ache but most of all, love.
Ella, a firefighter and super-fan of the hit tv show the blasphemers, attends a con dressed to impress as one of her favourite characters. Whilst there, she meets local artist, Morgan. Sparks fly between them but with each having their own trauma, can they make it work?
This dual POV was delicious to read. I love Angelici’s writing style, it’s like falling into butter. It reads so well. The characters are just glorious, deliciously flawed but intriguing and wholesome too. (My favourite kind)
The connection between Ella and Morgan is a slow burn, exploring their attraction on a more emotional level. It’s something that really worked well. Their banter, humour and outright cuteness is adorable to watch.
I loved the serious aspects of this too, written in a way that draws you into their pain and makes you long for their arc to deliver happiness.
As usual, no spoilers, but if you like a bit of geeky enthusiasm, slow burn connection, deeply tragic backstories and a super hot firefighter (with a heart of gold), you HAVE to read this.
Every once in a while I ignore my TBR and just start browsing for a new book through ebook sale lists, hoping to find a treasure. Couldn’t have been happier with this one:
I loved that the story started at a convention. It made my little nerdy heart very happy. On top of that, we get a firefighter and an artist as MCs. What’s not to love about that?
I fell in love with Ella and Morgan quickly, but didn’t predict where their stories would be heading and I really liked this about the book. There were so many little Moments I truly loved about these two. Some made me laugh and others just warmed my heart.
One of my favorite quotes from Ella that stuck with me: “we all have scars, some are just easier to see than others”.
If you are looking for a love story with two very relatable characters, slowly falling in love while healing and a little bit of angst, this is a book for you.
I got the audiobook and I would really recommend it, Jessie Elwyn did a great job. So, 5 Stars for Sharon K. Angelici on a great Story and 5 Stars for Jessie Elwyn for a wonderful Narration.
Thank you Sharon Angelici for this story. The beginning reminds me of going to a Chicago Comic-Con to see Tom Baker, oh what fun it was! This book has wonderful characters who each are recovering from trauma and guilt. I loved getting to know them and see their connection grow. What’s not to love about a 6’ tall strong-as-an-ox firefighter and a scarred but beautiful artist?
I want to thank Jae for doing the free books/giveaways for Pride month. I probably wouldn’t have read this book if I didn’t hear about it from Jae. It was a cute, heart felt, lighthearted book that had me smiling from ear to ear. Now I’m not into cos play or comics or fan art but let me tell you, this book had me opening my eyes to something more than the genre I normally read.
This is a fun well written read that hooks you with you realizing it. The two MCs just work so well, I could have kept reading their story, but alas books end. Proof that digging back through the TBR pile is good reading karma. If you’re here reading this, grab the book, it’s good reading.
Wasn't sure if I would like it at first, followed a style I am not fond of however, I fell in love with the characters. They are wounded women and their journey is tentative and fragile. I loved the gentleness. Good book
Good book with HEA, maybe a little too much. Or was I in a bad mood this morning when I finished the last chapters of this book. Anyway, a very good story about healing wounds and building trust, and obviously love. 4,5 stars
I listened to the whole book in 1 day. I thought that both of them were trauma dumping on each other and because of disclaimers, that one of the main characters was going to die. They don't. Wish it was longer but it isn't.

Ella and Morgan are a fantastic couple. Meeting at a con, participating in a rage room, and falling in love, this Ella and Morgan’s romance. I absolutely loved this story. I cannot wait to read more stories from Sharon K Angelici.
I thought this book was great. It was good how they met and after things just flowed for them. It was a one that they could open up to each other and help each other heal from their past.
This had all the feel of a slow burn romance. I appreciated that the two mains didn’t immediately jump into bed together. They each had serious baggage to deal with and overcome. Looking forward to the sequel!
I don’t have much to say. It was a good book. Not the greatest but good. And I had zero triggers. Slow burn. Ethical main characters without much relationship drama. Boths of their pasts have history and depth and it was kind of sweet actually.
This book is a nice read. Full of romance and action. Thank you Sharon for sharing your words with us. I really enjoyed the characters and their jobs. Awesome
Ella loves dressing in cosplay, its her passion. Not her only passion though, as she is passionate about saving lives as a firefighter. When she meets Morgan at a blasphemers convention dressed as the main character, Morgan is instantly upset because her favorite character died at the end of season 1 or so she thought.
Later they met again and went for drinks while Ella wasn't in costume, and Morgan liked what she saw. They hit it off immediately and it becomes Ella's mission to show Morgan that the show is still great. They build their lives from there on out, and have their HEA even with Ella's job stresses and all.
