A tender addition to the #1 New York Times bestselling Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas, bridging the events of A Court of Wings and Ruin and upcoming audiobooks.
Feyre, Rhysand, and their friends are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the vastly altered world beyond, recovering from the war that changed everything. But Winter Solstice is finally approaching, and with it, the joy of a hard-earned reprieve.
Yet even the festive atmosphere can't keep the shadows of the past from looming. As Feyre navigates her first Winter Solstice as High Lady, her concern for those dearest to her deepens. They have more wounds than she anticipated-scars that will have a far-reaching impact on the future of their court.
A Court of Frost and Starlight explores the far-reaching effects of a devastating war and the fierce love between friends.
Sarah J. Maas is the #1 bestselling author of the Throne of Glass, Court of Thorns and Roses, and Crescent City series. Her books have sold millions of copies and are published in thirty-eight languages. She lives in New York City with her family.
I love how this revolved around solstice and I finished it on solstice 😂 anyways, my experience was slightly better this time around despite the first half still feeling a little boring considering little to nothing happens as I initially read this immediately after ACOWAR last year and expected so much than what was given. However, during this reread I liked it more and saw it as a reprieve from all the war that went on in the last book and appreciated the peace, some moments within the inner circle and calm before the storm hits again in ACOSF lol other than because I switched to the dramatized adaption (which btw was my first audiobook). It made such a difference in being able to connect with it as it enhanced my experience with the little that went on. So for anyone looking to read or reread I highly recommend switching to this and hope it works out for you as well!!
There were other words exchanged that I enjoyed but this one scene and quote definitely stood out to me as you felt the emotion pouring out so I just had to include it.
”I have to create, or it was all for nothing. I have to create, or I will crumple up with despair and never leave my bed. I have to create because I have no other way of voicing this. It is hard and it hurts, but if I were to stop, if I were to let this loom or the spindle go silent... Then there would be no Hope shining in the Void.” — Br (reread) with jessy 🫶🏼 very curious to know how I’ll feel this time around.
Jess, you are indeed delusional if you think we’re finishing the series before the year ends but I’ll be delulu with you ☺️
Drunk Feyre and Cas while doing winter's decorations >>>>>>
Will miss Feyre's and Rhys's voice actors so muchhh😩
Also am I the only one who is bothered that Cassian's and Nesta's chapters were narrated by a different person but their lines were narrated by their voice actors🤔
Don't know how Acosf will be narrated cause it's in third person, but still felt really weird how it was done here 🤷♀️
The first time I read this book was right after I had finished Wings and Ruin for the first time and I gotta say that I was probably being a total masochistic feen because back then this sweet little Winter Solstice book was not enough for me .. I needed more WAR and ACTION and obviously I was out of control lol this is a great book that serves as a bridge from the first 3 books, and into what will be the next trilogy - starting with Nesta's story. I love it!
AOFAS is honestly a little boring, and I don't think it brings much to the table. If you're a serious SJM fan I think this is worth one read through but it can be skipped on any ACOTAR re-reads. This is the first SJM book I've read where I liked it less the second time around, and the first time I liked the graphic audio less than reading the paper version or listening to the standard audio.
Not much happens in this book and if you skip it you don't lose critical context for things that happen in ACOSF. If anything, I think this book does some really heavy handed foreshadowing at a large plot point in ACOSF. If I hadn't read ACOFAS I would have been surprised and excited about that particular plot point but instead I was just anxiously waiting for the news to drop. Other than the heavy handed hinting, the rest of the plot is kind of forgettable.
The graphic audio, for once, actually lowered my enjoyment of this book. There are so many different POVs and they don't announce who is narrating so it got a little confusing at times. What really ruined my enjoyment was Cassian's chapters are not narrated by him, they are narrated by the person who does the intros/outros for each book. I suspect that this is how ACOSF is going to be narrated since that one swaps around between Cassian and Nesta in such an ambiguous way. But regardless, everyone narrating their own chapters except for Cassian really took me out of the story. I feel like that choice was the final nail in the coffin for me never listening to this book again.
I somehow remembered this book completely different. I enjoyed it way more this time around, but maybe because I remember not enjoying it as much so I had really low expectations of it now 🙈.
It was cute, I liked it. I liked that we were starting to get glimpses into Nesta. I'm not the biggest fan of her, but I like the edge about her. I don't like what she's done to Feyre, but I do like that dynamic with Cassian.
I don't htink I'm going to be able to read Silver Flames, I'm going to have to listen to it via Graphic Audio. Cassian's VA is too fucking good and yeah..
I HIGHLY recommend the Graphic Audio for the book, it's great. Fantastic. It's the only reason I'm able to finish this series I think.
A re-read with the Graphic Audio. ACOFAS is so underrated. There is so much character development in this book and I feel like people gloss over it too much.
Things I liked: -character development -Rhys and feyre being soooo married couple core -the scrumdiddiliumptious crumbs of Elriel -cassian and az’s friendship with Feyre -multi POV
Things I didn’t like: -I mean yeah there’s really no plot to this book but I do love that everyone is just chill -why did they have Rhysand on volume level -10 because babe you need to speak up
This is that mandatory Christmas episode of any network television show where no plot development happens, but there’s snowball fights and gift giving.
I might go as far to say this is my favorite in the series because my heart wasn’t shattered a million times like the others LOL. I loved everything about this novella. The multiple POVs is what made this a 5 star read for me. I LOVE LOVE LOVE first person POV so reading from Rhys, Cass, AND Feyre. An actual dream to me
I love how easy this book is. The perfect Christmas Hallmark Movie but make it ACOTAR. It was perfect to get back into during a stressful week of surveys at the hospital. Easy, light, fun 🩵
This is honestly the best voice-acted ACOTAR yet. I felt the music and sound effects were finally not annoying or overwhelming and the voice actors - esp Anthony Palmini - have really hit their stride with their characters. Super looking forward to Silver Flames in June!!
One caveat and the reason I'm not giving this 5 🌟: Despite Colleen being a compelling reader, I was incredibly disappointed that the actors for Mor and Cassian didn't get to read their POV chapters. But it felt incredibly jarring to have Anthony and Melody read for Rhys and Feyre, and then Cassian's chapter to be read by a woman, and mors voice not match. It feels like a strange storytelling decision? But perhaps the voice actors didn't want to read full chapters?
Silver Flames POV is third-person, and I'm reallllyyyy hoping the actors for Cassian and Nesta read for it. Having a narrator - that isn't the same as the MC, like Melody for Feyre - with different voice actors, is likely going to pull readers out of the story.
I read the series two times with the books then again with the audiobooks and now with the graphic audio version it’s my 3rd re-read did I need to do it again? no absolutely not 😂 but I did. I said it once I’ll say it again even if I sound like a record on repeat this is something everyone should hear if you like audiobooks and love the series you won’t be disappointed. However, this one’s my least favorite 😫 I hate saying it… just because I said it that doesn’t mean it’s not good because it is.
The reason being some parts of this one had louder background music which made it hard to hear Rhys clearly also the snowball fight wasn’t the same like it was in the two other versions. I felt it was much shorter in this version which sucks because I had such high hopes for it since everyone has their own voices and the 3rd person's pov wasn’t it for me. Aside from this, I loved everything else about it
Feyre and Cassian’s a whole mood lol this had to be my favorite part with them part with decorating for winter solstice instead they said screw it and drank the night away making Azriel doing his best to save the holiday decorations then says the hell with it and joins them 🤭😆
“To the stars who listen, Feyre.” “To the dreams that are answered, Rhys.” ✨
I still loved listening to this one and do have a soft spot for this little holiday novella, but I wasn’t as invested in the 3rd person narration hence the loss of the star. Interested to see how I feel about it with ACOSF as this was my favourite book of the series…
This was a reread. Originally, the ACOTAR series was a three star read for me overall. The graphic novels have definitely made a difference. They are so well done.
5 - Ummm wow audio/reread wise this has been my favorite book of the series so far. So much more appreciation and I TEARED up at the subtle shift between elain and az eeeppppp
An unnecessary novella to act as an “epilogue” to ACOWAR. Feyre can’t seem to fathom what her sister Nesta might be going through after A GODDAMN WAR and WATCHING THEIR FATHER GET HIS NECK SNAPPED, Rhysand thinks too much with his dick for it to even constitute a sexy scene—I eyerolled so much—and Nesta and Cassian should have been the stars of the show because their scenes were the only salvageable moments. Oh well, I guess that’s what ACOSF is for. The actors in the dramatized audiobook were incredible, as always, but that can’t fix bad writing.
