Rate this book
Can you beat monsters without becoming one?

Despite our best efforts, my devoted monstrous men and I have fallen into the clutches of one of our most powerful enemies. But the demon strikes a deal with me—our safety in exchange for my cooperation in a mysterious scheme.

It turns out he wants me to tap into magical powers more vile than the brutality I've faced from his kind. With my family and the men I’ve fallen for on the line, playing along may be my only chance at survival.

But as we search for a way to win our freedom for good, the danger grows greater by the day. I’m running out of options.

To defeat the villains who want to claim me, will I have to turn into one myself?

I feel like these thoughts are about to be all over the place so bear with me pls

I'm wavering between a 3 star and a 4 star here. This was still good, but it was a lot slower than book 1. The first half was pretty slow and a bit boring, with the exception of some pretty spectacular monster smut scenes (all those monster appendages tho). I was a bit resigned to a 3 star rating UNTIL the very end. I thought the book was going to end with them captured again, but that didn't happen, and it ended in such a damn good way. Holy shit, it broke me a little bit, but in a way where I can't wait to read book 3.

I will say, Eva Chase tends to have the same formula in a lot of her PNR RH series, and it's a formula that I find a little exhausting. She always has her harems make every bad decision possible. For example, in this book, Quinn and her 3 guys just kept making these plans (the fake dead body, the island escape, the sorcerer's house, etc.), and the plans legit NEVER worked. They kept being 100 steps behind all of the villains, getting captured, or being seriously maimed or tortured. It gets tiring to just see them keep losing over and over again. It makes the book/series very cyclical and tiring to read, as well as a bit predictable. I've also seen this in the Shadowblood Souls series. Can't the characters ever just be smart or have a win?

This book was really just Rollick's book. He had the majority of the page-time between all of Quinn's guys, and it's clearly setting up for him joining the harem in the next book. I like Rollick a lot, but it felt a bit uneven in comparison to Quinn's other men's page-time in this book. That said, I kind of like that Quinn and Rollick's relationship is moving super slow. It's refreshing that Quinn actually hates him for most of this book. I feel like in so many reverse harems, the heroine claims to hate one of the heroes while secretly nonstop thinking about how horny she is when she's in the same room as him, but this was successfully avoided here, and it made it better.

I'm going to end with saying that I really love all of the characters in this series. I think Eva Chase does an excellent job of writing characters, which is what has drawn me to reading more of her books. They are so different, but they each have such strong character depth. My heart hurts in different ways for what Torrent, Crag, and Lance have been through and their devotion to Quinn.

I also love the chronic pain/disability representation in this book between both Quinn and Torrent.

Hopefully we will learn more about the villains in book 3 because so far we have learned diddly-squat about who the villains actually are and what their motivations are.

Courted by Beasts is the second installment within The Heart of a Monster series. In this, you are still following the same group of people we met in the first book. Of course, the shadows and monsters get crazier and somewhat stronger. Yet, I wasn't completely on board, or understanding, of the decisions being made.

The only thing that truly kept me going was the sexual tension brewing between Quinn and Rollick. That's pretty much it. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed seeing her with the other guys and getting closer too. I just want her to jump Rollick's bones and soon. The wait is killing me slowly

Other than that, I just want more answers as to why people still want Quinn.

Frustrating. I was not a fan of the last one, but I own the series, so I decided to see if maybe this one was better? It's worse. There are so many things I hate reading in books all mashed into one. Spoiler...ish
After being taken by the Villian of the story, he decides that the only way she is going to learn magic it to... extremely abuse other creatures, and if she doesn't, she will be forced to abuse her RH. It just gets more cringe from there.

3.5 Somewhere along the way this book lost me. It felt too much like a continuation of the first and lost the pizzazz that kept my attention in book one. I was completely taken aback with the abrupt end which seemed to come out of nowhere. I wouldn’t say it’s a cliffy per se, unless of course your definition of a cliffy is wanting to bash the heroine over the head for her holier than though, better to hurt them and set them free attitude. I mean come on Quinn! Are you kidding me? (Personally this is just a trend in romance that’s growing on me in the bad sense. Stop making decisions for others and taking away their choices, it’s not that hard smh) In this case her harem of men are actual flipping monsters and the only true allies she has with powers to defeat the creatures coming after her, but sure outcasting them sounds like a good idea 🤦🏽‍♀️ I’m hoping the magic returns both literally and figuratively in the next book. Also Quinn and Rollick need to either fight or f*ck, the tension between them can be worked out in more ways than one! It was nice to learn a little more about Quinn and why she’s attracting monsters like a beacon. For me it just felt like the book was mostly just them on the run, one fight into the next with very little plot development.

4.3 stars.
This was a bit hard for me to get through.
Mostly that was my mood’s fault. I got distracted and a bit restless about 70% of the way through.

That cliffhanger though.
Fuck, that was rough.
I totally saw it coming, but it still hurt my damn heart.

Im probably going to take a bit of a break from this series, again.
But I will (hopefully) be back to read the third book, when my mood shifts again or I just run out of other things to read. Whichever comes first I guess.
I Do really want to see these characters get their HEA so, most likely, I’ll be back to finish it.
I like it.
I like the smut and the plot and how things are going so far, I’m just not in the mood at the moment.

This one was a little more boring compared to the first. 60% is her being locked in a hotel by Rollick. Interested to see how their romance evolves. The ending was a little sad and I hope it will be resolved shortly.

That ending was brutal!

In Courted by Beasts Quinn is slowly starting to come to grips with her sorcerer powers and with Rollick determined to get her to embrace her powers she starts to be able to control lesser shadow kind beings.
Quinn and her monsters are forced to struck a deal with Rollick for protection, but whilst they are trying to figure out a plan to escape him, Rollick also has his own secret intentions.
Crag is my favourite guy out of the harem. He's so sweet and I loved his interactions with Quinn. He isn't convinced she would love him in his full monster form, but Quinn once again proves that she is in awe of them all regardless of what form they appear in.
I sense that Rollick might become a more permanent member of the harem as we got to read from his POV a couple of times and you can sense he's starting to see Quinn in a new light, but I'm not sure if he can be fully trusted yet.
Prepare yourself for that final chapter as it was brutal and I really hope that all will be well in the next book. Quinn has the world on her shoulders and I hope that they can finally get an advantage over these hideous Shadowkind hunters on their tail.

First off: these covers are amazing. I could hate these books and still want to keep reading just to get those pretty covers.
This book was a little slower than the first one, but the slow build is starting to pay off in spades, and there’s an addition to the crew (maybe permanent?) that I highly approve of. We get some answers and everything is on a timeline, so it is full of movement.
The end is sort of a cliff hanger, but more a dramatic change in direction (that will end terribly).

I’m between a 3 star ⭐️ & 4 ⭐️ but there’s no 1/2’s on goodreads.

I thought it was cool that there’s a crossover from Eva’s Flirting with Monsters series another reverse harem. Sorsha was the main female protagonist in that series with her 4 monsters but it wasn’t them that I recognized right away it was the “Every Mobile”
It’s been a couple years but I remember how funny the vehicle was because it was so silly and always changing.

Okay so back to this book with Quinn, she’s taken to her monster’s bosses hotel in LA and staying in his suit as it warded so the bad guys shouldn’t be able to find her. He’s very kind to her and I think they all misunderstand him, yes he try’s to put doubts in their heads to break them up so Quinn will be his but I think he just expects them to be the same as other humans & monsters he’s met over thousands of years.

Rollick try’s to teach Quinn how to use her new powers, well Quinn and her men double cross him by leading the bad guys to the hotel so she can escape.

Rollick finds them and pretends he’s not injured or upset, but he was too late to stop the squid monster Torrent from getting even more disfigured.

They had gone to the home of some witch/wizards in the hopes that Quinn could get some answers but when she was there the bad guys attacked. Her one shadow monster who has been captured once before was ensnared by the magic again and he tried to kill Quinn & but off half of Torrent’s hand.

They see the monsters killed everyone there but took the 4 year old boy, Quinn feels guilty and wants to get him back.

They sent a false trail to get most of the monsters out of there compound then save the boy. That’s when we meet Sorsha again as Quinn can’t care for a small child, but Sorsha already has a little girl she’s taking care of so they are better prepared.

Then Quinn does something I think Rollick was hoping for she sends her monsters away (using her new magic from her heart) hoping to keep them safe. I wasn’t a big fan of this part

There was some good spice in this book, she even had sex with one of her monsters well he was in his monster form. I think Rollick will become a lover but I hope it’s not without her other mens consent when they are all back together. If she does it well she had sent them away I will not be happy

They thought they could escape from Rollick and protect Quinn by themselves. But when the situation becomes dire, Quinn has to make a quick decision and agree to go with the devil to ensure the trio's safety and her own.

While in captivity, the trio has limited time to be with Quinn and Rollick forces Quinn to learn how to use her power. However, she is one strong-headed person who refuses to embrace her sorcerer's powers. Together with the trio, they devise another plan to escape. But, in the end, perhaps, the best option would be to stay.

The story in this book is more towards self-discovery for the Trio and Quinn. Quinn will learn about the trio's past and her feelings towards each of them, and finally, make a difficult decision to ensure her lovers' safety. The only person's past or motive that has yet to be revealed is Rollick.

It still feels weird that the first thing in Quinn's mind is to protect her newfound allies and not her parents, which in the end, bite her back when Rollick uses her parents to pressure her. Also, I will take that all the events, the discovery thingy, have motivated her, for she suddenly manages to do the one thing Rollick has wanted her to perform.

What will she discover on the other side of the ocean? Will it help her master her power or find out who the real villains are? Is the subsequent story void of the trio? I doubt it tho, but who knows... I just have to keep reading to find out.

I continue to be obsessed with this series! The story keeps taking twists I’m not prepared for and I just love these characters.

This book picks up right where book 1 left off. Quinn finds herself at the mercy of Rollick who she ends up making a deal with to keep her and her men safe…as long as she does what he tells her.

Quinn continues to grow and become this strong, resilient FMC. She doesn’t want to do what Rollick is determined to have her do but she’s doing it to keep everyone safe. She also continues to be devoted to our MMCs which confuses Rollick.

The guys never lose their devotion to Quinn. Everything they’re doing is to get her free. Reading about Torrent and Quinn getting closer as she has with the other two was everything. You hit spots where you just absolutely feel for Lance and Crag and it just solidified that I can’t pick a favorite.

Rollick is our mystery. Is he a bad guy? Is he a good guy that just goes about it wrong? What is his endgame plan for Quinn? Is he going to be added to our harem? I’m so ready to find out more about him in book 3.

This book ended again on a cliffhanger and it killed me. Thank goodness the next one just came out. Definitely get this series, you won’t regret it!

Quinn and her three Shadowkind Torrent, Crag, and Lance have fallen into Demon Rollick's clutches but she has struck a deal with him - their safety for her cooperation. He wants her to tap into the magical powers associated with her new heart following the transplant but she finds what he wants her to do vile but has to play along to keep everyone safe. While they search for a way to free themselves the danger grows greater and it gets more dangerous. To defeat those who want to claim her will she have to turn herself into one of them?

I really enjoyed this story which continued on from the previous one but delved deeper into the threat from those who were killing magicians and gaining power. It was nice to learn more about all three of the Shadowkind as well as Demon Rollick. I think a key factor in their interactions was communication - the Shadowkind were open and honest with Quinn but Rollick was playing his cards close to his chest which backfired on him. I loved Quinn's adventurous spirit and the way that she was determined not to change what and who she is. Clear language that was easy to read and understand. Contains some mature content.

Courted by Beasts by Eva Chase is an urban fantasy romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Amber Lee Connors and Aiden Snow. This is the second book in The Heart of a Monster series.

I love Eva's books! I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I am loving the chemistry between Quinn, Torrent, Lance, and Crag. I am really interested in what will happen with Rollick as the series progresses. I really enjoyed getting all of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

The book ended on an amazing cliffhanger that left me begging for more. I can't wait to dive into the next book in the series Defended by Demons.

Aiden and Amber did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this series if you're looking for an urban fantasy romances, why choose romances, or romantic suspense.

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE HEART OF A MONSTER SERIES AS A WHOLE.

Eva Chase has done it again! The characters, the plot, the suspense, the spice🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️, it was all chefs kiss.🤌🏼 I don’t know what it is about this author and her books. It’s almost like she mixes all the vibes I loved about the paranormal YA books I read in my late teens/early20s with all of the spice and adult content I enjoy in my books now.

It’s been 6 months since I first read Flirting With Monsters. I’ve read it a second time since then and it still crosses my mind at least once a week so when I found out she was coming out with another series within the same universe I just had to dive in. I was NOT disappointed.🖤

I loved Quinn and all of her monsterous men and was very excited to see Sorsha and all of her shadowkind lovers as well. I also enjoyed that one of Quinn’s relationships was more of a slow burn. It kept things even more exciting in the romance department. Not that things aren’t exciting when you have claws, tentacles, and a gargoyle with a rock hard…well you know…😉

This is a must read if you like paranormal fiction, magical adventures, monsterous men, and a brave heroine willing to sacrifice everything to save the world.

Quinn is caught! Rollick has managed to find her, Torrent, Crag, and Lance when they are under attack by shadowkind. Though Crag got her away from the battle, he is hurt and she makes a deal with Rollick to give them all some respite. But she doesn't trust the demon, especially since he is keeping her from her monsters and wants her to learn to use her sorcerer powers. Powers that allow her to control shadowkind. She has ten days before the deal so have to be renegotiated. Then Rollick brings her parents to his hotel, supposedly to "protect"them. She can't see them since they think they won a getaway. Are they hostages to make sure she cooperates? A daring plan helps her escape, but can she really get away from Rollick that easily? Can she keep on allowing her monstrous men to fight the shadowkind she can't?

I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

This is book two of the Heart of a Monster series, and if I'm being completely honest, it's arguably my least favorite. The spicy smut is good, we get a better insight on the fourth male love interest and the things that make him super interesting, however, not a lot of action particularly happened in this book until the very end.
I understand why this book was written the way it was, for the building exposition of the actual plot to the series, but just not enough was going on. I think it would have been better to have gotten more insight from the original trio or even Rollick than what we got. I'm unintentionally nitpicky with this one, but I struggled to get through this book.
I loved the deeper and strengthening relations between the original trio and Quinn, and what Quinn did to them was heartbreaking, but this is still my least favorite of the four books.

Gotta make this quick....book 3 awaits!

First, I absolutely LOVE how the ending to Chosen by Villains (book 1 of this series) and the first line of Courted by Beasts is as seamless as turning a page! As for the rest of the book.....How do I review this without spoilers.....I'm absolutely HOOKED and can't wait to see what's next for Quinn and the 4 monster men in her life! Is her aim and skill going to get better? What about Sorcsha (spelling?) and her crew.....do they come back into play? I still can't really decide which side that crew is totally on other than their own....Aaaannnnyyyyywwwwhhhhooooo I already have the next installment of the series downloaded so I'm heading there now! Happy reading y'all!

3/5

The first 60% of the book dragged so much for me that I had to put it down for a month before I finished it. There was so little of the established harem in there that I didn't really want to read it. I didn't have anything against Rollick, he was an interesting character, but I missed all the other guys and reading about Quinn in the hotel was a bit boring.
I liked the last ~20%, there was action, danger and emotional moments. The ending was so sad. And I was a bit disappointed that our heroes can't do anything well, they plan shit and it always goes wrong. Having Torrent maimed was a choice, doesn't he have enough pain in his life?
Quinn had many stupid moments in this book and I had to remind myself that she was young, because she was pissing me off at times ;)

Phenomenal!

An incredible addition to the monstrous journey started in book 1! There is action, spice, plot twists, and so much more!!

Things I Loved:
-the growth exhibited by Quinn throughout the story! Not only is she growing her power but she’s also growing more conscientious of her decisions and the way they effect everyone around her.
- the addition of Rollick, even if he’s a jerk! He really added to the plot in the best ways!

Things I Would Have Liked to See More of/Done Differently:
-While the Plot didn’t really allow for it, more chapters from the guys POV! They could have added another layer to the story and made it that much more riveting!

I was aching to find out how they were going to get out of the situation at the end of book 1 and couldn't wait to read book 2.

I loved how we got to see more into the relationships that are developing. Each has their own baggage, and I was moved by how they are overcoming it.

Rollick is interesting as we get to see more of him. He seems to have hidden motives and admits to trying to manipulate the situations into his favour. Question is if he is on their side or not.

The ending was wrenching. I am eager to see what happens next.

I received an advanced copy of this story and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Major rollercoaster ending on a ledge

Courted gave me all the feels - from trepidation to fear to anxiety, laughter, and sadness. We’re watching Quinn try to determine what her powers are & how to control them while also trying to outsmart our fav (mostly evil) demon all while falling deeper for her guys. That ending, I was not prepared for and I am hopeful that there’s nothing that can’t be worked out but I’m also curious about the potential for Quinn to have a 4th guy & if/how it’ll work out. I can’t wait for book 3 and I’ve already preordered.

My favorite characters are Lance and Crag. I love the interaction between Quinn and the boys. Not a big fan of torrents personality though. I really want something to happen between Rollick and Quinn so I am continuing the series to see what happens next. This book was not as good as the first, but I am continuing because I really want to see what happens. This book really dragged out. I want to hear more from the males perspective rather than Quinn's. Maybe that just me though. Still giving this a 4 star, but it should really be 3.8. On to the next book.

Thankfully, this picks up right where book 1 left off, because that was intense! I was too caught up in the world-building and action scenes to do anything but strap in and enjoy. So fun!

Monsters, and really ALL the supernaturals.
Betrayal, lies.
Captive vibes.
Set in Florida.
Sorcery training.
Battle scenes.

4 stars.

The adventures continue for Quinn and her monsters and nothing appears as it seems. The more we learn about the storyline, the more we want to know. The secrets, the intrigue, even the chemistry between Quinn and all the Shadowkind men she’s surrounded by…what can I say but Yowza! Just when you think you have it all figured out we get another reveal we weren’t expecting. Can’t wait to see where this goes next!

Courted by Beasts (The Heart of a Monster)Quinn and her boys are caught and she must make a deal is how the story begins and then the fun really begins as nothing is every easy or straightforward for them. Entertaining and fun to read along with plenty of steam, action, surprises and twists. Loved it all and hooked to the end. Had to see what Quinn would face and how she would get herself and her loved ones free.

This book pickes up where book one ended. Quinn. Torrent,Crag ans Lance are left with no choice but to work with the demon Roddick. Roddick is trying to keep the guys way from Quinn, while forcing her to work on her powers. He is keeping secrets from quinn and her men which makes it difficult for them to belive or trust him. this book has to all, steam, romance, danger from hidden enimies and lots of double dealing. FANTASTIC

Shadows over my heart

That ending has definitely cast shadows over my heart. That one hurt, but certainly has me biting my nails to find out how they're going to overcome all this.
Courted by Beasts seemed more somber to me than the first. Just seems like everything Quinn tries only piles on more despair.
There's still action, steam and all the feels, but this book was decidedly darker than the first.
The third book can't come soon enough. 😘
