Marc Tolon Brown is perhaps best known for his series of children's books about Arthur the aardvark, which was turned into an animated television show on PBS. Brown is a three-time Emmy Award winner, for his role on the television show inspired by his books.
He lives on Martha's Vineyard and in New York City with his wife, Laurie Krasny Brown. He has three children, sons Tolon and Tucker, and daughter Eliza. The names of his two sons have been hidden in all of the Arthur books except for one: Arthur's Tooth.
This large board book has lots of great lift-the-flap activities and introduces core concepts related to getting ready for the day, going to school, and learning about numbers and the alphabet. I got this book as a gift from my grandmother as a child, and I enjoyed it and went through it on a regular basis. I pulled it off the shelf recently and enjoyed reading it again. There are so many fun flaps to lift, and there are often unexpected, humorous things behind them.
This book could be used for PK-1 at the beginning of the year to help them with their fears of going to school, or returning to school in a new classroom. Most children are familiar with Arthur and this would give them a familiarity when faced with the change of a new school or going to school for the first time.
great number book and interactive book. children get to compare their days with getting ready for school to the Arthur. This gives them the oppertunity to talk about the process they go through. Couting is big in this book as well, Arthur counts everything at school
The book is very creative and sets a vivid picture of what kids do everyday when they go to school. The version I have was very torn up but after a second read if I find it at a good price I am buying it.
This book would likely be used in a kindergarten or first grade classroom. This would be a good book to read at the beginning of the school year since it deals with some of the nervousness of starting school.
My students absolutely loved this book. They were enthralled by how much and how many objects you could flap open. The excitement glimmered in each child's eyes as to get a turn to open a flap. Bravo!
This is a large lift-the-flap board book. With over 50 flaps in the story, the reader can help Arthur get ready for school, see what everyone brought to show-and-tell by numbers, read Arthur’s favourite story, learn opposites, and play an alphabet game. Fun.
I love the Arthur books! I think this would be an excellent book for young children to begin to read with! I think you could use this book in your classroom for any story time!
