P- 4. A bit slow in the beginning and a bit confusing at the end. Overall enjoyed and followed it though. E- 4.5. Overall really liked the book, parts were a bit too out there for me, especially the clock. A- 5. I love the writing style as usual. The horror especially feels very visceral and like you're there. C- 5. Always love T. K. characters. Maria is my favorite. H- 4. Great story, fairly unique (other than the three tasks thing) and horror was well done.
What can I say about this novel that hasn't already been said? The slow pace and long page count pay off in the moving, detailed, realist prose and narrative. Much of the historical and social context went over my head, and I wish I had read this in a class or guided reading group to fully gasp its intricacies. While it's one of the best books I've read this year, it wasn't one that I always enjoyed reading, thus the slightly docked rating.
I really enjoyed this book. It is a lovely romance story with a (very obvious at leat for me) twist. It is very cute and angsty, will they won't they romance story that spans over 5 years. I also liked the bits of poetry that were sprinkled in. Awesome book to get you out of a reading slump, simple and definitely recommend it if you like the strangers that feel an immediate attraction-to friends-to lovers with a couple of obstacles in between.
just not my cup of tea but I can see why people liked it. personally hated the descriptions of the narrator because they gave of "im not like the other guys" vibe. loved the writing, definitely had some good quotes. ending was so abrupt. felt like it would've been better if it had been longer.
Solid book. Once again, I appreciate realistic relationships and complicated moral dilemmas. I’m not sure the secondary storyline added much to the story, but appreciate what it was attempting.
Compact, small, fun, full of the turns of phrase and narrative voice that Lawrence excels at, but at the same time comparatively nothing more than a fun little story
