Hard Stuff #3

Rate this book
Mijn naam is Holly Hyman.

I've been secretly pining for Alex's story ever since he showed up in book 1. I don't know what it is about him, but I've been drawn to his character from the start. And I love who he ends up paired with. Holly is just perfect for him.

This whole series has been hilarious. The Chortsky family is nutty and I get such a kick out of Alex's parents, Natasha and Boris. Their family dinners that have appeared in each book just makes me laugh.

I listened to the audiobook version and would highly recommend it. The narrators Ava Erikson and Aiden Snow are two of my favorite narrators. They did a fantastic job with this book.

Miss Bell is relatively new author to me. I have not read much of her books. Hard Byte is rom com with Russian touch. I am not familiar with Russian culture, but I have to say, it is very funny. Especially the nickname of Russian names.

I like Holly. She is quirky, nerd, sassy and funny. It is so fun to hear her POV. Especially the wax experience. Alex presence is not dominating the story but it enhance the comedy of the story. The idea of AI sex pleasure is also funny.

I definitely looking forward to Miss Bell next books.

Oh my, I love these stories by Misha Bell.
The characters are always interesting, sometimes quirky, definitely funny. I love a book that I can laugh out loud reading, but still enjoy the story immensely.
That wax scene though was spectacular, loved the snark and the references the characters makes. My family eyed me strangely during that chapter.
I highly recommend reading this series from the beginning, you will not be disappointed.

This was a deliciously sweet and smexy read!

vibes

Holly was one unique heroine with her super quirky ways and her outlook on life in general. I’m all about a nerdy heroine and I found her to be so much fun. Her response to Alex was adorable as were some of her thought processes regarding him.

Finding Prime Numbers to 100 - Maths with Mum

We never get Alex’s point of view until the epilogue, and I would have loved to have some insight into his character. There were some moments that it was clear what was motivating him. He had some times he was obviously possessive and jealous of the thought of sharing her time with any other man and I loved his response and behavior.

This is a fast paced book with some awesome secondary characters. The steam level is not high and it actually has a pretty slow burn to it. But once this couple came together as a couple, they lit up the pages like an inferno. This series just keeps getting better!

A Prime Match Written in the (5) Stars

Hard Byte is exactly what I was looking for in a fun summer read! From Holly’s neurotic love of prime numbers and game plan to take out the new owners of her company to Alex’s obsession with Tetris and getting the girl of his dreams, these two were a PRIME match written in the stars!

I’m so PRIMEd up I’ll be talking code and prime numbers to the point of driving my family crazy! 🤣

Sweet, neurotically funny, Holly wants her VR game to be a form of therapy for sick children in hospital but the current owners of the company could complicate matters and Holly is determined to take them out. What Holly doesn’t factor in this scenario is the attraction she feels for her new boss Alex.

Both Holly and Alex have their idiosyncrasies making them the perfect quirky pair. I love when Alex orders Holly sushi and knows exactly how many to order - of course - a prime number.

This story was a lot of laughs and I love how Vlad, Fanny, Bella, Dragomir, Boris and Natasha all make their appearances.

Curious to know …
Did you all guess 37? Cause I sure did! I read the passage to my hubby and he guessed 99. So I can’t figure it out! Were we led to that number or does Gia, Holly’s sister, actually do magic trickery? Seriously though!

A wonderful read! I love the Chortsky family!!!! ❤️

Holly is developing a VR therapy pet and is worried that now that she has been bought by Morpheus she will no longer get funding for her project. She breaks into Alex’s office to verify that Morpheus is a porn business and to sabotage only to be caught by Alex. He is immediately attracted to her and she is attracted to him. They start to work close together at coding the VR suit that Morpheus is developing and Alex asks Holly to go to his dad’s birthday dinner to keep his mom from setting him up. Holly, drunk, tries to sleep with Alex but is shot down and she decides that it is better to keep their relationship professional but spending more and more time together makes things difficult and they give in to passion. A misunderstanding occurs the morning after and the two must navigate through it.
Another hilarious book of Misha Bell’s. I’m so glad Alex finally got his own book and the heroine Holly was so complex and very interesting. I thought she and Alex were perfect for each other and he never made fun of her habits with cleaning and prime numbers. It was so much fun seeing all the other characters we know and love like Fanny, Bella, Dragomir, and Vlad. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Nungguin nya bulanan, bacanya sekali duduk, sampai ngakak2 sendiri baca tingkah Holly yg overthinking, cuma banyak part game dan gw bkn gamer gak into it jg, jadi bacanya rada males part itu kwkwkwkwkwkw

Overall ceritanya lucu, single pov, jadi lo akan nebak si ini Alex gimana, tp kr 2 buku sebelumnya jg single pov, jadi ya kebaca lah... heronya cowo baek2 pokoknya, tight family dan liat tingkah konyol nya si heroine tu seneng, apalagi kl Holly sama twins nya apa pas part Holly nyamar jadi "thing 2" (bapaknya manggil anaknya tu thing 1-8 kwkwkwkwkw) buat lunch sama ortunya.

My fav tetep Vlad sih, hero buku 1, tp Alex jg adorable XD

Holly is a software engineer at a company that manufactures virtual reality headsets and gloves. As their CTO, she’s had the opportunity to develop her own pet project: literally, a VR pet therapy for pediatric hospitals. Just as she is about to secure her first contract with a New York kids’ hospital, her company is taken over by the Chortsky siblings, Alex and Bella, as part of their plan to bring Bella’s tele-erotic product line closer to fruition.

What will happen to Holly’s “pet” project if the Children’s Hospital finds out that her parent company now also makes sex toys? How does a prime-obsessed, hyper-organized, control freak girl geek handle this adversity? Well, she bribes her magician twin into teaching her lock-picking skills so that she can break into her new bosses’ office. She’s going to introduce their dad’s penetration software into Bella’s prototypes in order to sabotage the next investment meeting. Yeah, she’s brilliant but in a mind-bendingly non-sensical way. Soon she’s caught in the act, in a very compromising fashion, by The Devil himself, but by then I’ve already gotten quite a few “chortles” under my belt.

Misha Bell delivers total hilarity, endearing geekiness, and smoking hot sexiness once again. I loved every moment of Holly’s neurotic quirkiness as she tries to keep her job, protect her project, and hide her drooling lust-filled fantasies about her hot new boss. She befriends her other boss, Bella, (feeling more than a little guilty about their rocky introduction) and QA tester Fanny, and I couldn’t be happier with the nerdy girl bonding.

Memorable gems include Alex’s bear dog-chihuahua cross, Beelzebub, another over-the-top dinner party with the Chortsky parents, and dirty phallic Tetris game playing. There were tons of “awww-the-feels”, family-you’ve-got-to-love-em, and embarrassing laugh-at-inappropriate moments.

Hard Byte is romantic comedy with a perfect blend of silliness and soul. An unshackled sense of humour provides the former and its cast of amazingly endearing characters brings the latter. This series is one I would recommend again and again.

Took me long enough to read. My goodness this series progressively went downhill for me. There isn’t much distinction in terms of character traits or the recycled plot moving from book to book. I’ve already forgotten the heroine’s name actually🥴.

I love AZ but the dark reads are what she excels at. This series felt like writing for the sake of writing.

I really liked the story in this book, actually in the whole series, but with both hard byte and book one, hard code, I really struggled with the FMCs.

I love a quirky and funny FMC, but in this book, she drove me crazy. And not just with her OCD tendencies for prime numbers and all things prime, though that became too much too. It was the britishisms for an obviously American character and her prudishness in all things (ie. She hates all violence - including for fun nerf gun fights and video games?). I understand she loved the UK when she was there but she has been back for years so it seems a bit much.

Also, why was her OCD not discussed? It was clear she had obsessive compulsions with her need to clean and organize everything, count everything and only allow prime numbers for everything (including the number of 🐱 👅?). But everyone pretended like it was just this funny little thing she did.

Additionally, I really liked the MMC's character in the first two books, but he kind of fell flat for me in this one.

I must admit I love writing by Dima Zales & Anna Zaires aka Misha Bell, I find their books very funny, sexy and lighthearted. Hard Byte is no different. Holy & Alex are the newest couple in this hi tech series. Working on new technology Holy finds herself entangled into project she wouldn’t choose to be part of, but sexy new boss who comes with the project she may enjoy working on it just fine. Excellent, light, with a lot of laugh out loud moments, lots of sexy and a little bit of ridiculousness make this read enjoyable.

From Downton Abbey to Pride & Prejudice; not forgetting all things tidy and PRIME numbers! This light-hearted telling of the relationship between the gorgeous Alex Chortsky and Holly Hyman will keep you turning pages.
Alex has Holly so entranced that you could often think of her as (Horny) Holly Hyman! Again, there is the Chortsky family dynamics with a very stimulating birthday dinner; add to the mix more VR games, a sexy suit testing, virtual pets (live ones too) and you have all the ingredients for a fantastic read.
The Misha Bell couple have come up with another smart romance – I came across so many new words that I looked up on the dictionary, one of the greatest attractions for me in a book. There were lots of Russian ones too and it is always captivating to learn of other cultures.
Stand out line for me was “If you put out loving energy into the world, the karmic balance will always be in your favour”. This really resonated with me.
Whilst there were many giggle moments in this book, the attraction between Alex & Holly got serious very quickly and it seemed as if Holly would explode with the want of it!
As expected, this book is sharply told with intelligent dialogue and beautifully edited. Yes, this is a five-star read you cannot miss. It is guaranteed to leave you smiling.

I was so excited to read about Alex “the Devil” Chortsky after reading the first two books in the series. This was wonderful and hilarious from beginning to end. I absolutely loved Holly and Alex. They were both quirky and geeky about numbers and coding. It was so cute to see them bond over the most nerdiest things. Holly’s obsession with prime numbers and britishisms were weirdly adorable. I loved her infatuation with Downtown Abbey, it was the best British show ever!! How can I forget the nickname she came up with for Alex. Haha! Crusty!! That scene was so funny and cute. Alex’s reaction was priceless. Alex was so swoon worthy. I loved how protective he was of his sister and her new venture. He was a bit of an alpha, with slight possessive tendencies when it came to Holly. He just got Holly and understood & accepted all of her, odd quirks and all. The epilogue from Alex’s POV was great! I wish there was more from his POV. But overall, this story had me in stitches and was a fantastic romcom. It was slow burn, sexy, and entertaining. I’m looking forward to reading more by Misha Bell and can’t wait for Tiger and Gia’s story.

DNF @ chapter 1

There was a remark about pigs and bacon that didn't sit well with me and I won't read anything else by this author. In both previous books, food and animals from which that food came from were mentioned quite a lot. It made me uncomfortable, but I'm aware that most people still eat meat, I mean, I only know 2 other persons, other than myself, that don't eat meat, so I put that aside.
Here, the heroine talked about her mother inseminating a pig that was like a pet to them. And that is what I don't understand. How can you continue using and abusing animals after you spend time with them and see that they have feelings and personalities? What kind of person are you to be able to do that?

Loved everything about this book! Alex and Holly have so much chemistry that you can see it just coming off the pages. They shouldn’t be attracted together since he’s the owner or the company she works for but the pull is just so strong that it can’t be helped. Alex must be around holly, be damned the consequences.

Everything about this read enticed me to continue reading to find out what happened next.

I absolutely loved this read and rate it without a doubt 5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Can’t wait to see what comes next from Misha! 💜

I read book one (Hard Code) last July and I loved it. Mischa Bell has created the most hilarious scenarios, interesting female leads and charming male leads. I always tell myself I will read more of her stuff, but this is my third book by this author. The scenarios are completely off the rails things that would never happen, but it's done in such a way that you can't help but jump on board with it... we have to see where this is going after all. Our sometimes-british-sounding tea obsessed coder has worked all her life to bring AI to fruition- to be exact, her AI pet therapy program to help sick children. She's almost there! Then the company she works for is bought by the devil... or the CEO of 1,000 Devils a gaming company that is whispered to be going toward AI of the sexy kind. What to do? Break into the office, try on the suit and possibly add some code to break it- or at least stall it until she finishes her work with the hospital. So, here we are, having picked the bosses lock and gotten naked at work- save for the AI suit... and start the program making a lover that looks like the drool-worthy man she saw at lunch. And, of course, this is how she's found. Alex for his part, doesn't know what to make of this crazy woman that tried to sabotage his sister's work... and suceeded in destroying his office. I loved how he behaved toward Bella, and how he was willing to at least entertain the idea of Holly staying- man knows he needs her for the coding. A deal is struck- she helps Bella with testing, and spends one night pretending to be dating him so his parents will stop trying to match him with women. The more time they spend together, though, the more the attraction grows. I love the way he reacts to Holly's idiosyncrasies, keeping them in mind and making sure she can be comfortable while refusing to let anyone make her feel weird about it. The scene where she's trying to buy a prime-numbered meal and he demands the same warmed my heart. Also, who doesn't love a smart, sexy man that smells like tea? I still have to read Dragomir and Bella's story, but I loved Fanny and Vlad. All these books are histerical, sweet, charming and (sometimes weirdly). I had the best time! For me, this is a five star book.

★★★★★

On the adult content scale, there is a lot of drinking and a lot of sexual inuendo and toys even before all the steamy sex starts. I would say there's still more plot than sex... but this one is definitely geared toward adults.

The couple: Alex and Holly

Romance genre: rom-com
Series: Hard Stuff
Length: 378 pages

Plot: Holly is the COO (I think that's the correct title) of a company that works on VR. She needs funding for her latest project, which is a VR pet she's testing at the hospital with sick children. She's worried, though, because it appears that the funding she's getting comes from a company with ties to porn. She decides to destroy the prototype VR suits to buy herself some time but is caught by the head of the company, Alex. Ruining the suits will destroy his sister's business, so he is clear with Holly that she can't do that. He seems to be invested in her much more as a potential suitor than as an accuser or blackmailer though. Holly has so much going on in her life, but Alex seems to get her in a way that nobody else does, and that's not something to give up so quickly.

Commentary: Well, this is the third book in the series. I loved the first one, liked the second one, and this one did not impress me that much. Holly was annoying. She had issues that I might have felt sympathy for, except that she seemed to have serious OCD that were presented as quirks or typical nerdy. She had coping skills, but they weren't very good ones. She probably needed ongoing treatment of some sort, and I'm not trying to be funny. She had to count the thrusts during sex. She made the people at her favorite restaurant count the number of tofu and scallion pieces in her soup, every day. I understand that people live with the symptoms of OCD, and I imagine that must be difficult, so it didn't really play as fun, quirky programmer girl or comic relief for me.
Also, the British-isms. She went to university in England, and now talks like she's a Downton Abbey lady's maid. It seriously annoyed me. She's American, she lived in America until she was 18 and she's been here ever since she came back from college. It felt like an affectation rather than the "I'm just good at absorbing languages" that we get as an explanation.

Alex was great though; he just rolled with the punches, no matter what Holly did. And speaking of Downton Abbey, he did a wonderful job with his surprise at the end - that was sweet as can be and might have saved the whole book for me.

PHENOMENALLY funny, punny, and STEAMY! A total MUST-BUY!
Once again, author Misha Bell (the writing duo made up of Anna Zaires & Dima Zales) has me laughing out loud, sighing, apprehensive, and crying (both happy and sad tears) with the latest novel in their series of romantic comedies. Timed to bring inspiring joy to their readers, HARD BYTE exemplifies Misha Bell’s droll and sarcastic pokes at modern romance tropes, while offering plotlines of total hilarity wrapped up in a beautiful “enemies to lovers” love story. This total MUST-READ novel entertains with a believable story wrapped up in sidesplitting dialogue and angst delivered in dual narration. It has everything a modern romance should; worthy characters, believable settings and situations, and a prose that pulled this reader so far into the story that I found myself unwilling or unable to pause until the last word was read. While I volunteered to read an early copy of HARD BYTE, I have already pre-ordered a copy to support this extremely talented writing pair. It will go into the FAVORITES collection of my Kindle so I can read it again and again. While I wish I could award more than the cap of 5 stars, but I can’t, so this 5+STARS recommendation and my voluntary review will have to suffice. HARD BYTE is brilliant, hilarious, and STEAMY enough to satisfy any romance reader. Nothing is sacred or out of bounds, not even the female lead’s name, Holly Hyman. Every assumption she pursues, every plan she creates is so far off that . . . I can’t say more without exposing . . . ummm, I mean giving away some of what made HARD BYTE so PHENOMENAL! Get your copy of HARD BYTE today! Happy pages! 😉

This is such a cute series! I wish the Chortsky’s had more children to read about. If I’m not mistaken the next Misha Bell book is about Dragomir’s brother, Tigger. That’ll be fun and maybe we’ll still get glimpses of the Chortsky siblings and their mates.

Back to this book, Alex, the owner of 1000 Devils and Holly. Her company has been developing a pet VR game and they are now linked to Bella’s interactive VR suit from the last book. She panics and starts to sabotage Bella’s suit but , of course, Alex is there to stop her and he’s smitten despite her initial intention. Fun and laughs begin as these two bumble their way to a HEA.

Story 4/5
Heat 1/5
Spice 1/5
Angst 2/5
Comedy 3/5
Cover 3/5

Series: 3rd in the series, could probably work as standalone
Trope: enemies to lovers-ish, workplace

Slow burn, these two don’t sex it up until 80%. We get a few solo scenes with Holly scattered through but they are unsatisfying and brief.

No condoms, no virgins, no manwhore, slight push away from h at first but then he’s the one keeping things professional to her frustration, they don’t really break up but there’s a brief separation that lasts less than a day mostly stemming from a miscommunication, slight OW drama. No sharing, no cheating, no cliffhanger and HEA.

Safety - I’d consider this safe, the OW drama is catty girl his mom tried to set him up with but it’s very brief and she’s banished quickly. He has zero interest in OW. He also gets very jealous when Tigger asks her to dance but Tigger really didn’t mean anything by it he was drunk lol.

Oh my, what a refreshingly, funny romcom! I was pulled into this story by Misha Bell as we meet Holly, an obsessive, quirky woman designing virtual reality animals for children. When her company is taken over by the "Russian Devil", Alex, she finds the direction of the company moving opposite what she is interested in. VR for adults, not something she wants to venture into, but secretly samples. She is super organized, loves all things prime numbers and can't understand her attraction to her new, scruffy boss. When he asks her to pretend to be his girlfriend for the night, things take a turn. Will Alex be the one who loves all of her idiosyncrasies? Witty banter, fantastic flirting, and a fun story packed with eccentric family and virtual pets, I was laughing out loud while falling in love. It's a quick moving, funny romance and if you are looking for a good listen, this it for you!

Ava Erickson narrates this story with her fantastic voice. Giving life to Holly and her quirkiness, it's fun to follow her strict personality. As Alex, she adds a smooth, Russian accent to die for as we get to know this interesting business man. And are treated to the epilogue by Aiden Snow giving us the true love and feelings this couple has as we finish out their story. A listen you do not want to miss!

Don’t waste your time

The first book in this series was great, the second was good, and the third is just awful.

Worst sex scene ever? Quite possibly. Who the hell counts during sex?

I do not like the h in this book. All of the h’s in this series have had a quirky characteristic. Fanny nicknamed everything that was super cute. Bella was overly superstitious a little ridiculous, but didn’t really bother me. Holly has serious OCD, she is slightly obsessed with cleanliness and seriously over obsessed with prime numbers. This is not cute and quirky, this girl needs major psychological help. Additionally, what she tries to do at the beginning of the book is seriously wrong. I think it’s meant as a meet-cute but it isn’t and her still having a job afterwards is absurd. When she goes clothes shopping her existing wardrobe further indicates how much she needs serious mental help. She’s then incredibly prudish, not conservative, just a prude. I almost hate her and definitely think Alex could do so much better.

The book is still charming and laugh out loud funny at points which is probably why I finished it. With all of these books I wished they were dual POV, but this one especially because it would go a long way to save it from its horrible h.

Side note but everyone at this company was working on coding for pet therapy for hospitalized kids and now they’re all working on porn and just fine with it WTF?!

LAUGH-OUT-LOUD Romantic Comedy! Get the tissues ready to wipe the tears of laughter :-)
Hard Byte is the third book under the pen name of Misha Bell (aka Anna Zaires and Dima Zales), who are extremely accomplished authors of Dark Romance, Urban Fantasy and Paranormal books. This hilarious and amazingly written story showcases a quirky, funny as hell and obsessed with prime numbers h (Holly) and her hot, gorgeous, full of surprises and sweet new boss Alex. Their first encounter will make you laugh so hard at the ridiculousness of it all. This is a LAUGH-OUT-LOUD Romantic Comedy Book, that is smart, geeky, all-time funny, and that will cause you to laugh and smile constantly, and most of all, make you feel all giddy inside!!! I prefer no to give too much away, so let me finish by saying that you should definitely give this book a try ❤❤❤... don't miss out! It can be read as a standalone, even though I do recommend you also read the first and second books "Hard Code" and Hard Ware". Highly Recommended
