'Sewing Lingerie' is your step-by-step guide for intimate apparel, loungewear, and sleeper. Slips, panties, tap pants, teddies, and nightgowns are just a few of the garments featured. You will learn the latest techniques handling lingerie fabrics, applying lace edging, inserts, and appliqués, sewing garment details, such a mitered slit openings for slips, sewing projects without a pattern, and embellishing lingerie for that finishing touch.
This is a great book. It's very compact, has simple instructions, and has a lot of really useful techniques for customizing patterns for a full bust or other alterations, which I haven't found as often (or as specific to so many different types of bodices or other garments) in most of the pattern alteration sections of my general sewing reference books. It also has a lot of good basics, such as seam finishes or applying lace and elastic that are useful for many different types of clothing. Very useful.
One important thing to note, however, is that sewing "lingerie" does not include any bras other than sports bras. I have, however, used techniques found in this book and applied them to sewing swimwear, even though the book does not specifically address that category of clothing.
Detailed information on sewing undergarments and loungewear for men and women. Instructions are included for cutting a kimono without a pattern. Other items require a commercial pattern.
I was going to write a review on this and haven't had the chance. So here it is. I was interested in this book for the techniques associated with sewing these types of fabrics. It is very clean ( no immodest models, no models at all in fact) and discusses some basic garment types. The part I was the most interested in had to do with the fabrics and how they are best sewn, what type of stitches to use and edge finishing. I am not a seamstress, but have learned a lot from this book, and now on to the next sewing book.
I love this series. Besides excellent and very clear photography, these are excellent reference books for the sewer's library. There are such great pieces of info that I've used in more than just when sewing lingerie.
