Rylee doesn't have high hopes for the Victoria Day weekend camping trip, seeing as she's been roped into taking her brother and his juvenile friends. But her mind is changed when she spots a gorgeous man on a hiking trail. She'd like to be zipped in a sleeping bag with him, no doubt about it.
Atticus came to Elora Gorge to get away from his father and his demands that his son find a mate. Like yesterday. Atticus needs time away from being groomed to be the pack leader and the endless stream of "suitable" mates thrown his way in hopes of stirring his mating urge. No luck yet. But then he spots a shy mortal who draws him like no other.
The tent heats up quickly, but before Atticus can tell Rylee what he is, he discovers a member of his pack has followed him with the intention of claiming him for her own. Not only does he have to convince Rylee she's his mate, he must also prove she can trust him.
Marisa Chenery was always a lover of books, but after reading her first historical romance novel she found herself hooked. Having inherited a love for the written word, she soon started writing her own novels.
She writes young adult and romance books.
Marisa lives in Ontario, Canada, with her husband, four children, four grandchildren (she's a young grandma at fifty), and five rabbits.
Well Shucks! Why is it when I go camping all I come home with is bug bites and poison ivy rashes, unlike our main character Rylee who takes her brother and his friends camping one weekend and ends up bringing home a gorgeous werewolf.
Some gals have all the luck. At least this is true in this very cute and romantic short story.
Plain and simple Rylee has been asked by her parents to take her brother and his friends camping over the Victoria Day weekend. Rylee agrees but feels her weekend will be mostly a huge bore as she has to play chaperone to the rowdy teenage boys. Packing up a good book to read over the weekend, she takes the boys to Elora Gorge.
Atticus, a gorgeous bleach-blond werewolf who is next in line to take over as ALPHA has decide to hide out at Elora's Gorge also. He is tired of his father's insistence that he hurry up and take a werewolf mate. Atticus figures the park might be a good place to run in wolf form and get away from the family stress for awhile.
Rylee finds a surprise when she walks up on Atticus' camp site. She sees the most gorgeous, sexiest man she has ever seen and immediately feels an instant attraction.
Atticus is hit with the scent of his true mate when Rylee walks up but the major problem he faces is the fact Rylee is mortal and his father will never approve. Atticus realizes he has waited over 900 years to find his true mate Rylee so he plans on claiming her as his own immediately. There seems to be a little snag in his plans though as a former lover who is also a werewolf shows up at his campsite. This wolf-diva wants Atticus as her own so she can up her status in the hierarchy. This gorgeous but dangerous opponent is determined to do anything to get Atticus for herself, even if that means taking Rylee completely out of the picture.
This smooth flowing story completely grabbed my interest from the very first paragraph. I was enthralled by the immediate chemistry of the two main characters and I thoroughly enjoyed the hot and sexy love scenes. Marisa Chenery did an excellent job at spinning an interesting paranormal tale that sizzled the pages right out of the book. This reader was finding herself fantasizing about discovering her very own Atticus. After all, who wouldn't want a gorgeous and sexy mate for life?
I like the antics of the side characters as the teenagers in the story were true to their nature. Despite the fact the immature boys were into mischief, I enjoyed the brief scene were Rylee's brother came to his sister's rescue. That scene reminded this reader that family is indeed important.
And without saying too much to ruin the end of the story, let's just say I love the part where Atticus' mom came to his rescue too.
This short story was well written, entertaining and extremely hot. My only complaint is that it was too short! I wanted so much more. I plan to read many more stories by Marisa Chenery in the future if I can. I am sure I will be saving this one to reread again in the future.
If you love paranormal stories with a sexy “Happily Ever After” then this is the story for you!
Oh good gods the insta love in this. I mean literally just HOURS. Like, was it even an hour before their eyes met, and then he stalked her and they were getting it on? And then he was calling himself her boyfriend. Not even joking.
The OW plot was a bit tedious.
It felt a bit junior high... "he's my boooooyfriend." after only a few hours. Then they "broke up" a few hours after that. Then it was "bitch he's mine!!!!!! I lurve him even though I just met him!!!"
Not sure if I'll check out anything else by this author or not. But it did kill time while I was trapped under the baby and her nap. (seriously, took less time to read then her nap)
3 stars because it wasn't badly written.. just felt a bit juvenile. Wow. I thought this was her first book hence the juvenile feel to it... guess not... So i guess this would be more of a 2.5 star? I hate being that mean. I didn't hate it, and it was more than just okay. But it wasn't that great.
Overall, I'd say this felt more like a rough draft then a full story... It has the potential to be really good though.... The characters need to be fleshed out, we'd need a lot more world building, and just more overall story and it could be the beginning af a really enjoyable series :)
On a side note, there was one minor irritation - all the characters seem younger then they're described as.... The heroine doesn't seem like a 24 year old , but more like a 19 or 20 y.o, and her brother and his friends who are supposed to be 19 act more like high school freshmen then college aged ones....
But like I said, for such a short story it isn't a bad way to spend an hour.
There is such a big market now for the paranormal and supernatural books. These books are not new. They are just more popular. I have to admit that I’ve found quite a few that I’ve enjoyed which makes me prone to read those that sound interesting. I recently read Marisa Chenery’s The Canuck Werewolf.
This is the first is a series of books. It is the story of Rylee who goes on a camping trip with her brother and his friends when she meets a man that turns her world upside down. Atticus is camping because he is needing some time alone. He never expected to find the woman destined to be his mate. The fact that she is not a werewolf is going to be a problem with this family and pack.
The storyline is great. I liked it. There was so much potential. I was disappointed in the character development. They seemed two dimensional. Then again this is just 61 pages so not much space is given to depth. Keep that in mind if you read it. It is a very, very short and will take you no time read. If you want a romance book that involves the supernatural, this might be a book for you. If you want a short read, this might be a book for you. If you’re looking for a book that will keep you riveted for days, it’s only 61 pages.
Ms. Chenery has the seed for a great story but seems to be lacking in a lot of meat to the story and the ability to have me really wanting more.
Rylee has been roped into taking her brothers and his friends on a hiking trip over a holiday weekend. Ryleee is expecting a boring and frustrating weekend with lazy teenage boys. She is in for a surprise when she meets Atticus. Atticus is like the worlds most perfect man and he is trying to escape his family and the pressure to find a mate over a long weekend. When Atticus sees Rylee he knows he has found the one BUT now he needs to convince her of that and to tell her that werewolves exist without running her off.
The plot for this book is good but because the book is so short there is no room for development. The characters feel stiff and everything feels rushed. I think this book has the potential to be great and it the world is interesting enough but this story was just to big for 61 pages.
I hope the next one is longer and she has the space to tell the story.
Rylee wasn't overly excited about her weekend plans, keeping an eye on her brother and his two friends were on the bottom of her to do list. Although she gets a glimpse of her hunky neighbor at the campsite things are looking up .
Atticus needed to get away, he is going to be taking over the pack and his dad is pushing him to mate, the problem is he is not interested in any of the woman being paraded in front of him. This camping trip just turned into a blessing though when he finds her at the camp site. She is mortal though and he needs to gain her trust before the weekend is over, but everything is threatened when a wolf from his pack shows up wanting her place as his mate.
This was too short for me. It just didn't have time to cultivate.
A good short read. I wish it would have been longer. There were only two things that detracted from the story from me. One, was the obvious dislike Marla & the hero's father Grant had for mortals. I don't particularly like werewolf stories that werewolves have a superiority complex, although I guess every book has to have a villain and Marla was definitely it in this one. The other thing I didn't care for was Rylee's reaction to what Atticus was; calling him a freak and going all spaz. I understand that she was scared and freaked out, but that was no reason to call him, what he is, what he was born as, a freak. Not kewl for me.

I did not hate it, but I did not like it. I guess I can say that it was Okay. I think that the book has the potential to be much more but many ideas and thoughts were left unfinished. Normally, I like paranormal romances but it seems that so many authors are trying to break into the genre with little to no direction. I think that this book failed to get me interested and when I thought I was going to be it fell flat. I felt the characters were not interesting and therefore left this book knowing I would not read the rest of the series.
These are short stories, no I don’t mean 200 pages or less I mean less than 100 pages. You probably say that isn’t worth reading…. Well if you want to miss out on a story by an author who will leave you hanging on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen, how the story will end then that is your loss. This is a sexy, fun read, and though it's short, the author made me care what happened to the characters. I'll be reading the rest of the series as soon as possible.
Light read, short story everything happened very quickly, too quickly. The thing I think I loved about it is that the heroine was from my home town and that I am so familiar with Elora Gorge it was my summer stomping grounds. I enjoyed seeing the snippets of the area.
Annoying! Full of info dumps. I liked the fact that the book was set in Elora, ON in Canada - it was nice to read descriptions of places that I have lived. Other than that? The characters were very one note and there was way too much saying not showing.
This was a pretty good story.I did send it to a friends Kindle to read.I like sometimes books that have to do with vampires and werewolves.I would read more books like this one.
