Sunira S's book "Consumed by Obsession" was an exceptional read that I recently indulged in. The story follows the main character's all-consuming fixation, and the dangers that come with it. This book sheds light on the detrimental effects of excessive fixation on anything, as the title aptly suggests.
A terrible accident claims the life of Prachi, a gentle and loving young lady. Raj, her husband, is shattered when he receives the news on their first anniversary. Unable to comprehend the fact that his wife is no more, he points fingers at Shruti, a girl he believes is responsible for Prachi's death. Will Raj take matters into his own hands and seek vengeance for his wife's tragic demise?
With great skill, the author kept the suspense of the book alive until the climax, which provided a truly satisfying ending. The language used throughout the book was simple and easy to understand, and the storytelling style was captivating. The characters were portrayed in an admirable manner by the author. Overall, I highly recommend this book.
I have no idea of what grieving the love of your life feels like, but this book truly made my heart suffer.
However I know how it feels to lose someone you love with all your heart and it never heals…but you never know what life has to offer you.
I think what I expected was the pain while reading, which made me crash along with the book. I really wanted to cry hard and feel all the characters - Raj,Prachi and shruti.
So, the story is about Raj, as you may already guess, is grieving his wife 💔 life feels like it has stopped for him, and he is stocked with all his pain. His wife prachi loses her life in an accident. After that Nothing seems to help him move on, until a couple of months later Raj comes to know about the fact that Prachi lost her life in saving the life of someone who according to the witnesses of the accident was someone who doesn’t deserve to be saved.
Next we get to know about Shruti, who was a naive girl, fell for Ravi and married later her marriage became a sham. She becomes alcohol! Raj decides to avenge the death of his wife and starts stalking Shrut.
Shruti spends her days and nights fighting her personal demons, dulling her senses, unconscious of the lives she has wrecked. Most of the time I feel like I couldn’t connect with Shruti, she was so lost in her own grief that she pushed herself away and that made me think of her as a very difficult person.
I wish the book had more chapters about Prachi, we missed a huge part by not knowing much about her. I guess this is one of the things I love most about the novel, we get to know Prachi and Raj, we get to connect with his and Prachi’s relationship.
Mangled and tormented by those closest to her, she is now harassed by a man she has never seen or known, her only friend a police officer.
The novel is a story of two broken souls who cross paths only because they look to fill the voids in their hearts – two beings inextricably linked by the only constants in their life – tragedy, loss, unconscionable guilt, and their obsessions.
This book is beautiful and painful, so don’t get me wrong, I did love it, but I guess I just expected more emotion from it.
One of the best novels I've ever read... About love and letting go.I think it's a fantastic book to curl up on the sofa with the book and a cuppa.
Justice and Revenge; the lines between the two are so blurry that we usually don't even realize the difference. In Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, Shri Krishna mentions revenge as adharma and Justice as dharma, he gives a solution to differentiate the two. He says the difference lies in the intent; In revenge, you want to hurt the perpetrator and In Justice, you want to get justice for the victim.
Our protagonist Raj is caught in one such blur. His devastated heart doesn't want to know the difference. All he wants is to express; his pain, his grief, and his anger. Even if it means hurting others and himself.
No matter how bad your life is you can always make it better, all you have to do is take the first step. We all know this gyaan, but always fall short in implementing it. This book is a great case study for it. You literally see the consequence of not moving on.
The best part of this book is its writing and characters. The author has perfectly balanced the romance and revenge aspects of the plot. The back and forth between the past and the future brings depth to Raj's character; we understand his pain. To tell you the truth, at the beginning of the book, even I wanted Shruti dead, Prachi is such a beautiful character, it's just not fair. You actually feel Raj is right in this dark pursuit. The actions of Anand give away his love and helplessness for Shruti. Kudos to the writer for skillfully etching out the characters; right from the central protagonists to a simple Chai wallah, every character has a voice, a personality. Raj, Shruti, and Anand, literally drive the plot forward.
My only disagreement was with the character of Shruti. I get her pain, and the mess she's in, and yes betrayal is the greatest wound in the world (hope I am not giving any spoilers ;p ), but, but in this 21st century when divorce is so common, moving on from an abusive relationship has become comparatively feasible, especially when you have someone as special as Anand. Why would she destroy herself in the way she does? I couldn't connect with her actions the way I did for Raj and Anand. Maybe my EQ is low or I don't get the female perspective.
All in all is one of the few inspiring fiction books that I have read in recent years. I highly recommend it to those who love a story with a perfect mix romance and revenge.

🖊️This is the first book I've read by this author, Sunira, and I liked the story, and, of course, the romance. The only reason that Raj and Shruti even meet is because of a vengeance by Raj. I also like the way the author weaves in the family dynamics to make the story a more layered read. This lovely story took what could have been dark and melancholy subject matter, and made something upbeat and whimsical, yet no less moving.
🖊️Raj, the main character in this story, is a widower who lost his wife. Raj's wife Prachi dies in an accident.Raj is so affected by the death of his wife that he is unable to live his daily life properly. It affects everything in his life. Alcohol plays a very big role in his life to take a turn for the worse.
🖊️Raj's wife's accident caused by the lady named Prachi is an alcoholic. Why is she like that was because of all the tortures she had experienced in his past. Every incident in this book made me want to read the next one without realizing it. One of my favorite parts of this book is the love story of Raj and Prachi, it's a very sweet story. Although they are poles apart, that one thing binds them together.
🖊️Raj enters Shruthi's life to take revenge on her who caused his wife Prachi's accident. When the two meet, there is a connection. Not exactly love at first sight, but something that develops into much more than vengeance should feel for his enemy. I liked that both Raj and Shruti looked past the superficial to what mattered in life.
🖊️I liked the subtle humor here, a light touch of grey love that brightened this story and kept it from being too melancholy. As much as I like angst, sometimes it's nice to have a dark love read that's also deep and manages to move me at the same time.
🖊️I think it best if I end my review here, because if I keep going I’ll give away far too much and I want to leave the treasures of this story for you to find on your own (i.e Raj and Shruti relationship and About Anand and The true colors of the trio.
Revolving around three characters Raj, Prachi and Shruti, the book talks about the grief, obsession and grief in these characters which grip the reader's attention till it's last page.

Overall, Consumed by Obsession is an intense, emotional read with some amazingly crafted characters which will stay with you, long after the story is finished. A great read for fans of psychological drama.
I chose this novel solely based on its description at first. One of my all-time fave genres of literature is suspense mystery. Speaking of this novel, it is essentially a murder investigation, but Raj's attachment to an obsession with his wife has been on my mind a lot. It serves as a reminder that no matter how busy we are or what life objectives we have, a life companion is someone who supports us rather than completes us. The tale has its ups and downs, and it did cause me to cry at times, but overall, it was worth reading. Immersing oneself in someone else's intense wants and feelings is always lovely, and this novel is one of them.
When Raj unexpectedly loses his wife Priya, he is totally disoriented and unable to comprehend anything. Shruti is a drunk who goes through life as such. She is able to operate at work and endure her past thanks to the numbness. Anand has always been in love with the wife of his closest buddy, but he has never admitted it to anyone. Due to Priya's accident, these three people are forced to cross paths, which exposes secret aspects of their personalities and forces them to confront their demons.
The narrative of the book centres on two lost souls who only come together because they are searching for a way to fill the holes in their hearts. These two individuals are bound together by the only constants in their lives: disaster, loss, unconscionable remorse, and their obsessions.
I couldn't put the book down; there was an irresistible draw, and I adored the way it flowed and was written. I was most struck by Shruti's tale. Even though her fixation resulted in terrible repercussions and her suffering, as a result, made her more human in the end, I was really pleased when she began cleaning out the haze because it allowed me to immediately establish a connection with her.
‘Consumed By Obsession’ is a gripping and intense story that explores the destructive power of obsession. The book revolves around two central characters, Raj and Shruti, who are both grappling with their own personal demons.
Raj is consumed by the need for vengeance, believing that Shruti is responsible for the death of his beloved wife. His obsessive desire to make her pay for what he sees as her crime drives him to trespass into her life and seek revenge. On the other hand, Shruti is haunted by her own past and battles with her own personal demons. She is completely unaware of the danger that is lurking around her in the form of Raj.
The author has crafted an intriguing plot that is filled with twists and turns that keep the reader on the edge of their seat. The characters are complex and multi-dimensional, and their motivations are explored in-depth. The themes of tragedy, loss, guilt, and obsession are explored with sensitivity, making the reader empathize with the characters and their struggles.
The writing style is engaging and the author’s attention to detail is impressive. The vivid descriptions of the settings and the characters’ emotions add depth to the story. The pacing of the novel is well-balanced, keeping the reader engaged throughout.
With its well-crafted narrative and intense exploration of the darker aspects of humanity, 'Consumed By Obsession' is a compelling and refreshing novel that leaves a lasting impact on the reader. It is a book that engages both the mind and the emotions, immersing the reader in a world of obsession and the consequences that come with it. For those who enjoy delving into the complexities of human nature through the lens of psychological thrillers, this book is a must-read.
The book blew me away for several reasons, firstly the book has a sweet back cover and the opening is really quirky and adorable And just reading the index will tell you how lovely and fancy the book is going to be.
A poignant emotion will be evoked and the beautiful description of the poignant language at every moment is capable of creating a situation in which any reader becomes enthralled.
The book is the journey of these two people and how they overcome their obsession, before losing themselves completely and find new meaning to their lives.
The book consists of 20 chapters , a unique way of index is shown by the author. I really enjoyed this insightful book. It is so clearly and logically organised as well as being extremely readable.
The chapters are easy to negotiate and it flows seamlessly. I have no authority to call the book bad. Because I was fascinated by the back cover of the book and it was the first time I got attracted to the name.
Moreover, from the quality of the page to the description of the book, the author's choice of language, the specification of the language, the consonance of the language, everything has been shown to be skillful.
Now coming to the storyline of this book. A story of two broken souls trying to cope with their pain and obsession. we hold onto the pain that keeps us from moving forward in life Because we find the memory of our loved ones in that pain. We think to move on, to trying to live life means to move away from memories of What we had lived with our loved ones. How grief turns into remorse And enslaved us.
The scenes and the plot development have surprised me a lot. It's a serious reading and every genuine reader should read this book. Please go for this.
Everyone has a capacity for darkness… we just need to find the light!
When Raj suddenly loses his wife Priya he’s completely shaken and can’t make sense of anything. Shruti lives her life under the influence of alcohol. The numbness helps her survive her past and function at work. Anand has always been in love with his best friend’s wife but has never spoken to anyone about it! When these three individuals cross paths because of Priya’s accident, it reveals hidden facets of their characters and they have to face their demons!
When I read the title of this book, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but as I read one chapter and then the next, I couldn’t help but keep flipping pages to know more! The character build-up happens slowly through the story and the author gives us teasing glimpses of what is going through their minds. The storytelling happens with pieces of the past interspersed with the current timeline and this kept me hooked. Raj and Priya’s love story is very sweet yet real and relatable. Their opposing personalities come together to be the perfect couple. I don’t know what genre to assign this book but it’s like a psychological romance / thriller. The way the author has provided detailed descriptions without making it chunky and boring is what makes it a great read. I also love the various shades of grey of the human personality that have been shown through the characters. Their reactions to tragedy, their ways of coping with it, their mental state, their emotional trauma… this book has plumbed the depths of the mind using the story. A great read… one I’d recommend if you love fiction with grey undertones.

Book 16 of 2023 - Consumed by Obsession by Sunira R - Trauma fueled Obsession thriller
Rating: 4 out of 5
I have been reading so many introspective books this year, that I needed something to get me out of the deep vibes and my usual romcoms were not helping, so I picked this Indian book to make things refreshing. To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised by the book. Thrillers are not usually my cup of tea, but the blurb intrigued me.
Our emotions can become so tangled up without our knowing, the deeper our insecurities and challenges we are facing, the more we get boxed up into our shell, which can become suffocating that our vices, which keep us sane, become our addictions, and in some cases become an obsession. Raj and Shruti, the main characters, were experiencing this, some may call them crazy, but when there is no help in sight, it is harder to get clear headed and easier to lose sight of what is important.
I was hooked on the book, there was an invokable pull, loved the flow of the book and the writing style.
Shruti's story stood out the most for me. I could connect with her instantly, and was really happy when she started clearing out the haze, even though her obsession led to dire consequences, and her getting affected due to it made her more human in the end.
Raj turned me off a bit, but when I saw the box he was in, made me understand his actions more. I think he still has a long journey to go, and I hope he gets the help he needs. All in all, loved the book.
This book is a domestic drama with every aspect—from sorrow to obsession—present. It presents a novel perspective on class relations and provokes in-depth thought. It's a complicated tale focusing on Prachi, Shruti, and Raj, three enticing individuals.
The author delves deeply into the characters' emotions, evoking sympathy in the audience. The key topic of obsession is thoroughly investigated, demonstrating the significant impact it may have on a person's life.
Raj experiences severe mental upheaval as he struggles with his love for his deceased wife, Prachi, and the complex relationships between him and Shruti, whose actions caused turmoil in Prachi's life. This emotional turmoil is beautifully shown in the novel.
The plot was made much more intriguing by the characters' intricate psychological interactions, which had me guessing until the very end. Raj and Shruti's decisions demonstrated the influence of fixation and significantly altered them.
The narrative develops to an exciting finish that will satisfy you, and the perspective of the female protagonist is particularly unsettling. Despite the grim subject matter, the writer infuses the story with passion and love, making it a compelling read.
Overall, this moving story depicts the struggle of two people who become captivated by their obsessions and their journey to redemption. For readers who appreciate an original story, this book comes highly recommended. Readers can empathise with the characters' feelings as it explores their hardships.
Certainly, our lives are a trajectory of happenings. These happenings either turn out to be good or sometimes bad. Certain happenings lead us through the darkest sides of our life. Raj Chandra and Shruti on whom this novel totally depends are living their life through the darkest times.
They are both traversing tragedy and loss. Emotions that could drown them in totality. But could these emotions be motivations that could help us survive? Consumed by obsession tells us that the obsessiveness of the characters gives them a reason to look forward to living a life even though it is filled with grief and guilt.
The cover of the book is enticing equally is the story told by the author. The interior design of the book is pleasant to the eyes. The author's deliberate choice of certain Indian words makes it a relatable and easy read.
The character development seems to come out of an obsession with the personalities and their temperaments. Despite the dark lives of Raj and Shruti, while you read the book, you aren't affected by its obsession but it definitely makes you realize and feel for the characters.
Our psyche is such that even though we live around obsessive people, we manage to adjust and still turn out to be positive in life. Obsession could either turn us toxic or it could mould us into caring beings. Perhaps, for Raj and Shruti, it was a journey within themselves. To know more, you ought to definitely get hold of the book and go on an introspective journey.
Thrillers are always my cup of tea. When I came to know about this book, the blurb of this book had grabbed my attention and I didn't hesitate a second to pick this book. And this is one of my best picks of this month.
This book is a story of two desperate souls in pain, one in the loss of his wife who thinks it's not an accident and the other is an alcoholic who tries to escape from her dark past. It's really an amazing plot and no wonder It hooked me till the end.
At the beginning of this book I didn't feel much connected and was on the verge of thinking why these types of people even exist, but the character development of this book is so amazing that it changed my mind and I became obsessed with the characters… See this book made me obsessed like them 😅…
Our mind is so typical when we lose someone so special in our lives and also when our past is not normal like others. The characters development made me realise this thing in very amazing way. This book is a perfect blend of thrill, suspense and romance that made me finish this book in a couple of sittings.
The narration and language used in this book is quite impressive and it's beginners friendly to start reading this genre. This book is fast paced and every plot twist can make the readers hooked till the end.
I highly recommend this book for all my bookish friends. Happy Reading ❤️😊…

Now what we get is a melancholic drama of broken people. One determined to avenge his wife's untimely death, and one woman who's never in her senses. They're more alike than they know, because they're both obsessed with something!
This is a great debut from the author, a fine attempt at storytelling. The concept is great and interesting, the book cover is brilliant, giving the vibes of a sexy romance thriller while the book is more of a melancholic thriller. The story is bit of repetitive at times, but I don't blame the author because I guess we can imagine what losing a loved one feels like. However it would have been a better one in my opinion if there were more of twists and turns in the book. The book is overall a fine read, one with a heart and soul, medium paced thrill and little bit of suspense on how the ending would be. I wasn't bored with the book, and would love to read more from the author. A fine debut!

I recently read this fascinating book that revolves around the lives of Prachi, Raj, and Shruti. The story begins with Prachi's tragic death as she tried to save Shruti, leaving Raj devastated. The incident had such a profound impact on Raj that he dedicated his life to inflicting pain upon Shruti. As the story progresses, we get to know why Raj thinks like that and how Shruti's life is. Will Raj be able to find peace and love in his life again? Will Shruti be able to move on from the past? To know that, you have to read this book.
Although the language used in the book is easy to comprehend, what made it truly impressive was the author's meticulous selection of words. Initially, I had my doubts about connecting with Shruti's character, but the author's excellent portrayal of her character won me over, and by the end of the book, I had developed a fondness for her. All emotions are portrayed in a very realistic manner, making the story more relatable. The scenes are executed very well, and the book is very fast-paced and engaging from the very beginning.
The title of the book is also very appropriate and gives a hint about what to expect from the story. Overall, I would highly recommend this book if you want to read something new. It is a beautiful but heartbreaking story.
The cover and title are apt to the story. Cover is simple and attractive depicting the two protagonists.
Simple and reader-friendly writing style. The narration is engaging and completely entertains the audience. The chapters were organised effectively, and the plot moves along smoothly. In contrast to the rest, the final chapter and the epilogue were particularly exciting. I was excited to see how the story would pan out. I enjoyed how it all turned out at the end.
The characters had a great deal of personality. Despite the fact that it was a nice read, I felt the narration dragged. It seems like a drawn-out, monotonous read. Many of the portions struck me as being repetitive. The same notion was frequently presented in numerous ways, much like Shruti's addiction with alcohol and her thought process.
Overall, I feel "Consumed by Obsession" should have been portrayed more effectively even though it is a good novel with a fantastic plot. Each reader has their own preferences. This may be extremely interesting to certain people, but it's not really my cup of tea.
