"The temptation of familiarity couldn't overrule my desire for the unknown." is a line that goes way harder then it needs to and I love it for that. Really enjoyed this collection of poems, a nice quick and easy read in between all the bricks I am trying to get through, though quick and easy doesn't for a second take away any of it's emotional impact.

For me, poetry is all about having the biggest impact with the fewest words, painting an entire gallery of pictures in just a page. Planting a garden in a paragraph. With poetry, you don't have to wade through pages and pages to get to the good stuff, literally the good stuff is all there is and every line has purpose and meaning. The best poems can say more with a few lines than a novel could say in 50 pages. These poems definitely fit the bill and they so beautifully and heartbreakingly shed a small light on moments the reader will never know an intimately as the author, but can still feel the impact, the devastation, the lingering moments of love, and the healing from the remnants of the words.

Simultaneously filled with love and anger, longing and regret, these poems capture in such a relatable way a maelstrom of emotions, a storm paused, emotions captured in stasis, still burning just as brightly but still enough to allow a comfortable gaze to look and understand, a living artifact of the past that can give us as much as it gave the author, and awaken the same memories and touchstones that connect us all. I don't read too much poetry as I am usually drawn more to narrative, but this is an amazing example of poetry in all it's sparse, effective, and raw glory.
