I was particularly interested in this book when I found out the author was from my hometown Detroit. That's right baby home of the Motown sound and we love to get down. We stay on point like Stacey Adams. Lol! Okay I'm getting besides myself here. But like I was saying the author is from my hometown and it was very nice recognizing all the landmarks that he was naming in the book.
Shady, Shady and more Shady should have been the name of this book because the characters in this great plot driven story proved to be just that and more. I liked the way Mr. Banks introduced each character to us individually it gave us readers a chance to kind of get to know them before the actual story, it was kind of like a story within a story. Does that make sense? As I first entered this book I was met by a very hateful and spiteful woman who took pleasure in being abusive physically and mentally toward her 13 year old daughter.
I mean the way this woman beat her own daughter in the face as well as some of the things she said to her made me want to whip her ass. Her name is Greta, you know the type jealous of her own daughters looks, and mad at her for the life she never had.Eventually she began to get jealous of the success her daughter accomplished when she got older.
Secondly I met Giselle who survived the wrath of her mother Greta growing up.It wasn't easy to do but writing in her diary about her life growing up kind of help ease the pain, and she had some stories and secrets tucked away in those books. She had been writing in her diary since she was 13 and she was now 18. Giselle was on the come up with her acting thing she had just got picked to be on a new hot t.v show, and had been dating a nice guy for a couple of years. He was an up and coming film maker looking for his big hit. Giselle just never thought it would be about her life even though it was juicy enough to make a movie.
Then I met slick talking, heartless ass Jodie the up and coming film maker. Jodie didn't have a remorseful bone in his body for none of the shit he put Giselle through. It left me wondering did he even love her?
Put all three of these characters together and mix it with one SHADY ass plot and you get one hellva story.
Now like I always do around this time...
