R. R. Pottle the Third has a truly wonderful, extra-extraordinary collection of hats. But happiness eludes him. He is lonely and dreams of meeting a perfect wife ' who will, of course, be wearing a perfect hat. One day, a day so bad that R. R. Pottle wears not one, not two, but three hats at once, his dream comes true in the best possible way. This warm, comical story by talented new author Laura Geringer is crowned with full-color illustrations by Caldecott Medal winner Arnold Lobel. Reading Rainbow! I remember this one being really cute. The man in the story loves hats. If I remember correctly, he will wear multiple hats on days when he is sad, hence the three hat day being a sad day. It has a happy ending though. :)
This is the story R.R. Pottle, a man who loves hats. His father loved canes and his mother loved umbrellas. They lived together in the Pottle mansion. But then his parents pass away and he’s all alone. R. R. dreams of finding his future wife in the rain. He knows she will be wearing the perfect hat. This small book, endorsed by Reading Rainbow, has a wonderful wistful quality to it. I like that the adults in the book are modeling good behavior. With the exception of the hat shop owner, the characters are well-mannered and polite. They treat each other with respect and expect others to do the same.
Somewhat quirky and fun. Though ....I don't really understand the "climax".... Ultimately its a love story that explores shared interest and feeling. - Z0e
This is an entertaining, but strange story about a man named R.R. Pottle the Third with a thing for hats. His mom loved umbrellas, his dad loved canes and they loved to walk together in the rain. R.R. loves hats and wants to meet the woman of his dreams to walk in the rain with, too. The story is very odd, especially when we see R.R. wearing three different hats because he is sad, but we enjoyed reading it together and I love how this charming story has stood the test of time.
R.R. Pottle the Third has quite a collection of hats in his mansion. His late father collected canes while his late mother collected umbrellas. He meets Isabel at the hat store. They marry and have R.R. Pottle the Fourth who loves shoes!
A lovely story about a man who loves hats and his hope to find just the right someone to marry. Great ending. Clever plot. And wonderful pictures by the great Arnold Lobel.
PB 27 This was a pretty good book. The characters are very sweet and they make you feel compassion for the silly lonely hat man. I loved the ending! There is also a lot of possibility for this book when teaching children the short a sound.
The man was sad and he chose three hats and he was still sad. and it was raining and he met a girl and they fell in love with each other and they got R.R. the 4th. She liked shoes
