Hawaii has their own unique culture compared the Continental United Sates. This book took 14 of the most famous Nursery Rhymes and rewrote it with a Hawaiian twist. Form the Rhymes of Baba Black sheep, Mary had a little lamb, Mary Mary quite contrary, jack and Jill and many more.
I would use this book in my classroom by showing how to play with language and how similar rhymes can hold a pattern with new words.
I would first read the normal mother goose stories, then introduce this book and find another version. With that I would have my students try to make up their own version of Nursery Rhymes having them be as creative as possible. Making a class book of all the rhymes that the class had made, with pictures that go with the story.
Find other types of nursery rhymes that have morals, lessons or just silly to read.

Fun and familiar nursery rhymes with a Hawaiian twist. It's a fun book to read aloud and incorporates little bits of Hawaiian culture and language in each rhyme. Our girls really enjoyed this book and so did I.

This book was very unexpected for me. But it is a lovely book of poems meshed with a lot of Hawaiian culture and words to learn. I enjoyed reading it and I think students could really learn from it and see a different culture that is within our 50 states.
