Beet and Poala are in the midst of an epic journey, facing off against one powerful Vandel after another, but even with this magical weapons, can they best such immovable foes? Sanjo continues this fun and witty adventure with another exciting entry. Will Beet's skills be enough to ensure victory over such menacing opponents?

I rate this 3.5 stars.
After rereading vol. 1, I was a bit worried that Beet, the main character, would be stupid and while he kind of is, he's not as stupid as I thought he'd be, there was an incident in this volume where he didn't fall for the trick like everyone thought he did. He kind of reminds me of Gon from Hunter X Hunter, as in he's simple minded but pretty good at fighting and doesn't get angry easily. I was afraid that he would be like Goku from Dragon Ball Z or Luffy from One Peace, but thank God he's not that stupid, otherwise it would have been very hard to read the rest of the series, I don't want to dnf the series because I own 11 of the volumes and it seems fun so far.
This world is like a game with the whole leveling up concept and the vandel's castles being kind of like dungeons, which makes me wonder if this series is based on a game I've never heard of.
Back in the 90s and early 2000s, it was very popular to make the main character of manga idiots, especially the fighting ones in both shojo and shonen series, I don't know why, but it felt like that was the case for almost every series. While it was funny with some series, it got annoying after a while and I wanted smarter main characters like Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist (love that series so much and the Brotherhood anime). I don't hate some series with dumb main characters like: Fairy Tail, Naruto, Haikyu, etc. But have gotten annoyed and bored of those types of main characters, so I'm glad that in modern series, the main characters are not as dumb as a brick (although they were pretty good with battle strategies at least). No I don't count Ichigo Kurosaki in the dumb main characters list because we have seen that he does pretty good in school and he's not shown as being dumb even though some of the characters think he is. The only reason he has trouble controlling his spiritual pressure and can't do kido is because everything happened so fast for him with barely enough time to even learn what he has already learned that it makes sense he wouldn't know.

Honestly, given how chill the first volume was, I feel like this volume was an intriguing follow-up. While we did get a little more growth from both Beet and Poala (as well as meeting a third character and possible future teammate Slade) we got more world-building on the side of the vandels, which was the thing that really got my attention this time around. This volume ends in the middle of a showdown between Beet and the arch nemesis Beltorze, so the third volume should at least open in an interesting way.

It's a nice story about a boy fighting to end the "Age of Darkness". Not the best story out there but compared to Dai's Adventure has better characters and a more believable premise. As the story progresses the characters only get better and more interesting. I was sad when it stopped so long ago and can't wait to continue it.
