High school students heroic act turns into epic human vs. monster sword fight!
Buso Renkin is the story of teenager Kazuki Muto, who dies trying to save a girl who was being attacked by an eerie monster. The next morning, however, Kazuki is left wondering whether it was all a dream. Lo and behold, the girl, the monster, and his death are all real! The girl, Tokiko Tsumura, was actually trying to slay the homunculus (a beast that can take the form of humans, and whose main source of food is people), but Kazuki got in her way. To revive Kazuki, Tokiko replaces his heart with a "kakugane," an alchemic device that allows him to summon a lance with which to fight the monsters. It turns out that Tokiko is a member of the Alchemist Warriors, an organization sworn to protect the world from the diabolical creatures. Soon, Kazuki joins Tokiko in her quest to terminate the sinister being that creates and controls the homunculus.
Kazuki inadvertently reveals his identity as an Alchemist Warrior to the Hayasaka twins, members of the L.X.E. (League of Extraordinary Elects), when he activates his Buso Renkin in front of them. After Tokiko and Kazuki take on the twins in a late-night battle, they learn the location of the L.X.E. headquarters, and head there along with Captain Bravo. Intending to put an end to Dr. Butterfly's organization, they discover that yet another evil plan has been set in motion...

This review is part of a personal challenge to: 1) read more French books; 2) improve my French; 3) read all the French manga novels from my mom's manga collection. Seeing as I read this book in French, the actual review will be in French (duh).
Nobuhiro Watsuki moves quickly through his plot points, dispensing with comedic or suspensful stringing along for the sake of overall advancement. With some uncharacteristically crass humor and some harsh, if characteristic, pathos, Watsuki provides another enjoyable, if standard, manga volume.
Hore Papillon tidak ada di sepanjang jilid 4. Namun Watsuki sensei sepertinya memang membuat karakter yg rada nyelekit. Kali ini kembar Hayasaka (terkesan hubungan mereka agak incest). Volume ini juga memiliki beberapa adegan lucu yang cukup menghibur. Semakin menarik
From the creator of Rurouni Kenshin, This series is definitely far from the greatness of that manga! The plot and art was all over the place, Great at times and hard to stay with it at times... 👌😁💕
For me at least. I'll decide if I feel that way moving on, but this volume and the next definitely are on a high level. Everything else feel like they're building to something bigger. Specifically the contrasts between the two 1v1s.
Kazuki and Shusui were excellent contrasts for one another. It wasn't so opposite the way that Papillion and Kazuki were. But Shusui became darkness because of his past. Where, Kazuki, whose past was good, was thrust into his own darkness. The conflicting personalities reminds me a lot of Naruto and Neji, though the themes are different.
Ouka, who is much more a intelligent utility character fighting off against Tokiko who was a straight up warrior was fun to watch as well.
I really just want to give it up to Watsuki for Shusui's and Ouka's flashback. That was something I remember sticking with me so firmly as a teenage reading this because it was much darker than anything I'd seen. I was a big fan of that being the motivation for the characters.
This is also when I think the humor began to find more of it's fix for me. I think before hand the humor was kind of strong armed into the series to make some of the characters a little more relevant. Also, to break up some of the dark narrative tension. However, it finally started to find it's stride. Though the friends are still pointless characters.
