The the top of a 13-story skyscraper. The Yugi and Kaiba vs. the Rare Hunters in a tag-team match! But even if Yugi escapes a deadly drop to his death, the worst is yet to come. His best friends, Mai and Jonouchi, have been possessed by Marik! Now, Yugi must fight Marik's mind inside Jonouchi's body. But the rules of this duel are... only the winner comes out alive!
Takahashi (高橋和希) started as a mangaka in 1982. His first work was Tokiō no Tsuma (闘輝王の鷹), published in 1990. One of his earliest works was Tennenshokudanji Buray (天然色男児BURAY), which lasted for two volumes and was published from 1991 to 1992. Takahashi did not find success until 1996 when he created Yu-Gi-Oh!
This first thing to note is that the blurb says that Mai is possessed my Marik when it is actually Anzu. I just discovered the really cool little paragraphs at the beginning of each book written by Takahashi about the making of Yu-Gi-Oh. Marik was created when Takahashi was thinking about the voice in his mind that is constantly telling him he should be working when he is out having fun. Kaiba was created when Takahashi heard of a person who asked a card game player to teach them how to play the game; the player told them to come back when they had 10,000 cards. This volume finishes off Yugi and Kaiba’s duel with the Masks of Light and Darkness. I was pleased to see the end of this duel as it was rather annoying; the Masks are annoying characters and Kaiba is too insistent that he can win without Yugi’s teamwork. However Kaiba and Yugi do make really good dueling partners and seem to know each other’s decks really well. Kaiba tags along with Yugi to find his friends because he wants to see what Yugi would do when he has to decide between saving his friends and defeating Marik. It then gets onto one of my favourite duels in the whole season; that of Yugi against Jonouchi. Marik is controlling Jonouchi and Anzu I like all the different elements in this volume.
Yu-Gi-Oh Duelist Vol 15 finishes off the tag-team duel from last volume while delivering on the titular battle of Yugi vs Jonouchi. The Masked Duo face-off finishes off in a satisfying way. Then things quickly move into Yugi dueling Jonouchi who is possessed by Marik. All while Tea's life hangs in the balance. It is a pretty interesting duel that leans heavily into the friendship between the two we've seen grow across the past hundred+ chapters as well as the "Heart of the Cards" that Takahashi highlights semi-often. Like most other volumes it ends in a cliffhanger.
Bummer they couldn’t finish the tag team duel in the last book and then it sort of sets up the Joey-Yugi duel. I liked where this was going but my biggest realization is that Marik keeps coming up with elaborate death traps for Yugi to duel himself into. But nobody ever dies….
Wow. Just wow. No tengo palabras para describir todo lo que este tomo me hizo sentir, empezando por ese inquebrantable y especial lazo que comparten Yugi y Yami hasta la personalidad comprensiva de Kaiba. Wow. Just wow.
Another duel of life and death and an appearance of an old friend. I don't know how many more I can take. Battle City finals are right around the corner. When will Ra finally make their appearance?
So this book was very interesting. Kaiba and Yugi won their duel and Joey and Anzu got kidnapped and brainwashed by the Egyptian guy, I read his name so many times and yet as I type out my reviews I can never remember his name lol. Joey and Yugi are in the middle of a very crazy and intense duel and it's very life and death. Yugi wants to duel Joey himself so he removed the millennium puzzle in a way to try and free Joey from the brainwashing. The duel is not very back and forth, Joey is using a lot of illegal cards that cause direct damage to the duelist and it doesn't matter if they have a monster or not. Kaiba and Makuba are also watching the duel but they can't intervene at all cause their lives are at stake as well.

Yu-Gi-Oh finally let's its extended cast into the book, and also into your hearts.
Yu-Gi-Oh! has an amazing extended cast, and with how little it actually uses it, you wouldn't know. Practically everyone is here, even Yugi (non-Yami edition), and while they don't all have a lot of time in the spotlight, they really but their charm in this book.
And the art also made an artistic upgrade here! While it has often been detailed, full of imagination and creativity, the minimalist approach to the pill swallowing scene really stands out. It is a beautifully executed scene that is going to stay with me for some time.
Yu-Gi-Oh has a lot of pizzazz, but what makes this book special is it quite, reflective moments and it's charming cast. It's good to see it back.
This is a bit of a game changer for the series. Marik has taken over Jonouchi's mind using the Millennium Rod and is forcing him to face Yugi in a duel to the death! Anzu is used as leverage, standing off to the side with a poison pill stuck between her teeth. Yugi agrees not to use Slifer in the battle in order to play "fair", but he won't go easy just because it's his best friend. The duo-Yugis decide it's best if it's *real* Yugi dueling to try and reach Jonouchi's "duelist heart" and pull him out of the brainwashing. They play the trump card the Red Eyes Black Dragon to try and drag out the real Jonouchi. It certainly had a darker tone than the anime where readers really felt like the lives of the two friends were on the line. It was a little cheesy with the talk of the "duelist heart" being able to break the curse, but overall an exciting volume.
