Arwen is an individual figure skating coach who never thought she’d ever get to meet the lead singer of the band Soar. She’d been crushing on Gannon ever since Soar’s first CD came out. While attending the band’s concert in her hometown, Gannon’s and her gaze meet during a love song he sings, making Arwen think he’s only singing for her. Unexpectantly, the next day, an even more unbelievable situation occurs. Gannon appears at the skate club and asks her out on a date.
When his gaze met the woman’s in the crowd, Gannon became immediately taken with her. Something about her drew him like no other human woman had before. As an Alte, a winged being humans had mistaken for angels through chance encounters, he and his band mates are the last of their kind after an illness swept through their people. Surviving, they find themselves able to manipulate the elements, allowing them to hide what they truly are from the humans around them. Their bright silver eyes become natural, and even their wings are camouflaged, leaving a tattoo-like mark on their backs. Immortal as well, the remaining five have together lived for over a thousand years.
As Gannon grows closer to Arwen, he finds himself fighting to keep his true self hidden. Even more frightening, when they make love, he starts to absorb her life energy causing him to put some distance between them. But when another of their kind arrives on the scene, revealing what caused the demise of their people, Gannon is faced with letting Arwen die or risking the rest of humanity to save her.
Marisa Chenery was always a lover of books, but after reading her first historical romance novel she found herself hooked. Having inherited a love for the written word, she soon started writing her own novels.
She writes young adult and romance books.
Marisa lives in Ontario, Canada, with her husband, four children, four grandchildren (she's a young grandma at fifty), and five rabbits.
Icy Temptation introduces us to Gannon, Jalen, Keiran, Malik and Trae. Not only are they the five members of the rock band Soar, but they are also Alte. The Alte have lived alongside humans for thousands of years. Although they are equipped with ways to hide their true selves, they have been seen by humans in past. Because of their wings and ability to fly, the humans who have seen them mistake them for angels. After surviving a virus that killed off their race, these sole survivors are now immortal. They live out their lives rocking the masses.
When Arwen's best friend, Natalya invites her to a Soar concert she cannot refuse. Though she spends her time either training and coaching competitive figure skaters or at home alone, she considers herself one of Soar's biggest fans. She's dying to see the lead singer, Gannon, she's been crushing on in person. As Gannon sings the band's love song, their eyes meet and neither can deny the strong connection they felt. Brushing it off as a night to remember, Arwen returns to her life on the ice.
Gannon, however, cannot leave Kalamazoo without meeting the first woman to intrigue him in over 1,000 years. When he shows up at the Skate Club, Arwen cannot believe her eyes. The two begin their whirlwind romance, which is more than either could have expected, when a surprising evil appears and threatens everything.
I enjoyed this short introduction into Marisa's Angels of Rock series. At times, the story felt a bit rushed. It definitely had insta-love factor often found in erotic paranormal romance novels, but this didn't bother me because the two seemed to be good for each other despite their differences. I also enjoyed meeting the other members of the band and look forward to their books in the future.
Thoughts before reading: Yum, Yum, looks like a nice one to me! Great summary, interesting title, great reviews, come on Icy Temptation!
Thoughts after reading: Hmmmm, bummmer! After an hour of searching, I finally thought I had a book that was realllly good. Turns out my guess was wrong. It's not that it was terrible, no, not at all. It just wasn't good enough, and after I read it I wasn't like, 'WHERE IS THE NEXT BOOK? I NEED IT NOW!'. In fact, I was a little bit disappointed. I mean, it has a great idea, with likeable characters who don't make you want to pull out all the hair of your head. But unfortunately, Marisa Chenery doesn't make all out if it... A shame, really. I am still going to read the next book in the series, hoping it will be lots of better.
I had to force myself to read it all the way through. Don’t get me wrong, the story did have a lot of potential, not to mention the foundations of a great villain and a horde of interesting elements to pull the reader in, it just failed to use them fully.
The characters where easy to like, at times a little too unrealistic in regards to the situations they were in. And the angelic race, the Alte, was very interesting in itself. But the entire time I felt like I was reading the first draft. If only one or two more revisions had been made, I would have enjoyed the story more than I did.
About three or four chapters through, it started to lag quite a bit and when it finally got to the romantic and erotic moments everything was rushed. Even the ending was rushed, the last chapter falling under two pages in length. Not to mention, the author skimmed over parts of the story that could have been used to create suspense and intrigue, and summed them up in a sentence or two.
There was too much telling and not enough showing.
I found Icy Temptation an outstanding beginning to the Angels of Rock series. Marisa Chenery creates a love everyone dreams of finding, and allows the reader a small taste of heaven. The writing is solid and paints a picture the reader can see clearly, which allows them to feel the love, fear and pain of each character. Marisa Chenery is always successful at drawing in a reader with her amazing writing, and Icy Temptation is no exception with its outstanding storyline.
The take on Angels, or Alte as they're called here, is interesting. I liked the premise and the series had a lot of potential. It still has. But the solutions come a little too easily. I liked the characters, though some times they are a little too...they're know-it-all's. Nothing is a real surprise, nothing sends them screaming and running in the other direction. Like I said, the solutions come a little too easily.
I'll still continue reading the series, I kinda want to know how they manage to deal with the sixth Alte...
This wasn't a bad book...but I went in expecting more. The description was misleading. The descriptions said " Gannon is faced with letting Arwen die or risking the rest of humanity to save her." Ooooh, hows that gonna play out? Well, it played out in what seemed like a paragraph.
The anticlimactic ending left me flat. But otherwise, not bad. I'll give the series another shot.
Oh Holy Wow this may have been a short story but it will knock you back in your seat with such amazement. I did not see any of that happening but it was AWESOME!!!
