According to ancient prophecy, there’s only one chance to avert the complete annihilation of the Undead. Twins James William and Brigit Poe — part human, part vampire — believe that they are that chance. In truth, the key lies with reclusive — and mortal — scholar, Lucy Lanfair.
As Armageddon approaches, anti-vampire sentiment fuels a war neither side can win, driving James to abandon his moral code and draw Lucy into a deadly battle she wants no part of.
But Lucy soon realises that she holds this powerful immortal’s soul in her hands, and that it’s her destiny not only to stop a war, but to save James from his inner darkness. If she fails, his race will die — and so will her heart.
Is the power of their love strong enough to save the world?
I live in the teeny, tiny town of Taylor, NY, (Alliteration Alert!) though my mailing address is Cincinnatus, my telephone exchange is Truxton and I pay taxes and vote in Cuyler. All of these are at least in the same rural county in the southern hills of New York State; Cortland County. There are more cattle than people here. The nearest “big” cities are Syracuse and Binghamton and they are an hour away, in different directions, and not really all that big by most standards, though they both seem humongous to me. I look out my window to see rolling, green, thickly forested hills, wildflower laden meadows and wide open blue, blue skies. My road is barely paved. The nearest neighboring place is a 700 acre dairy farm.
My house is a big, century old farmhouse. I moved in here after my divorce in 2006. Just a little over a year later, the house, which I had named, SERENITY, burned. It was 99% gutted, and I lost my two dogs, Sally, an 11-year-old great Dane, and Wrinkles, my 14-year-old, blind bulldog. This was the culmination of my Dark Night of the soul, which had seemed to hit me all at once in 2006-2007. My mother died that year, after a 14 month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was only 60. The youngest of my five daughters had left home that same year, and while that’s not a tragedy at all, it felt like one to me. Then came the divorce. And finally there was the fire--it seemed my darkest night wasn’t quite finished with me after all. I had lost almost everything before that point, and as I poked through the wet ashes and soot the next day, I realized that I had now been stripped all the way to the bone.
No better time to start over. (And no, I didn’t come to that realization that day--there were a few days of wallowing in pity first, particularly the day after the fire, when I hit a deer and smashed up my car, which I was practically living in!)
That’s when I started to laugh. Just sat on the side of the road as the deer bounded, uninjured and carefree, out of sight, and laughed. It was just too ridiculous at that point, to do anything else!
And from there, I picked myself up, and brushed myself off, and said, okay, there’s only one way to go from here. Forward. And that’s what I did. There I was at the age of harrurmphemmph, living in my one, mostly undamaged remaining room, with a dorm-sized mini-fridge, a futon, a TV, my cat (nine lives!) and a laptop. And not much else. (Though thank goodness the room that survived the fire, was a room that had its own attached bathroom!)
Since then I have rebuilt my beloved home, which really has become my haven, my “Serenity.” I share it now with my fiancé, Lance, and we have accumulated quite the little family together. “Little” being a relative term. We have a pair of English Mastiffs, Dozer and Daisy, who weigh 203 pounds and 208 pounds respectively, and a little pudgy English Bulldog named Niblet, who is bigger than both of them, inside her mind. We also have the aforementioned cat, Glorificus (“Glory” for short,) who adores her canine pups and keeps them firmly in line. And we've acquired a pair of stray cats as well, a mother and son, Luna (Lulu for short) and Butters aka Buddy. Lulu showed up pregnant during a lunar eclipse, had a litter, and vanished again. We found homes for all the kittens except one. Butters. We got him fixed and kept him. A few months later, Lulu returned, again expecting. This litter was born on the "Monster Moon." Again, all the kittens were spayed and neutered and placed in homes, and this time we got Lulu to the vet in time to spay her before the cycle could repeat.
Glory is not amused.
She has a story of her own, my old Glory cat, having been with me before the Dark Times descended, she went through it all with me, moved with me, survived the fire, and remains with me still. She's tolerating the newcomers. Barely.
My partner is an artist, a mechanic, a welder and an inventor, and the rumors are true, he is much younger than I

You know that a book is going to be good when only a few chapters in, you think to yourself that it sure would be nice if your Kindle were waterproof so that you wouldn't have to put the book down long enough to take a shower. True story.
Now, I should probably start this review with a very important disclaimer: this is Book 17 in a series, and I haven't read a single installment previously. I decided to read this one for two main reasons. First, the blurb sounded interesting enough that I felt it would be an entertaining read, and second, because I think other readers who are also new to the series deserve to know whether or not they'd be completely confuzzled if they jumped in so late into the series.
Surprisingly enough, I have to say that I feel that this story worked quite well as a standalone. As with any late-edition to a series, there are of course references to events and relationships that were obviously detailed in previous novels, but while my curiosity was piqued in regards to a few of the existing couples, I never felt as though I was missing any key information.
I really enjoyed the ending. While it didn't wrap everything up into a neat package by any means, leaving the storyline wide open for the next installment of the series, I didn't feel as though it were a true cliff-hanger which was a relief. While there was more focus on the relationship between James and Lucy than I think is normally the case in an Urban Fantasy, the low steam level did leave me feeling that it was more UF than Paranormal Romance, and that actually appealed to me.
Overall, a very solid read that won't leave newcomers scratching their heads, and I'm looking forward to reading the next installment to the series. 4/5 Stars.
Dear Maggie Shayne, You have just caused the exponential growth of my TBR pile. Because thanks to this book, I feel compelled to go and read your entire backlist. That is no small feat, because The Twilight Prophecy is book 1000 or so in the Wings in the Night series. But what is absolutely amazing, is that there was not one single instance that I ever felt like I was missing something. Obviously, this book features several couples featured in the previous books. But this book worked clearly and spectacularly as a stand-alone as well.
James is special among the vampires. He is 1/4 human and he has the ability to heal with his touch. His gift is so powerful, it can even bring people back from the dead. He and his twin sister Brigit are prophesied to be the saviors of their people. And it's time for that prophecy to come true. Vampires are being revealed to the human race; and the humans are lashing out, obliterating the supernatural.
Lucy is the archaeologist and professor who uncovered and translated the ancient Sumerian texts that held the prophecy. She is also a Chosen, a human with the antibodies necessary to one day allow her to become a vampire. James and Brigit pretty-much kidnap her to help them figure out how to find the first immortal, who they think is the key to saving their people.
It's a riveting story. I never got bored. I never got lost. The romance was solid; though it wasn't overly hot. I think there was only one love scene on-page. I am accustomed to a little more smut in my PRs. But I almost didn't notice, as I got wrapped up in the action. (By the way, that's a mighty big compliment.)
The book does resolve the relationship between James and Lucy, but ends on a cliff-hanger, so be forewarned. I'm looking forward to see what will happen when I get my hand on Twilight Fulfilled. 4 1/2 stars.
I'd debated with myself how to rate this book, on one hand the writing and the story is solid and the author bothered herself with explaining things and making her 'vampires in a modern world' theme look as realistic as it can get. That's already more than I can ask for.
On the other hand, the main romance is flat, the tone lacks uniqueness that can make the story outstanding, and in this 'humans v.s. vampires' war, we only see how things are going within a small selected group of vampire instead of getting a good look at the 'big picture', so 3.5 stars.
I bought this thinking it was a single novel only to find out there are 16.... yes SIXTEEN, before it! I wanted to read it ,what I had read about it intrigued me. I was skeptical but I started it, figuring if I was confused in anyway because of it being so far into a series I would stop reading. The book was great! It could easily be a stand alone novel. Now...my wish list has grown 16...yes sixteen, books longer. lol!
This is the 17th book in the Wings of the Night series and focuses on the part-vampire/part-human twins Brigit and James Poe who are the children of a previous book's couple and their unique abilities to give or take life. For many years James has tried to run from the vampire side of himself while his sister has embraced her existence and gotten stronger. James acts more like a human except for those times when he's healing terminally-ill children. Until the day his sister informs him that the existence of their kind is in jeopardy and only the two of them can stop the extinction of their race. With the reluctant help of Professor Lucy Lanfair, whose job is to decipher the ancient clay tablets foretelling the prophecy, James get drawn into a battle with an ending based on lies and with the love of his life getting caught in the crossfire.
This is the continuation of Maggie Shayne's popular vampire series and the storyline is full of characters from previous books. In my opinion it's not an absolute necessity that you've read the previous books since the author quickly brings you up-to-date, but it will help in keeping track of who's who and the intricate family lineages if you have read them. I HAVE read them all and even I had trouble recalling all the characters.
The vampire twins are exact opposites in their abilities and feelings towards mortals. James sees their goodness and lives among them while Brigit embraces her vampire side by imbibing blood and has no need for mortals. Due to mortals' reactions to learning of the vampire's existence though, the two of them are forced into doing things they never thought they'd have to do and in the process start seeing others differently. James has always wanted to discover the purpose for his abilities and is excited by what he believes the prophecy to be and that he'll be the hero. Brigit's always been the bad seed and doesn't see that changing with the prophecy. She's a strong heroine who takes charge and is very likable no matter her negative feelings towards mortals. No matter their differences though they have a strong bond and the two of them are the best parts of the story.
For James, being the hero is important. Whereas Lucy has always seen herself as a coward from her early childhood when she hid and was the lone survivor of her parent's deadly archaeological dig. She at first doesn't want to become involved in the vampire's fight and irritatingly is constantly asking to go home. Even though she's slowly becoming more attracted to James she still doesn't want to be with vampires. For a large part of the story she believes what the government bad guys, the DPI, say about the vampires. The romance between her and James doesn't even make any headway until way over halfway through the book. Because of this, I don't find their romance believable. Since she has the belladonna antigen in her blood that draws vampires into protecting her, it almost felt like that was more of an affect to their relationship than anything else. Because I didn't see much growth in her character until the very end I didn't see why he'd be drawn to her otherwise. With their stagnant relationship this causes certain parts of the story to drag. The middle part of the book felt especially boring and a bit like filler.
The end of the story definitely picks up momentum as truths come out and the vampire's lives become more imperiled. The plan involving their supposed savior turns heroes into villains and villains into heroes and ends on a cliffhanger. And even though this story was a bit lacking in the romance department and has a few unnecessary chapters, I'm still intrigued enough to want to read the next installment in this intriguing take on the vampire world. With an exciting cliffhanger and the possibility of Brigit being the heroine of the next book, and a very intriguing and confused man introduced in this book as her possible love interest, I'm definitely on board for the next book in the series.
5 stars for the overall-plot and the characters from the previous books. 3-4 stars for the love story. First of all, this book may feel incomplete, but that is only because it is to be concluded in the final series installment Twilight Fulfilled to be released October 2011. That book will focus on James’ twin sister, Brigit. Even though each book in the series can be read as a stand-alone, I still recommend reading them in order, otherwise you will miss a lot of character background information and over-all you won’t be as emotionally invested in the characters as if you were to read them from the beginning.
Detailed Spoiler Summery: James is the part-vampire, part-human focus of this book. His love interest is Professor Lucy Lanfair, a scholar who specializes in Sumerian culture and translation. She has just translated a Sumerian tablet (incomplete) that states that a race (we know this means vampires) is coming to an end unless Utanapishtim (does something- unknown- missing fragment), and that the Two who are opposite, one light and one dark, one destroyer and one salvation. (James can heal and Brigit can destroy)
James and Brigit believe that James is the one who has to save the vampire race. And they believe that with James’ power of healing and bringing back to life, if he raises Utanapishtim’s ashes that will in fact save the vampire race.
So, James basically kidnaps Lucy after the world finds out vampires are real (humans start killing off vampires in fear). Lucy is drawn into an adventure she never know she’d have. First taken in order to translate some tablets that Damian (Gilgamesh) has. Once she realizes that these vampires are good she finder herself quickly defending them and falling in love with James.
With the help of Lucy, James learns where Utanapishtim’s (U’s) ashes are. They break into the Met in NY to steal a statue that has U’s ashes in it. They get it and then James re-animates U. I write re-animate because he was actually alive, still immortal in those ashes for over 5,000 years, unable to die. James and Lucy quickly realize that U has tremendous power- he can absorb any information or power from devices or people/vampires. With average human citizens burning their houses and DPI hunting them still (the main “bad-guy” throughout the series is the DPI, Division of Paranormal Investigation, a secret government agency), and now with U killing all the vampires (because he thinks he angered the gods by creating vampires in the first place and his only chance for redemption is to kill them all), the vampires list of allies grow thin. And so do the vampires- the vampires in Ms. Shayne’s series (at the end of the book) are the only ones left alive. Including the newly changed Lucy. Lucy was on the verge of death because she blocked a fatal blow from U that was intended for James. And since U took James’ healing power he had only one way to save her- turn her into a vampire. At the end we learn that the DPI hid the missing Sumerian fragments and the whole translation actually says U is the one that would destroy the race (of vampires) and that the destroyer (meaning Brigit) will actually save the world (not James).
James is probably one of my least favorite vampires so far. Maybe he’s just too much of a Beta hero for me. He comes across weak and spineless. I am looking forward to his sister’s story very much, she seems very spunky and feisty- my type of vampire. I was also a little disappointed in the love story, the chemistry between James and Lucy seemed forced and almost an afterthought. I also wasn’t a fan (at all) of their “misunderstanding” near the end.
Fans of this series will be pleased to see Roland and Rhiannon, Shannon and Damian, Sarafina and Willem, Edge and Amber Lilly, and we also hear about Eric and Tamara, Jameson and Angelica, and at the end when they realize they are the only vampires left they head for the Arctic Circle where Cuyler Jade’s house is.

*This ebook was provided to me at no cost by the publisher*
I have mixed feelings about this book. I think it stems mainly from the fact that I haven’t read the books before this one in the series. I wasn’t aware that there were more books than this one and it’s kind of hard to read book number 16 of a series and not feel a tad lost and put out. For the most part I liked the plotline and I feel like the book was well written. I liked Bridgit the most out of all the characters, oddly enough and yet both Lucy and James annoyed me too much at times for me to really “like” them. While I don’t hate the outright, there was nothing special about them that caught me. Lucy annoyed me how she constantly questioned herself and everything James did and was and I disliked how cowardly she was. Even though it was her character, I feel like it was too much for me and I wanted her to stop most of the time. James wasn’t really anything special as a male lead and I felt like his ego got the better of him at times. He was all, “blah, blah, blah....poor me, boo-hoo,” and while his friends and family didn’t blame him for the stupid choices he made....I did. And I just couldn’t really like him after all that.
Also, I didn’t feel the relationship between Lucy and James at all. Most of the time she distrusted him and he was occupied with trying to save his people, so considering how little they got to know one another....I feel like their relationship was forced. It was as though the author HAD to have them together so she had them hook up, despite the fact that it didn’t seem real to me. Utanapishtim was a sucky guy straight out and even though I wanted to feel for him I just couldn’t. That being said.....and I hate myself for this.....I wonder if perhaps there may be something between he and Bridgit in the next book seeing as she is actually the chosen one and he’s still on the loose. Actually what I hate even more is considering that I didn’t like this book all too much, I actually want to read the next one if that is the case. But only if it is.....

Twilight Prophecy is a sensational addition to an already outstanding series!
The novel centers on one of Amber Lily’s (now full-grown) twins, James a.k.a. J.W. Both James and Bridget are one quarter human and three quarters vampire, and they are very similar to the yin yang, one good one bad, one the healer and the other the destroyer. But appearances can be deceiving.
It’s a race against time with an apocalypse looming and the vampire race on the brink of extinction. James takes up the mantle as healer and savior, throwing away his beliefs and risking the one woman he loves to save all.
Shayne keeps to the overall series arc in Twilight Prophecy with DPI, a secret government agency, out to destroy all vampires. We meet both new and old characters throughout the story and it’s been a long while since I’ve read this series but it took me no time to get back into the plot though I had to think back and place some of the characters. The pace did drag a lot but Shayne blends history, myths and imagination for an interesting mix and a wonderful story. There is romantic tension that keeps your heart tied up in knots and the characters are intriguing. The ending was tied up nicely for the couple but left threads hanging for the continuation of the series. The cliffhanger was well written, and didn’t leave me frustrated but still anticipating the next novel.
Full of romance, suspense, mystery, action and lots of drama Twilight Prophecy was a great read! It also can be read as a stand-alone but is so much better with the rest of the series.
I wasn't particularly impressed by Twilight Prophecy. The prose itself is excellent, and there is a lot of exciting action and tension which made it worth reading. However, the romance itself between James and Lucy was seriously lacking. This is classified as a romance but the love story was more of a subplot, and a very tepid one at that.
I didn't find the storyline of James resurrecting the dead and bringing back Utanapishtim particularly enjoyable. I could see from early on that it was going to be a disaster, and I thought they were stupid for doing it. It was as if they were too lazy to come up with a solution to their problems on their own and sought an easy way out using an ancient prophecy. I am not a big fan if prophecies as plot devices. It's very rare for me to truly enjoy them.
The origin of vampires was rather clever. I appreciate the effort of the author using an ancient Sumerian myth as the source material, but I didn't find it particularly enjoyable as part of the story. Maybe because old Utanapishtim was just a jerk, and I felt they could have solved their problems on their own. But that's the way the author wrote the story, and if the romance hadn't been so weak, none if this would have bothered me so much.
Maggie never disappoints and I am thrilled that she is revisiting her Wings in the night series! This was a journey for both reluctant Vampire JW and Professor Lucy Lanfair and it was both fascinating and heartbreaking. You couldn't help but root for them. I loved their relationship and watching their individual journey as well. Worth it!
Twilight Prophecy is the 17th book in the Wings in the Night series. The premise behind this book sounded interesting enough that I’m glad I decided to read it. There is a Prophecy that states, in essence, that One Light, One Dark, One who is the Destroyer, and One who is the Salvation shall either destroy or save a race (vampires). But the prophecy itself is only part of what actually happens over the course of this book, and the ending was not what the reader will expect.
James and Brigit Poe are twin vampires as well as part human on their mother’s side. The mother is half human and half vampire who was experimented on by a covert arm of the government called the Division of Paranormal Investigations (DPI). DPI has attempted to cover up the fact that there are actual vampires living among mortals. They do everything they can, including assassinating a former agent, to keeping this information secret, and then giving it to vigilantes. Of course, things don’t always go the way you want them to, and vigilantes quickly fall into a feeding frenzy and an all-out assault on the vampires, and those they suspect of being vampires, including innocent humans.
James and Brigit are able to exist in the daylight because of their human blood. They are able to eat normal food; they don’t have to worry about the sunlight killing them like full blood vampires; and they have the ability to live forever. James, the golden one, tried to put his vampire nature behind him, traveling across the country and world healing sick and dying people, and not touching blood at all. Brigit, on the other hand, is the badass vampire with the superpowers to throttle anyone who messes with her. She is known as the prophesied destroyer, and she loves the taste of blood. It gives her quicker reflexes, speed, and strength as well as the power to blast things into oblivion.
As the story begins, James is healing a very sick little girl who is dying from cancer. After he heals her, Brigit escorts him out of the hospital and tells him that it’s time to put his big boy pants on, and become the vampire he really is. The vampire race is in grave danger, and they are the only ones who can save it from imploding if it’s not already too late. There is another key to that equation; Professor Lucy Lanfair.
Lucy is a professor of archaeology at Binghamton University (Central New York) who is also a translator of ancient texts. She discovered and recently translated a tablet that was found to be in Sumerian. The table itself is 4500 years old. Lucy’s parents were also archaeologists but they were killed in a dig in Iraq when she was 11 years old. She basically has her work, and her dog to keep her company.
We soon discover that Lucy is one of the Chosen; a rare mortals who possesses the Belladonna Antigen and with it, the potential to become a vampire. Vampires can sense her kind, smell them, and could not fight their instinct to protect them. With Lucy’s rare blood type, she can expect to die in her mid-30’s unless, of course, she becomes a vampire. The antigen also makes Lucy prone to being a night owl, sleeping during the day, staying up all night. It makes her grow more and more sensitive to the sunlight.
This book is a cross between romance between James and Lucy. A mystery as to who the destroyer really is and who the savior of the vampire community is. Suspense to see how far the vigilantes and the government will go to rid the world of vampires and the Chosen ones, and a paranormal who’s who of vampires from across the ages starting with the very first vampire, Utanapishtim, leaping forward to James and Brigit and throwing in such legendary vamps as Vlad and Gilgamesh the King of Ancient Sumer.
Thoughts: I thought Lucy’s character development from the timid scholarly professor type who stumbles acrossed a deep dark secret and then watches in horror as someone is shot to death in order to keep the secret from getting out to the public, to the end when she realizes she will have to sacrifice herself in order to save the man she has come to loved. She also realizes that the vampire community is the victim in this, and quickly learns to trust them, and fight for them.
James, on the other hand, after making a very bad decision in reviving a long ago King after some faulty translation, finally embraces his so called dark side and becomes the vampire he was meant to be. James is an interesting character to review, but really he is kind of bland without Lucy around. His healing abilities are unique, and amazing, but his brooding is annoying at times. His desire in using Lucy to order to get answers that the vampires need to save themselves, was a bit disconerting.
Still though, I enjoyed this story and definitely will recommend it to anyone who enjoys the PNR storyline. Twilight Fulfilled is expected to be the next book in this series, and releases September 2011.
Expected publication: May 1st 2011 **recvd ARC from publisher**
The romance felt a bit forced, the entire premise of the story was really okay, I could get through it, it's just the romance makes the whole thing rather dull? Both characters are supposed to follow the enemies to lover trope and yet instead it feels like the imprinting situation with Jacob and Renesmee ? Super odd but I see why some would like it. Not for me though.
No he leído los libros anteriores ni se si leeré el que siga pero DETESTO a Utanapishtim. Así que voy a investigar si lo matan y si es así, tal vez me lea el siguiente libro.
Part of the ‘Wings in the Night’ series, Twilight Prophecy follows Lucy Lanfair, archaeologist and Professor of Ancient Sumerian culture and written language and her introduction to the World of Vampires. Her Hero is James William (J.W) Poe, part human and part vampire and totally confused about his purpose in life.
James is a twin and with his sister, Bridget, believes that the two of them are the only thing that stands between their people and the annihilation of the Vampire species. According to an ancient prophecy, from Ancient Sumer, the twins;
“The Two who are opposite
And yet the same,
One light, one dark,
One the destroyer.
One the salvation” 1.
James, believed to be the “light” twin or “the good one” has the power to heal and to bring back to life. Bridget is “the bad one” or the “dark” and holds the power to utterly destroy.
Lucy and James cross paths when Lucy witnesses the shooting of a former Department of Paranormal Investigations (DPI) officer on national television before he has the chance to reveal the vampires to the world in a tell all book. James comes to her aid when he senses the “Belladonna Antigen” in Lucy’s blood. In Maggie Shayne’s vampire world, only those humans who possess this antigen can ever be changed into vampires and all vampires have an overriding physical imperative to protect those with it.
Through kidnapping, danger and experimentation, Lucy and James set off to conquer the mistrust of human kind and the danger that they awaken.
I found the first third of this novel very hard to get into. The pace is lacking and I was not drawn into the story as much as I would have liked. Obviously, this part of a novel is used to set the scene and introduce a reader to the existing history but I did not find myself compelled to become acquainted with this world. However, after the hard slog of the first third, I could not drag myself away from this book. My husband had to become very strict with me at midnight and make me turn out the light!
The protagonists lacked some depth and I would have liked to have more insight into their internal struggles with the moral issues that Shayne brings up in the book. I personally enjoy characters who have strong personalities, those like Rhiannon and Gilgamesh/Damien in this book, which may have coloured my opinions here.
I have to say that certain imagery in the book was a little off-putting, though it was very was easy to see in the mind’s eye.
“…and he squeezed the tiny bump like a blackhead. It popped like one, too,…”2
Can you say, ew!?
Though the latest in the ‘Wings of the Night’ series, ‘Twilight Prophecy’ works well as a stand alone text – thought it will entice you to read its predecessors!
I was a little disappointed with the ending – it felt rushed, as though Shayne had to edit out a scene or two. That being said, I am waiting in anticipation for the follow on novel, Twilight Fulfilled , out October 2011.
In all, Twilight Prophecy by is an enjoyable read.
James and Brigit have always known they were special being the only two of their kind, born vampires with only a quarter of humanity in them. However, when a prophecy comes to light pointing at them being the salvation of their people, they realize this is what their true purpose was. However, they will need help, specifically in the form of a mortal named Lucy. James has to go against everything he believes in when he forces her to help them against their will. It doesn't take her long to realize that she actually cares about whether they live or die, and that she is falling for him. She's the only one who can balance him, but will that knowledge come too late?
James and Lucy, at first glance would seem to be very unlikely couple as they come from such different worlds. He's a very unique vampire, in that he is also human, and that he has a very special set of gifts. He has spent his life trying to deny his heritage and almost views his vampiric side as monstrous. Lucy on the other hand is a brilliant yet recluse archeologist who has only been living half a live due to a horrendous past. As time goes on and the two interact more, you realize that they really are not that different at all. They both have been running from themselves, and it seems they are the perfect match to get the other to open up and see themselves more clearly. The progression was very realistic between them, and I am glad that things were not rushed, as falling right into bed would never have fit either of their characters.
I really enjoyed the world behind this book, and the uniqueness of the three quarter vampire twins. I've read plenty of books with full and half vampires, but nothing like James and Lucy's heritage. Considering the impossibility of their birth due to a vampire's sterility, it is no wonder they are destined to be both the savior and the destroyer of their kind. I especially liked how the twins were almost a ying yang aspect with balancing the other. However, there was one difference as there wasn't a clear cut line between who was the savior and the destroyer. Of course appearances would point a certain way, but those can be deceiving, making for a very interesting combination.
While this book is part of a long ongoing series, I had no trouble picking it up and understanding the world and all of the character's roles. It works very well as a stand alone novel, and tied things up well for the hero and heroine at the end. However, it did leave an almost cliffhanger aspect involving the overall plot that I am sure will be continued in the next book. The cliffhanger wasn't enough to frustrate me with the wait, it was more along the lines of an enticement to want to pick up the next one. I actually like this as I sometimes need a little nudge to pick up the next book in series where the main focus of hero/heroine switches, as I am always attacked to the previous ones. All in all it was a very good read with a realistic romance that will leave you wanting more in the end.
Twilight Prophecy book 17 From the Wings in the Night Series By Maggie Shayne Publishing date: 4/26/2011
5 out of 5!!
I LOVED this book. It’s everything. Drama. Romance. Action. Mystery. It really made you want to keep turning the page.
James and Brigit Poe are twins, one quarter human and three quarters vampire. They are the complete opposite in every way. While James is a healer, Brigit is a destroyer. James has been trying to live a good life by going around healing people and not let his vampire nature take over. He has even turned his back on his family years ago.
Then one day Brigit shows up back in his life, telling him that their race is in trouble, and it is up to them to save their whole race. They must find Professor Lucy Lanfair and find out what she knows about the prophecy that she has uncovered on some tablets from the Sumerian area.
Lucy was excited to be asked to appear on a well respected TV show to talk about her translation off of a Sumerian tablet that she believes to be over 5 thousand years old. Lester Folsom is going on before her to talk about his book ‘The Truth’ that recently got pulled from production because it revealed too many CIA secrets. Lester insists to Lucy that her translation and what he knows about vampires are connected. Before he leaves the green room he hands his only copy of the book to Lucy along with a funny looking necklace.
Lucy doesn’t know what to make of the guy, or if he is even sane. Vampires? Right. But then she watches as Mr. Folsom along with the host of the show get gunned down on screen. From that moment on her life turns upside down.
Lucy gets sucked into a world that she thought did not exist. Vampires needing her help to translate the last tablet and find out where Utanopishtim is, so it will save their race from extinction.
James thinks he knows his destiny. To save his race. But he needs the help from Lucy, no matter if she wants to help or not.
With the anti vampire groups called the Vigilante going out and torching every house during the day that they think a vampire lives in; it is not safe to stay any where. With the Department of Paranormal Investigation on the hunt for all vampires and for Lucy, it feels like they will never be able to get to Utanopishtim. They have to move quickly before the entire vampire race gets wiped out.
I gave it five out of five stars. This book series is fast paced, easy to follow, action packed, and enough romance tension to make you want to squeal. This book will not disappoint the paranormal or romance book lover. It has enough romance to interest you, but tons of twist and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time.
I’m going to have to go back and read all of her Wings in the Night Series!!
