Как се стигна дотук? Светът като че ли вървеше добре. Изглеждаше, че политическата свобода и индивидуалната инициатива могат да намерят почва и в най-затънтените кътчета. Бедността започваше да намалява в Азия и Латинска Америка. Икономическият растеж на планетата бе най-бързият в историята; всичко предвещаваше, че той ще продължи десетилетия благодарение на много силния демографски прираст, на наличието на големи спестявания и на невероятни технически постижения, позволяващи да бъде насочен към по-устойчиво развитие.
И ето че без предизвестие сме на прага на световна депресия - най-тежката от осемдесет години.
Междувременно видимо нищо особено не се бе случило, ако не се смята неспособността на някои американски семейства да изплащат кредита за жилището си.
Задачата на книгата е да обясни тази мистерия възможно най-просто, да предвиди накъде ни води тя, така че втори път да не правим същата грешка.
Може би има надежда за свят на изобилие, в който пазарите ще са само един от ефикасните му компоненти, а не както днес абсолютни господари.
Свят, където единствените кризи ще са кризите в личния живот с неговите мъки и радости, с вдъхващата спокойствие рутина и невероятните му изненади.

About the author

Jacques Attali is a French economist and scholar. From 1981 to 1991, he was an advisor to President François Mitterrand. He subsequently cast doubt on Mitterrand's past as a mid-level Vichy government functionary in his retrospective of Mitterrand's career, C'était François Mitterrand, published in 2005.

In April 1991 he became the first President of the London-based European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the financial institution established by western governments to assist the countries of eastern and central Europe and the former Soviet Union in their transition to democratic market economies. He worked at the bank until 1993.

In 1998 Attali founded the French non-profit organization PlaNet Finance which focuses on microfinance.

Attali is perhaps best known in America as the author of Noise: The Political Economy of Music.

Une analyse dévastatrice et un fourmillement d'idées rendent ce livre interessant pour tous ceux qui veulent mieux comprendre la crise dans laquelle nous sommes plongés. LA critique d'un systéme qui a volontairement appauvri les classes moyennes et demande aujourd'hui aux états de payer a posteriori les bonus des initiés, la mise en avant de solutions commencant par une gouvernance mondiale fixée au niveau du G20...et le retour des banquiers à un métier modeste et ennuyeux étroitement controlé par la puissance publique sont des axes de reflexion qui devraient s imposer à nos dirigeants. Mais si les conclusions dérapent sans raison sur des elucubrations climatiques, on regrette comme souvent chez Attali l'absence de vraies propositions...

Ce livre est un bijou. Comprendre le fonctionnement du monde, s'ouvrir à des réflexions larges, permet en tant qu'humain de repenser nos actes et le sens de nos actions individuelles. Merci Jacques Attali pour ce temps de réflexion, pensé comme un cours d'histoire et d'économie, avec une dose de philosophie.

Comme souvent avec les livres de cet auteur le contenu est très instructif.
Il est question ici des mécanismes économique menant à la crise que nous connaissons.
En dehors de toute polémique stérile c'est une extraordinaire source de réflexion.
